Diary of a Demon

Day 63
Journal Entry 23

I have been thinking much of the knife edge balance of Baldur's Gate. On one side, the defenders of the people, the righteous arms of Baldur's Gate. They prance and preen like gods with a self imposed sense of justice and righteousness. More often than not they are just as bad or worse than the very thing they strive not to emulate. I have seen many things done by these so called "Crusaders of Good" that make my heart, a demon heart, shiver.
On the other side, the worshipers of darker powers and the users of the weak. I admit on several occasions I have myself allied or worked with such creatures and have been appalled at what I witnessed. But at least they have the courage to admit what they are; evil, depraved individuals with no conscience whatsoever.
I have to pick a side, but am unsure which to take. I would rather have good neighbors than evil ones, but the side that claims itself the 'good' is only a mask in which to justify their actions. They have claimed that I am evil, and accused me of summoning demons (which I have, but not for selfish deeds and certainly not when they claimed I did).
I have fought against the Banites in the crusades, betrayed them at the peak of it. I have purged the Bhaalists on more than one occasion and was even there to help save Beregost from the goblin war horde that threatened it. I brought back the soul of a dwarf's sibling who was in the clutches of a devil and closed more than one portal that lead to darker places. All this and not a thanks, only condemnation and prejudice. Then again, the deeds I did for the Banites and the Bhaalists were equally met with ingratitude and spite.
My heart is as torn as Baldur's Gate. I only hope that Graz'zt, Warden of Adimarchus can guide me to a decision. Whilst the goals of the Sisters of Darkness are not for or against anyone one indivual, group or indeed the whole of Baldur's Gate, the populace does not agree. No evidence has been put forth that I am what they say I am, but it seems the prejudicial slaughter of my kinsmen and the constant hrassment for no reason is continued each day. They drive me to desperate measures and soon, someone's ego will be extremely bruised for doing so and it won't be mine. Until then I shall trust the Dark prince of Azzagrat in his wisdom and guidance.
"Foolish meat puppet! We existed long before your vain Baldur's Gate and we shall remain long after it is naught but cinder and ash." - Mephitiri, High Priestess of Graz'zt to Flaming Fist
