To represent a cost for all of that power (cast forever and not get tired?!
I also really like the idea of angry mobs with pitchforks.

. . . I am not sure what you mean by "Completes the contract", but I genuinely hope that you are being sarcastic, or facetious. Do you mean the Pact Holder somehow manages to kill the PC? If you are being funny, hahah; if you are being serious, you need to leave this conversation and never return. Ever. Never ever.Duster47 wrote: To represent a cost for all of that power (cast forever and not get tired?!), perhaps add a 1/100-chance Mystra will recognize the Pack Holder completes the contract with the PC. Then the Player can either wait in limbo for DM assistance or accept their fate. Either way, eventually so long warlock! Half XP added to RCR account. Booted. Start again with new PC.
I am following up on TheVoid's comments about Packs have costs.WeWhoEat wrote:. . . Now that at least makes more sense, though I still dislike the idea of forcing a perma on anybody who did not earn it via like earth-shaking RP. Go nuts and start blasting away at random people in the middle of the Gate? Good time for a perma strike. Roll of a dice from an OOC system meant to "encourage" RP? Bad time for a perma strike.Duster47 wrote: On second thought, the "your contract is complete" conversation should probably happen with Myrkul.
While I think pact enforcement should be left to DMs, would the first part of this be easy, Duster?Duster47 wrote:Mystra could port warlocks to a new "education center" where a dedicated NPC explains facts about Pacts. Once the PC's education is complete, the PC receives a "contract" token, which allows them to leave. Later interactions with Mystra while having the token will send the PC on their way.

- Supporting BG:TSCCRWs apply for the class near the beginning of their character's lives, because they know from the beginning that their character is going to be a RW. Same with Warlocks. Warlocks would just have to apply before they roll up their PCs, if they want to start from level 1.Maecius wrote:I like the idea of making it application only as well, but as it is a base class, I am not sure how we would handle that. Unless no one was ever able to take the class at level 1 (so no "pure" level 30 warlocks), in which case we'd just enforce it the same way we do the Red Wizards of Thay.
The Nexus is an OOC area, isn't it? What you're talking about is an IC consequence, which shouldn't happen in the Nexus.Duster47 wrote: perhaps add a 1/100-chance Mystra will recognize the Pack Holder completes the contract with the PC

- Supporting BG:TSCCYes. A one-tile area "classroom" stuck on the corner of an existing map. One NPC "instructor". Adjust Mystra's dialog to check for "uneducated" warlocks.... There could be different lessons for different classes such as FS, Cleric or warlock. Issue the token acknowledging class completion. DM help with the "lessons" (text) would be very helpful.Maecius wrote:While I think pact enforcement should be left to DMs, would the first part of this be easy, Duster?Duster47 wrote:Mystra could port warlocks to a new "education center" where a dedicated NPC explains facts about Pacts. If so, at the very least players would know what they were getting into by playing a warlock.
