Mudd's Auction

Unread post by Thaelis »

Farmboy2003 recently talked me into doing a run with no use of Mudd's auction house, and I've gotta say it's actually much more fun than leveling usually is :D

You can normally get a +4 sword by level 3, and enchanted armor, boots, necklace etc not long after. It really takes away some of the fun of early leveling, as you're extremely overpowered for your level. And you level so fast you don't even have time to meet others.

I think zavox posted a while back saying they don't like Mudd's because it detracts from RP. I'm not sure about that... but I think it could definitely use a few tweaks. Even just a basic minimum sell price (as % of the item's value) would be great, so no selling +4 sword for under 15 or 20K.

Just my two coppers!

When I drop a large amount of gear on low-level characters, I make it clear that it will significantly change the leveling experience. Whether they accept it or not is entirely their choice.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind if new characters started at level 30. Leveling has never been the enjoyable part of the game for me - though that may come from being able to spend hours roleplaying over something as minor as a slightly different shade of stone on the road, which isn’t something everyone enjoys.

I don’t see a need to “fix” this with artificial tweaks. If not through mudd auction house, then any character who doesn’t openly worship an evil deity can come to my paladin and be armed to the teeth. It should remain a matter of player choice.

If i can help it, I will never, ever play a low level character ever again. So waht happens with tiem restrictions will not affect me. I guess the same can be said for those who choose to play low level characters. They can choose not to pick up better items if the want to enjoy that experience

For the first time in a long time, yesterday I ground out 10,000xp in 3 hours. Luckily for me, there was 20 minutes in there where some actual role-play between a passerby happened.

Level 10 check!! lol.

Well, seems like everyone is here for the level 30 RP ><

That's fair enough, everyone has their own things they enjoy. I just dislike the immersion-breakiness of the Auction, since the prices are driven by largely OOC factors and the epic-level gear is 50x cheaper than the NPC stores :D

But, like you say....I can simply ignore the auction and use random drop items to get slightly closer to the real DnD experience. Albeit with a lot more junk items ><
