BGTSCC Interactive Map

Unread post by blazerules »

So I have made my previous project of the BGTSCC region map into its own application.

Download link (Warning jank for now)
Updated to version 2 I guess!

All in all its just the map as an application, with places on the map that you can click and it should pull up information on said area if the information is available. All this is stored in data.json that is super easy to edit thus keep up to date.

In addition there is a ruler tool if you hit r, providing an approximate distance in kilometers and miles, plus the a time estimate if you walked that distance without ever sleeping at a constant pace. It's not great, but it should give a vague estimate. One could be slower or faster than that.

Id like whatever feedback anyone has, and it hopefully works on other peoples computers. One thing thats really missing is any good BGTSCC specific data on areas etc. I had used something we had on the forums but its really non ideal if I'm honest. So theres a lot of placeholder stuff and whatnot. If theres any place for data that someone can recommend thats reliable and worth it for BGTSCC Im happy to edit the data file. Honestly, the data file is super easy to edit, I made sure of that.

Now there's certainly a few things I want to get done to ensure maximum longevity of this. But generally the most basic version of this is done. As jank as it is in places.
1) Get the images for the location displays fetched from the same folder as the exe is in to ensure you can just plop in your own.
2) Have the same for the world map.
3) Get font size of the ruler to be tied to zoom level for eyes sakes. (Done)
4) Change startup resoluion (Done)
5) Maybe see if I can scale the infobox. (Kinda done?)

To do:
Character tab: Haven't a notable character tab for locations seems like it'd be quite useful! Though we lack a lot of information on that.
Notable places tab:

Tweaks updated:
Made the infobox scale to the side of the window regardless of window size. Should be nicer!
Scaling font size for ruler.

This is amazing! So far no full feedback until I use it more, but nice job!

Yeah it's quite jank right now so if there are any suggestions recommended I'll sort that out when there's time between everything I do! I've ironed out a few quirks with version 2 at least.

Also if you get a vulkan error that can just be clicked away. OpenGL is being depreciated for Vulkan and Godot is moving away from it because of that.
