DM Paranoid's events

Unread post by Ri762 »

Well, back in buisness so to say. Here you'll find information on events and NPCs i use. Furthermore some code of conduct on how to behave in my little plots. Basically it's nothing new and i always recommend to take a look at the event-etiquette which has been posted in the DungeonMasterRealm by very experienced DMs, ages ago. The outcome of my events is never predicted. YOU, the players write the story, not me. Or in other words, anything goes.
~Houserules~
- NO OOC! NEVAR EVAR! - This ruins immersion for a lot of players. I and most players are not interested in reading things like "oh hey guys, the pizza delivery is here". Keep such things to tells if there's really need to inform others about it. A short BRB marked as OOC-text is fine though.

- NO RESTING UNTIL I SAY SO! - You can ask (via tell) if it's ok to rest and i will answer with yes or no or something totally different.

- NO GODMODDING! - If you intend to emote a certain action write it as if you are trying to do so, i will then ask for an appropriate roll and tell you about the outcome.

- DON'T THROW THE DICE AROUND LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW! - Don't just roll skillchecks without me asking you to do so. I will ignore them! I suggest you write a short tell like "can i do this and that" and i will deffo answer. At some point it's just confusing when you have to follow all that text and rolls, not knowing what it was for...etc.

- DO NOT RUN! - unless there's a roleplayreason to do so. I need some time to prepare things in a dynamic event. For instance when i unleash 20 dragons at the same time on a group of helpless people you can of course run away, noone will think bad of you ;)

- PnP SPELLS - Under certain circumstances i will allow them in my events, though you have to be prepared to pay in some way for them. Also keep in mind that those spells are not to be used outside of my events without consent by the involved players. And even in my events i may ask other participants if they are ok with it. This is still NWN2 and not PnP.

- LEAVE OTHERS ROOM TO BREATHE - I don't like one-man-shows and people who desperately try to be the star in an event. Everyone should get the chance to bring him/herself and their character into the event.

- DON'T GO THROUGH TRANSITIONS WITHOUT ASKING ME IF IT'S ALRIGHT TO DO SO - I only can be at one place at a time so i want to be at least informed before a character intends to leave the area

- BE A SPORT! - Sometimes things may not go the way you expected them to go, which may result in a more negative outcome for your character. This is part of the game as it is part of your real life. One cannot always win. If something not so good happens to your character deal with it in an IC-way. OOC-complains are a no-go. Constructive criticism is welcome though.

- HAVE FUN & BE POLITE! - I invest my leisure-time in DMing and am also interested in having a good time. This works best when you do the same.

I may add more in the future but basically that's about it.
~NPCs~
~The Contractor~
Everyone and everything has a price. This always heavily guarded and quite shady figure will find it. Any obstacle will be moved out of the way by this person, witnesses are considered ballast as well as moral and compassion.
~Strickland~
Blond hair. Black robe. Trained in arcane arts. Moody and always short on words.
~Shurgal~
An Imp bound to serve his cruel master as a slave, servant and punching ball. Shurgals origin is unknown and so are the intentions of the individual who controls him, yet he seems to appear preferably near arcane devices which are scattered throughout in deep caverns, dungeons and ruins.
~a vile looking bunny withe red glowing eyes and sharp incisors~
It's evil and it knows where you live.
~Yelene'a~
A blind wanderer.

"Strictly business" Pt. 1

A pair of adventurers ventured down into the depths of Durlags Tower with the intent to reactivate a mysterious portal. Obviously the levers located in a room close to the portal seemed to have something to do with getting the arcane device to work. The adventurers seemed clueless until an Imp suddenly went through the portal. Suprised by the wingless creatures the Imp quickly flew back through the portal. Either by stupidity or fear, the little extra-planar dropped a stoneplate. The adventurers immideatley started examine the item, eventually discovering that this plate was holding 9 different combinations of various symbols. Each of the symbols was also etched into the levers in the room next to the portal. It was then that another adventuress stumbled upon the two, still rather clueless persons. Together they were able to identify at least three of the symbols. Still eager to open a passage, most likely to the underdark, the group wasted no time to pull the levers in the "right" order, only to realize that they opened indeed a way...but not to the caverns below the surface but to a place much more dangerous. The inhabitants of that location used this moment to swarm through the open portal. Within seconds the group was surrounded by a pack of creatures of unknown origin - eager to kill the surfacers they were, that's for sure. More and more of them swarmed through the portal until one member of the group pulled another lever, eventually stopping the deadly rush. The adventurers held their breath as out of a sudden the Imp reappeared. The winged creature seemed paniced and terrified, desperately looking for the stoneplate he dropped earlier. Within seconds the group managed to catch the flying annoyance, only to face curses and quite an amount of spit. Even a death-threat didn't help to calm the Imp, who named himself Shurgal, down. Time was the ally of the group who figured out what to do with the little winged creature who was mumbling about "punishment", "a master" and "going home"."GIMMMMMMMEEEEEEE PLAAAAATE" he screamed. The three counseled on what to do now and offered Shurgal a deal, which he thought through while sitting on the top of the closed portal. The imp agreed to reward them if they would set him free and give him back the plate which seemed to be of considerable importance for the little one and his master. The group waited anxiously at the portal, prepared for another attack of brute force after Shurgal went "home", which didn't happen - instead a bag filled with magical artifacts was thrown through the portal which closed immedeatley afterwards. Shurgal kept his promise - a deal is a deal after all.

