Re: Candlekeep Role-Play
Had the gem been stored within the Vault at Candlekeep for study, Grunda would find that she would need to go through the Guide (in-game or via PMs) to retrieve it.

The high ranking avowed of Candlekeep would know Hoihe and Selengil are the ones working with the gem, Selengil performing tests while Hoihe performing theories.

Hoihe reports findings of black orcs hurrying north and stresses being careful when exploring there.
He also stresses the letter by Jon Smythe.
He does all the above through his cat, who carried a letter.

Re: Candlekeep Role-Play
Candlekeep is filled with dwarven curses as Hoihe gathered a few vials of blood just outside Candlekeep's gates, but far enough so a meteor swarm won't hit the wall. There he called a dozens of meteors on the casket of vials of blood, most likely causing slight earthquake to the area. He made sure to stop the meteors from damaging the trail, however. It is practically impossible that anything of the vials of blood survived the angered onslaught Hoihe wrought in his anger. He afterwards stormed back into Candlekeep and avoided even talking with his drinking buddies and Stanley, whom he is teaching the art of adventuring.

Hoihe dug up his old, dusty notes about the "Black Gem phenomenon" and began to study them again. He can be heard both cursing and muttering in excitement..

To Whom it May Concern,
I am seeking advisement about a strange event regarding some ethereal shadow creatures that kidnapped myself and Mister Blackmore two days ago. IF anyone among your Keep happens to have some spare time to discuss events I would very much invite them to a drink of their choosing at a place of their choosing.
Sincerely,
James White the Second

"Sir James White,
I would be happy to discuss these matters with you, and share in knowledge. We are a place of learning, after all. I invite you to come speak with me in my office at Candlekeep at your convenience.

Hoihe when finding out of "ethereal shadow creatures" are kidnapping people, he instantly pens up a letter to the Order chapterhouse, adressed to James White
"Sir James White, my fair greetings!
It would be an honour to discuss with you about these matters, I may have a few theories already. I rather not mention them in letters for I do not trust the delivery-men enough. Until then, I advise avoidance of black gems and ancient ruins.
Hoihe Dacino, Seeker of Candlekeep."

Re: Candlekeep Role-Play
Firstly, the black haired woman would need to have a tome worth at least 10000 gold to donate for entry and accepted by the Keeper of Tomes, the First Reader or the Guide.
Once she was inside, if she was allowed entry, she could stay within the walls to study for 10 days. The one escorting her would be bound by vows to not leave her alone, so she would get no "alone time" for studies.
// the 1000 gold entry fee thing that is currently in game is a mistake and not lore-wise correct. It will be fixed very soon.

"Unfortunately, all petitioners who enter the central Keep must sit at Ulraunt's left shoulder for at least one evening feast meal and endure his searching questions."
"No visitor can remain in Candlekeep for more than 10 days at a time, or enter the monastery less than a month after leaving it."

Re: Candlekeep Role-Play
*a black haired women has visited the candlekeep library several times in the last weeks, arriving usually with 1-4 bodyguards hired for the travel, she'd release and pay them at the candlekeep gates. She most often went straight to the library (once though to the inn with some other people) gladly paying the entry fee as well as acknowledging the price to get individual pages copied. In the library she always walks straight to the "Dragon" section, in there, if not alone, she'd use her natural charisma and sugar-sweet words to get some alone time for her studies.*
/// Designer-Builder Comments: Very true. CK is not your typical public library. Visitors are constantly watched. Non-Avowed are not allowed to write anything themselves. CK finances its operations by selling copies of this Lore. ///Deathgrowl wrote:Firstly, the black haired woman would need to have a tome worth at least 10000 gold to donate for entry and accepted by the Keeper of Tomes, the First Reader or the Guide.

/// Designer-Builder Comments: Not so much as "mistake" as a design compromise. The idea being 1000 gold per day, up to ten days was far easier to implement than the details of Volo's summary.Deathgrowl wrote:// the 1000 gold entry fee thing that is currently in game is a mistake and not lore-wise correct. Suffice it to say, things will be changing with respect to public access of the Library beyond the Lobby to be more in-line with Lore within the limits of the Toolset. Thank you for your understanding. Carry on. ///Volo's guide wrote: "Those wishing to examine any writing in the Keep's library must gift Candlekeep with a new tome of no less than 10,000 gp value. Re: Candlekeep Role-Play
A known windsoul, Gustov of Baulder's Gate, was said to have hosted a small gathering in CandleKeep inn. Twas a party of himself, an elf, and two dwarves. The elf left early, and the dwarves retreated before too much drunkenly damage was caused.
Gustov stayed for some days at the inn, running up an absurd tab. No coin were seen exchanged between Gustov, and the innkeep; however, he was very generous with himself, and anyone else who happened to pass through.
Half asleep, and entirely drunk, Gustov receives a message wispered upon the winds; he must travel to the Friendly Arm, and meet another plane-touched. Gustov pauses a moment, and arrives at the door of the friendly arm instantly. he is not aware of how he got there; he is still drunk.
