Set Trap and Search

Unread post by BullDogg27 »

So heres my question, What Determines the Difficulty to spot a Trap that a PC Sets, Is it the higher the skill in set trap that makes it more difficult to spot or is there other factors to it

I think it's hard coded in the one of the TRAP 2DA files.

I think also maybe nwn2 wiki has a list of the DC's.

Some web site has it posted.

it should be the default DC of whatever trap that you are using PLUS the set trap skill of the user

found that one out from one of my epic assassin buddies, epic assassins love using traps  havent really talked to one that doesnt do it

That link is on the NWN1 wiki... are those formulas carried over into NWN2? I assume since you said you tested it that is the case.

so the difficulty to see a trap that has been set, is determined by the
Traps DC + Set trap Skill +d20. VS there Search Skill +d20..

just to put things into perspective

lets say

Deadly Tanlgle trap DC35 + 20 Set Trap +d20 roll = potential 75 VS 20 Search Skill +d20 roll = potential 40.

Maybe i am not reading this right but this doesnt make sense to me,

Or is it, Traps DC + Skill VS Search Skill +d20 roll to spot a trap
Noric NorthWind, The lost Mage
Khulger Shieldbreaker, Brother of of Thulger Shield Breaker
Wyn Silverleaf, Ranger, Rogue, you never know

Is this reserved for staff member replies? Well, anyway. No d20 is made for the setter's DC. Therefore, the check is:

Trap DC + Set Trap Skill vs. Search Skill + d20

Otherwise, there are skewed ratios. Ideally the check is fair between the setter and the spotter.

Tangle, Deadly
Set DC: 30
Detect DC 18 + skill
Disarm DC 31 + skill

(from the table on that link)

so for spotting assuming you have 20 ranks like you said in set trap and search it would be

20 search + d20 = max 40 vs. 18 + 20 set + d20 = max 58 (impossible to see)

then the disarm (again with 20 ranks)

20 disarm + d20 = max 40 vs. 31 + 20 set + d20 = 71 DC (impossible)

when i tested it in game i used average sonic traps (base 22 disable) and my hin has a 14 set and rolled a 19 to lay the trap, then a had a buddy try to disarm it and tell me what the DC was and it was 55 (22+14+19)

so yes in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing traps can be really dangerous

hope that helps :D

Depends on the topic, but generally most useful replies will find their way through. Especially if the question is about a formula like this.

If it falls more along the lines of a ruling a DM needs to make, then leave that to the staff.
