Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition

Unread post by Goat »

Now that EE is alive. Let me give a quick update here.

The server and client they have given are both 64 bit. There is a high chance we need the client extender still as not everything will be patched - some things were, some things aren't. The glaring issue on this is not knowing what bugs got fixed with the CE. I am hoping for Skywing to reply to me soon about this so hopefully we can get some more information and get the fixes directly into the EXE or a 64bit CE. The server for us to move onto it requires NWNX4 to be working on 64bit. Which means we need to recode a portion of the server as well, otherwise we won't have things like a database/etc. This is our main focus right now - but we cannot start this until a working server EXE comes and the symbols to it. There is no way around this.

I still do not know if the new client is compatible with the old server - which would be nice on us and give us time - we'd just need to get out server listed on the new multiplayer listing on steam, which we are working on. Why don't we know? Because you cannot connect to any server currently that isn't a game that was launched in the client directly. What happens if you can download all the files, but you cannot progress any further. So to clarify - You won't be able to join MP bar MP games started IN the client. There is a high chance that you WILL be able to login to the old server with the new client UNTIL we go to 64BIT, so this gives people time to at least get EE. But we WILL be moving once we have everything sorted.

Aspyr has told us however that they will make sure the PW and multiple gets taken care of and gets good treatment. Obviously their main goal was to get the SP out first, they didn't not expect the MP issue before launch, and needed more time, but we hit the due date. We are current awaiting a patch to fix this so we can test to see if people can login the old server with the new client.

The 64bit server however will be a boon for us, we will be able to merge the servers into one again when it comes out. And they will be working on client crashes/etc as they come. The toolset hasn't been touched yet, but most likely will be in a similar fashion to how NWN1 EE was, afer a few months.

I will keep everyone updated as we get more updates.

---

Notes
-YOU CAN CONNECT TO GAME.BGTSCC.NET AND IT DOWNLOADS THE FILES BUT YOU CANNOT GO FURTHER ATM.
-There 'is' a 64bit nwserver.exe, but it's not INCLUDED yet. The current included is the old 32bit server. You cannot connect to any NWServer.exe run game yet until a patch comes.
-I suggest keeping a new install folder by right clicking the game on steam, click properties, then in the launch options add:

Code: Select all

-home "Neverwinter Nights 2 EE"
So it doesn't override your current files.

Hello guys, just another update to state.
  • BGTSCC will be transitioning from OG to EE in future.
  • There is no present timeline for when yet.
  • It requires a transition period, dependent on the addition of 64bit servers and multiplayer function.
  • It was never expected to be possible on day one, as there is back end stuff required to happen first.
  • We are hoping that we can make the new client operate with the old server once Aspyr makes some changes - but we cannot promise anything.
  • There will be announcements made in advance.
  • For now, you can continue as usual and play with the original client.
We understand that this might be disappointing news for some of you, but please know we are committed to BGTSCC and will be doing our best to move forward as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Re: Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition - Steam Mod

We have made a direct connect mod on steam: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... 3527321236

It will allow you to bypass the server listing (which lacks features right now) and gives you two options directly for logging in. Obviously you can only download the files right now - we are still waiting for a patch to be able to fix connectivity issues.

NWN2:EE – First Patch Instructions
You can now join the server using Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition! I still recommend keeping to the original client until the bugs are sorted, but this is how you can connect using your original CD key and account. Please note - ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR FILES, DO NOT OVERWRITE!

1. Launch EE Once
  • Start NWN2:EE so it generates its files.
  • Connect to the server once (you can exit before the full download finishes).

2. Find Your Original CD Key
  • Go to your original NWN2 nwncdkey.ini location. For GoG and DVD nwncdkey.ini is in game installation folder, but for Steam it's in My Documents by default.
  • Copy the file: nwncdkey.ini.
⚠️ Note: Always backup the files just in case!

3. Locate the EE Downloads/Documents Folder
  • This is where EE stores hak files and configs.
  • If you used -home, to change your EE documents folder - it will be here!
  • If not, the default Documents/NWN2:EE directory will be the same as your current NWN2 OG directory (In My Documents) if you have not specified an -home directory.

4. Replace the CD Key File
  • In the EE Documents folder, rename the existing nwncdkey.ini (keep as backup).
  • Paste in the one you copied from the original install.
⚠️ Note: Make sure you don't mix up the documents cdkey file with the og install one if you haven't changed your -home directory.

5. Update Your Account Name
  • Open nwn2player.ini (same folder as the above cdkey ini).
  • Find Player Name.
  • Change it to your original account name.
  • Save the file.

Done!
You can now launch NWN2:EE and log in with your original CD key and account name.

If you run into problems:
  • Double-check that you copied the CD key from the install folder, not Documents.
  • Make sure you pasted it into the NWN2:EE Documents directory.
  • If you’re stuck, ask on Discord.
