Spirit Codex Vol. I
Thistle, the Raccoon Trickster
Aspects: Trickery, Playfulness, Prankster
Nature/Personality: Mischievous spirit; playful, protective.
Thistle was my first friend. His chittering laughter was the first thing I heard before I saw him dancing through the wind. He steals offerings, hides tools, and whispers secrets in the night. Yet when sorrow comes to me, he is never far.
"Do not lie or hide your feelings from me. Smile and play, let not sorrow shake your spirit."
Offering: Honeyed nuts, silver beads, or laughter freely given.
Warning: Never lie in Thistle’s presence. He will twist the truth into thorns.
Alo, the Orglash of the Frozen Cave
Aspect: Cold, endurance, solitude.
Nature/Personality: Elemental spirit of winter and sorrow.
In the mountains, I nearly perished lost in a blizzard as ice clung to my hair. From the frost came Alo.
His stillness called to me. To earn his mercy, I offered the warmth of my spirit. Since then, when I call his name, he answers.
"Frost is unforgiving; in time, everything and everyone will go cold."
Offering: Crushed quartz, clear water left to freeze by moonlight.
Warning: Should his name be spoken in anger, his frost will not distinguish friend from foe.
Tahlvan, The Root Father
Aspects: Wisdom of the ancients, Growth, Renewal
Nature/Personality: Wise elder beyond mortal years, Slow to anger, Slow to forget.
His voice is deep, like roots breaking stones. He teaches patience, that all things grow at their own pace, and even the smallest seed can break a mountain’s heart. Beneath the gnarled roots of an ancient oak sits Tahlvan the Root Father. Covered in moss from ages past, his wisdom is so vast.
"In time, all will become food for the roots to grow. There is no stone, natural or man-made, that withstands nature's toll."
Offering: A seed of a tree, wrapped in a moist cloth, tied with a braid of hair. Pinecones/Acorns/ETC
Warning: Take only what is needed from his forest, harm no saplings. His wrath is slow, but everlasting.
The Hearth-Mothers (Collective Spirit)
Aspect: Protection, healing, Warmth.
Nature: Guardian spirits of homes, inns, and taverns.
Manifestation: Flickering warmth in hearth flames.
When I sleep far from home, I sometimes feel their warmth upon my cheek. They are countless and nameless. In every flame that welcomes a traveler, the Hearth-Mothers linger. Her warmth brings peace and rest to the weary of heart.
"Sing, drink, eat your fill. Live with laughter in your heart and give thanks for the blessings of the Hearth."
Offering: Milk, salt, bread, and whispered thanks.
Warning: They despise neglect. Let the hearth grow cold, and they grow bitter.
The Fireling Host(Collective Spirit)
Aspect: Inspiration, transformation, creation
Nature: Lesser spirits of living flame, fragments of elemental chaos.
Manifestation: Small sparks that dance in ritual flame or forge fire.
They gather those who work their crafts, where songs are sung or stories are told with passion. They love storytellers, musicians, and fools. I once watched them dance in a smith’s forge, shaping sparks into faces. They dance in flames like stars in the skies.
"The sparks dance with life, the fires burn with the passion of one's heart. The stronger one's craft, the more the Host will grow."
Offering: Oil burned where one works their craft, or songs are sung.
Warning: Firelings feed on emotion; sorrow will cause them to flee.
