An elven Paladin ?

Unread post by Narsil »

Hi. I have question that I have searched for, and seems still unclear as to an "official" stance on the subject.

So, I really, really, really want to try to play a Paladin. But, not the typical Pally seen strutting around occasionally. I would love to try to play an elven Pally, devoted to serving the elvish peoples and their "father", Corellon Larethian.

I did find a few threads here where folks debated back & forth about..... "Elves are too chaotic to be a Paladin", ....and.... " It's against the canon lore with nothing to support it". Even stuff like... " Elves would/should never be Lawful Good." :?:

Then, on the other hand, there most definitely IS source material which DOES support elven Paladins.

The best source I found was from a post right here :

http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?p=296756#p296756

And, believe it or not, there is actually something posted right here on the forums in the section GUIDING players how to correctly play their character. ( A post by our esteemed Maecius, no less. ) :)

Read the quote box below "PLAYING A SUN ELF".

http://www.bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?p=81595#p81595

So, two questions I respectfully put forward, if you please.

1) May I attempt to create and play my character concept ? If not, can some type of "official " decision or statement on the matter be given for future reference ?

2) If I am given permission to attempt such, how can it be done, mechanics-wise ? I tried to make a Lawful Good Paladin and/or LG Favored Soul, but then cannot select any elven diety. If allowed, is it simply a matter of making the character, then having a DM change the diety AFTER character creation ? ( I was hoping for a FS/Pally mix, not sure if that complicates the engine issues...)

I hope this is not interpretted as my request for a "special-snowflake" type of character. Rare, yes , but not a Drizzt type rare, by any means. I just want to bring some more faith/religion-based roleplay into the server, but not the typical cleric/priest types often seen.

I will dare to call myself a "Role-player" (although not nearly as gifted as some others here, I am trying) as opposed to a power-builder / grinder type. And, this character really IS being brewed up as a roleplay concept in conjunction with at least one other player/character . If required, I would be willing to submit any details requested about this.

Thank for at least reading this far, and any assistance offered.

TL DR ; Can I Puhleeez make an elven Paladin of Corellon Larethian ?? :D

They are rare, not non-existent. I'm glad you're interested in lore at all, most people just go ahead in do it. An Elven Paladin shouldn't be more rare than evil Aasimar, and the server has a great population of evil Aasimar.

Elven Paladins have a very loose order, the Fellowship of the Forgotten Flower, which is determined in recovering Elven relics lost from their homelands. The order allows Fighters as well as Paladins to be members of the order.

Some material:

http://www.nj-pbem.com/data/Gods/elveng ... ethian.htm
http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/F ... ten_Flower

This is basically all I could find that could be called reliable.

Though I'd say just roll with a pure paladin like a boss, throw the FS into a trash can. Otherwise you'd be just like all the other "paladins" and forever begrudged by Atlas.
In realms of Mordayn Vapor.. Rollin' DC 16's.. Groovy.

Hi again,

Two quick questions :

1 ) Is there something possibly messed-up with this sub-forum ? The other topic (about the future of the UD) seems "stuck" for me. It shows I have some unread posts in that thread, and lists the last post as one that I cannot ever see within that thread. Is it just me ?

Reason I ask is...... did I miss / not see other posts in this sub-forum ??? (Bringing me to next question.......

2 ) What is the typical timeframe for a response to questions posted here ? (Or, is there a timeframe?) I certainly realize the DM team are busy at the moment with the various threads debating a few "concerns" the playerbase are having. I can wait my turn, but I also have been told by more than one DM in the past to not be afraid to "poke" and speak up to be sure I am not getting lost in the shuffle. :)

Thanks again !

Hi there Narsil.

To show some light, here. :)

1) Nothing is messed up with this forum. Though, every posts need to be approved by either a DM or a moderator, this is to help facilitating communication, so DMs don't have to read trough a hundred comment about the original poster's question.

2) There is no timeframe set. DMs awnser when they notice it and do know the awnser themselves. Sometimes, member of the community with knowlenge may awnser for them, and a DM or moderator may approve their message. As I just did with Gottmoerder's reply. (I hope it helps, by the way!).

I've been personally busy with RL in the past couple of days, usually I try to keep this forum clean of posts waiting for approval everydays. Now I'm up to date, though. (-;

Thanks very much you two.

Great info there, Gottmoerder, it will come in useful in fleshing-out my background and RP.

So, if I am not mis-reading the response, they result is "Go for it, but do it right" :D

That is seriously awesome. Yes, I said seriously. LOL.

But that still leaves one (pretty major) hurdle ..... the game engine.
-------------------------------------

It won't let me make a Paladin or LG Favored Soul, while selecting ANY elven god.

What can I do ?

- Make a LG Favored Soul, pick any diety it allows, and ask a DM in-game to change it to Corellon Larethian for me ? ( Will this work, and let me pick Paladin on the next level-up ? ) Almost seems TOO simple.

Crazy computer-game mechanics......

Thanks much !
