Over the last several weeks I've spent my time studying the people of Baldur's Gate. Becoming one of them. Learning their customs... and their defenses. Their army is made up of a mercenary company called The Fist. They are not to be underestimated. For mercenaries they are quite well trained and have applied their ruthless efficiency to upholding the laws set forth by the Dukes and Duchesses holed up in their palace. From what I have gathered they are somewhere near 2,000 strong. Seeing as they are indeed mercenaries, I'm certain some of the brutes can be swayed by coin. It is not yet time to test their loyalties, but soon.

Shortly after arriving in the city I came to know a young elf by the name of Mariona Ky'ir. How fortuitous it was that she was the play thing of the paladin Jonas Rokranon, one of the Weavemaster guardians! Jonas' trust of her character judgement granted me the opportunity to join them for a tour of the Istari tower. I got a brief peak at their library... It's no Candlekeep, but I'm certain they have secrets hidden inside that could prove useful. I must gain access to that room again. There are two iron golems guarding the entrance to their building, so a frontal assault would be suicidal. I shall have to use my cunning to accomplish this task.

Many days have passed since that initial meeting. Since then I've assisted the now knighted paladin, Sir Jonas, and Saint Merielle Williams in a siege against some Bhaalists assembled south of the Gate. While there was not a lot of time allowed to speak with these two celebrities, I believe my presence there was a display of dedication to the safety of the city if nothing else. Hopefully it will grant me a bit of credibility with the authorities.

Also of note: I recently encountered one Rysdan Syth while on an excursion near Beregost last week. Rumor has it that he assassinated some Balduran nobles recently and a rather hefty bounty was placed on his head not long ago. I offered my expertise in the Art should he have need to call on me. It is time to begin allying myself with like-minded people and those in positions of power. I’ve also made connections with a local tribe of Orcs, though Shar only knows how reliable they will be. Perhaps the time will come to call upon their strength in the coming months...