"A whisper from the dark" Pt. 1

An aimless person, a lone man - he stumbles through the Cloakwood right into deep caverns. At a silent, dark and long forgotten place he starts to speak. His words are heard. He drifts away. A whisper from the dark. He wakes up. A lone man - he leaves the tunnels and moves with swift steps.

"Strictly business" Pt. 2

An hour before dawn near the docks of Baldur's Gate. A woman kisses her son on his forehead and leaves the shabby house. "Will be back in 2 hours!" She waves him goodbye. A group of gentleman who chat under the rising sun stand at the fountain near the Elfsong Tavern. She passes and wishes them a "Good morning!".

The sun stands high above the earth. One of the Gentleman, a little Weavemaster, has been seen searching the riversides of the stream Chionthar. He finds an abandoned fireplace. His little hand reaches into the ash as he kneels down. Before his fingers stumble upon the burned remains of a map he lets some of the grey dust run through his fingers.

He lets out a sigh and leaves the place. Half a dozen witty individuals return a day later. Together the gnomes investigate the riverside once more. The tracks lead towards a jetty, a bag and a rope with dried blood on it.

The gnomish gathering doesn't hesitate and starts to board the next ship...eh nutshell. Together they cross the river just to end up in a wet cave which is guarded by a heavily armed but weakminded fool. The helpless man allows the adventurers to confuse him so much that he accompanies them up the river, it turned out to be his last tour with a boat since he died a horrible death after he broke out in panic. A supposed highly infectious substance which was spilled over him by an overly mean gnome. A net, a wrong step and an electrical trap later the guard left this plane. The other guard who witnessed the whole scene tried frantically to resist the constantly chattering pack of gnomes. It didn't work. Well done "Cave-inspectors".

Deeper within the hideout they encountered another group of guards standing in front of a locked door. Screams of a woman, followed by silence. One of the gnomes sneaks past the guards, peeks through the keyhole of the door. He listens. "No stone. Get rid of the body, i will leave to report, we will proceed as planned". A mercenary salutes the blond-haired man who then disappears into nowhere by snapping his fingers. The spying gnome gets shortly blinded by sparks and flashes of arcane energy.

The other gnomes are distracting the guards with threats and random chatter."What hav' ya done to her?" The man replies "Strictly business..." There's nothing more to discuss. After an intense battle the last of the Mercenarys who has been petrified gets shattered.

A few metres away in a wet cell lies the lifeless humilated body of the woman they were looking for.

"Tavern Tales"

Evening hours in the east-gate district, a blond lady in red stumbles into a shady sharptongued elven woman. A few coins change the owner without telling her. The lady notices it. After a long discussion the elven woman hands back the copperpieces and demands a drink because she was about to invite the lady with the money she just took. She refuses to, puffs her chest and leaves.

The elf is still thirsty and enters the Elfsong Tavern. Lady Alyth welcomes her with a warm smile. "The cheapest you have, please." Alyth searchs the shelfs and produces an old dusty bottle. "A glass of this firewine perhaps? It's nothing special." The elven woman nods, she doesn't care what it is. Alyth quickly hands her a glass and fills it. They start to chat.

30 minutes later the shady sharptongued woman is a drunken mess and occupied with 2 obviously interested men. A grumpy pirate-look-a-like with a wooden leg and a dark haired smiling young man in shiny armor.

As the man argue who saw her first the woman turns green. Alyth inspects the bottle once again and turns pale. "Ooops, that wasn't firewine. Hopefully noone will notice." Her eyes wander suspiciously across the Inn as she lets the bottle disappear under the bar without anyone noticing. Quickly she then trys everything to make the woman leave. With a little help by the young man the elven woman finally finds the exit.

