Retrospect
Ni's mother was in an awfully gleeful mood that evening when her steps echoed down one of the manor's hallways. She met Ni at one of the courtyard facing windowed alcoves where the girl was reading one or other book.

- "Oh, there you are", Ni's mom chimed.
- "Huh? Oh, hi mom. You look cheery...", Ni replied, quirking a glance at her mother.
- "But for a reason! You are getting married!", her mom quipped with almost sing-song tone.
- "Buh-what?!", Ni coughed and almost dropped the book from her hands.
- "Yes! In but a few days!", her mom answered.
- "What do you mean with 'getting married'?", Ni queried surprised.
- "Yes, love. It is true, and we need to prepare...", her mom chirped.
- "Mom! But I've never...", Ni tried.
- "...swiftly, check on the dress I've...", her mom continued without interruption.
- "MOM!", Ni yelled.
- "...prepared for you quite a while...", her mom continued without even listening her daughter.

Ni wasn't anymore listening at that point either as she was storming down the hallway with a frustrated tear in her eye, leaving her mom explain to thin air and the window.

Retrospect
Ni didn't really think it through when she dashed in a long skirt and ballroom shoes to the stables and to the stable master's great surprise leaped onto back of the very horse he was tending to.

- "Off!", Ni shout to the horse which, equinely surprised, bolted into gallop.

Holding to the horse's neck for the dear life of her, Ni couldn't do a thing other than to let it pick the direction to go. Eventually the poor beast slowed down to trot, a mile or two afar from the manor.

- "It has to be that lordling she's been faffing about...", Ni pondered half aloud, "...or maybe that - nah, couldn't be... Of course there is that one... And that, but..."
- *neigh*, was the horse's reply to that litany of racing thoughts.
- "You think so?", Ni queried.
- *hrf*, shook the horse's head.

Eventually the rider and her horse arrived to Mirabar itself, heading to the docks there when Ni noticed a rather peculiar sight - a ship with bright tangerine sails that were set unlike those of any other ship and which made it look like a giant butterfly.

Out of sheer curiosity Ni went to study the marvel closer, and as no one seemed to be aboard at all, she explored a while. To her chagrin though, the ship's crew boarded and almost instantly the ship left the docks - while Ni was snooping around somewhere in the ship's depths.

Retrospect
Ni thought that the ship sailed unnaturally smoothly as it didn't rock with the waves nor bow with the wind, nor was there much any other sound at all than the chatter of the crew, which all was in a language she had never heard before. She thought it was better to stay hidden, very well hidden - and thankfully the bow of the ship was filled to the brim with cargo cases and boxes which held anything and everything from enough arms and armor to equip an army down to simple things like dried fruit.

One or the other crew member however caught her eventually while she was looking for snacks and dragged the kicking and screaming girl onto the deck and straight to the captain's cabin. Unlike any other captain she had seen while visiting the city and the docks with her father, the tall and rail thin figure that greeted Ni with a surprised smirk on their face was anything but captainy or an imposing figure.

- "Lookit what the hellcat dragged in", the figure (whose species was as indeterminate as their gender, for Ni at least) chuckled.
- "Ack! Unhand me, you brute!", Ni complained aloud to the carrying crewman that held her with an iron grip.
- "Oh, let the poor girl go", the figure stated and whisked their wrist.
- "<untranslatable>", the crewman stated and dropped Ni on her feet before sauntering off.
- "How unfortunate, how unfortunate. You picked the wrong ship, little princess - it's a long journey ahead and I will not turn around to return, not even for a pretty princess like you...", the figure spoke in monotone without a moment's pause, "...and, ergo, you shall be my guest until we arrive to Baldur's Gate. I shall leave you there to do whatever. Good deal, mh? I have no habit to throw people over board after all.

There was no point in complaining or arguing, the figure (who never introduced themselves) was adamant in their decision, and therefore Ni spent the rest of (her part) of the journey as a guest in the cabin.

Eventually the ship arrived to Baldur's Gate, onto which docks Ni was escorted and left gawking.

Retrospect, 5 Ches 1361
To no one's surprise, Ni wasn't exactly thrilled - the city docks were a chaotic mess, to say the least, and although Ni had been to a city before, of course, Baldur's Gate was something quite unlike Mirabar. Both visually and the people she saw, the differences were glaring - a whole lot less of dwarves, too. It was also a whole lot more confusing with its winding streets and narrow alleys, and soon enough she was utterly lost (not that she knew where she was to begin with anyway).

While snooping and gawking around the city, dodging a few beggars and some less savory figures, Ni did meet a number of rather colorful figures too, with which a few she actually shared some words.

Also, that day she met a certain "Yuri" ...

Getting to know the city... easier said than done when it is a "tangled mess" and more than often Ni found herself utterly lost while, rather aimlessly, sightseeing.

Eventually she found herself, for somewhat a culture shock due stark contrast to the city itself, outside the city walls - arriving to something what could be described as a mixture of farms and sprawling suburbs, a city-adjacent village of sorts. Not that her exploration treks ended there, no.