"Fresh meat"

A man wakes up in a cell-like room, deep down in the mines of a near forrest. His legs hurt, he bleeds, he's lucky that he's alive. Bodies of not so lucky adventurers lay scattered around him. A mumble can be hearn from a shadowy corner. "Who's there?" "Who's askin'?" A terrified figure steps into the flickering light eminated by a fire. He introduces himself as Lucas, a pour soul who was hired by a local mining company for a "simple" job. The Bugbears ambushed - nearly killed him. He was thrown into this room together with all the others. Like Alistair, the man who woke up in here moments ago.

"One thing i didn't mention yet..." Lucas voice is silent as the door jumps open. A bugbear slowly stomps along. He stops. Sniffs the air. Grabs a lifeless leg and pulls a trail of blood behind him. The door gets locked again. A few moments later Lucas and the man peek carefully out of their hideaways. "...every few hours one of them comes in here and grabs one of...this was the third one. I don't know what they are doing with them" Alistairs sharp ears twitch as he senses something which is better left unexplained to the shivering human. Together the two look for an idea, a plan, a way to get out.

10 minutes later they prepare an improvised trap and weapon - waiting for the moment the door is opening another time. The moment comes, the bugbear trips - Alistair doesn't hesitate - a nail pierces the head of the creature. A second bugbear appears in the doorway, a confused look, a snort, his eyes narrow. In rage he grabs his mace and storms towards the two men. Alistair struggles pulling the weapon out of the dead creatures head - the clock is ticking. Lucas jumps at the bugbear. He buys more time for Alistair and pays with his life.

The shocked man screams furiously as he sees the bugbear rise above the dead body of Lucas. They stand eye to eye. An ugly brute armed with an iron mace and a limping man holding a slat with a nail in it. The brute swings the mace. Alistair ducks and dodges. The iron brushes his shoulder before hammering into the door next to the two. Alistair is quick. His aim perfect. Splitseconds later the creature drowns in it's own blood. He looks sad at Lucas before he leaves him behind.

He staggers, leans on the wall for support, alone he will not come far. It's only a question of time until someone will notice the dead bugbears. He presses himself against the walls in a shadowy corner as he hears footsteps - light and swift footsteps. He coughs "Hey!".

Two pairs of helpful hands aid him with his wounds. They apply bandages before they hand Alistair a weapon - he drops the slat - they don't waste time to get out. The tunnels seem already to swarm with creatures. The last brute falls. They run upstairs. Right into the arms of the abomination whose fodder they have with them, and its master. Alistair and the group freeze. They look into the eyes of a huge wolf which bares its teeth at them. Spit drops from its mouth, blue glowing eyes. The master unleashes the beast and tightens the grip around his waraxe. Growls, chants, screams, the sound of colliding steel, the master falls, the beast as well.
"I escape death once more..." Alistair says as he limps upstairs with the group.

"Strictly business" Pt. 3

The group of men board the nutshell, "Ye got the map with ya?". A hooded figure nods. One of them is securing the crates. "Well then, full speed ahead!" The men begin to canoe. The caverns are dark. The walls look like they have been molten a thousand years ago. The water is silent.

A countless amount of hous later the feet of the masked man turn wet. "Ewwww, we are sinking, The crates! Be quick!". Minutes later the men watch the boat sink, they secure the cargo which they were able to rescue and move on through caverns filled with darkness, stuffy air and screams of agony.

"Shhhh" one of them speaks "...did you hear that?" Half of the group shakes their heads. Only moments later they face a disturbing scene. Two eyes, two arms, a body and a mind. The men get pierced by a cold stare - a shudder runs down their spine - they negotiate.

Stuck in the labyrinth they start their search. One betrayal, a fight and six sacrificed souls later they reach a cavern. A big black hole surrounded by a stalactite decoration leads the way.

"Strictly business" Pt. 4

After strolling around in the city, making new contacts and examing the wares on the local markets, the business-men enter the next tavern for a drink. The eyes of the locals seem to pierce them. They ignore it. Instead they look for the next best opportunity.

A small trader with sharp pointy ears enters the bar. He takes a seat at a table and starts to tap his fingers. He waits. The business-men sip on their drinks.

Two humans wearing uniforms enter the bar, one of them orders a drink and starts to talk with the trader. The business-men witness the conversation. There it is - an opportunity.

see ya back soon bud. I should hopefully have a character that is an active member in the Weavemasters when they get reformed a bit too. I wish I was such a fickle gamer.

Take care bud! There will be significanly more "man-nods" in the future!