Yuri became somewhat an anchor, a guide and a guardian for Ni. While following him around, or the other way 'round, Ni got to see a whole lot of places - from hamlets and villages down into ruins and mines. She enjoyed his presence, especially when he led her to vistas that evoked the artist spirit in her, sparking ideas about what to paint on canvas.

Wandering around, seeing places, it was so very vastly different life than her earlier, manor-centric and very sheltered existence. It was something wild and carefree.

Bandits, "they never learn…", 6-18 Ches 1361
Not once or twice, but at least six times have various bands of bandits tried to ambush Ni. Seems they're not after her coin, no, but the very girl herself instead. Whatever nefarious plans they have is a mystery as, to chagring of the bandits, Ni, wherever she goes, is almost always accompanied by a very capable armed escort.

Were they chasing her because of her parents, for ransom or other reasons? Or to catch and sell her off somewhere? Among a few other potential reasons, such seemed the most likely ones. But what was the truth?

Festival, Doron Amar, 14 Ches 1361
Choosing an outfit for the spring festival at Doron Aman took a while. "Undecisive" seemed to be the very keyword for both Ni and Yuri while they tried on a bit of this and that at Aellon's shop. Eventually Ni managed to make her mind and chose a very much traditions breaking outfit which unerring followed each and every curve of her shape.

A whole lot of new faces to see at that spring festival was, and to dance with some to the music and songs present.

At some point during the party the prepared performers had gone through their repertoire and with some mental support from Yuri did Ni decide to take the stage for herself then. The stage fever lasted but a moment before her crystal clear, heart touching voice echoed across the party grounds.

People seemed to like of her performance and she gave another a bit later for all to hear. Her performance was heard by certain Aiden Vega also, who introduced Ni a bit later to Lord Osric.

One thing led to another - from singing to being contracted by House Vale to produce artwork. Ni was about to burst in excitement and joy when she told about it later to Yuri.

Sightseeing, 21 Ches 1361
Merrily humming Ni walked through the forest by side of her Yuri who led her to yet another vista to see - this time a high spot with rather colorful woods below. The two stopped next to a waterfall's mouth which waters splashed somewhere far below with a roar. Yet another inspiration for a painting that spot was.

- "A view like this would be great - for our house", Ni quipped and poked Yuri's armor, smiling.
- "Would be a bit loud, don't you think? Our home… You're already looking forward to it, hmm?", he replied with soft gaze falling on Ni.
- "Am! Mmm, the sound is loud, true — but the vista itself", she nodded with a widening smile on her lips.
- "Perhaps you should start looking around for any spots you really like then? I'm sure you'll have a list in no time", Yuri chuckled and tucked some of Ni's hair behind her ear.
- "Okie, I will!", Ni stated merrily and quirked a happy smile at him.
- "Our home? Love you", Yuri whispered barely audibly over the waterfall's roar and poked Ni's belly playfully.
- "Yes, our! Love you too", Ni replied softly snickering, twitching lightly to the poke.

After a while more of admiring the vista, the two decided to explore a ruin underground below.

And what a strange ruins they were - ancient, dusty, and a giant chasm underneath having cracked floors open here and there with no sign about bottom to be seen (if there even was such). As strange as the ruins themselves were, and likely evil to the boot in the past, another mystery was the body of a Gith that the two found in midst of rubble - how'd it end up there? From where? It didn't seem very old either, almost fresh.

Bandits, "they really never learn…", 21 Ches 1361
While the two headed homeward from the ruins, yet another band of bandits stormed after Ni - for their own chagrin, however, due Yuri getting rid of the ragtag band rather swift. Eight times so far... How many more times they'll try?

Painting inspiration from underground? That wasn't among the things Ni would've thought about on her own, but as a duo of engineers kept describing their own trek and the strange vistas, a desire to see such first hand sparked in her mind.

The least hazardous, for Ni at least, route to Blue Lantern Keep was via Kraak Helzak. The trek was anything but peaceful, of course, and yet relatively easy thanks to Yuri who guided her and Fodoric toward the Keep.

Earlier verbal description hadn't done any favors to the strange vista the in darkness glowing gigantic mushrooms created...

Fishing, 26 Ches 1361
Ni kissed Yuri on his forehead, leaving him sleeping and grabbed along a small canvas and her oil paints. She headed outdoors into the brisk spring morning which seemed to be just perfect for a walk through the forest. And a rather peaceful walk it was, wading with light steps among the flowering bushes and trees, past Doron Amar to the river near Friendly Arms Inn.

Ni had intended to paint the scene which opened at the opposite side of the pond, but her plan changed somewhat upon noticing and old fisherman casting their line into the waters with a dog by his side. Friendly greetings were shared and some words, after which the old fisher, Rami, invited Ni to try catch something with his other rod. She had never truly fished before - just watched her father to fish while she was either reading a book or drawing.

Fishing turned out to be rather easy, relaxing even, and it didn't take long for Ni to catch her very first fish from those waters, which she presented to the old fisher with a bright smile on her face. As time passed, she caught a number of different sorts while chit-chatting this and that with Rami until the old man decided to head to sell his catch at Greenest.
