Triel Rejuvination Project ** RP Record **

Unread post by Silver_Lining »

This thread is specifically and solely dedicated to logging and keeping track of the efforts to lifting the curse and restoration efforts in Triel. Posts here in can be made in the following manner.:

[*] Screen Shots Of RP
[*] A written IC or OOC account of RP
[*] A page of your PC's journal accounting IC events.
[*] A bard's epic tale (if you feel so compelled, but please stick to the facts as they occurred so the DM an keep track of facts, not embellishments.

Please do not disclose secrets of our efforts in your writing.
Details such as plans to thwart the enemies efforts should be PMed to myself and/or DM Nephilim, as we wouldn't want to create a situation where claims of meta are made. Prevention is the best cure. :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A note to the Evils:
If you are playing someone who is acting contrariwise to our efforts, please do not post here. This thread is for those seeking to restore Triel. If you have done something against our efforts that we would see upon visiting Triel, or otherwise become aware of, please inform DM Nephilim so that a post may be made allowing us knowledge of what we find, but in a manor that will not OOCly betray who's act it was.
I want to thank everyone who is going to participate, on both sides of the effort, both on that of good, and evil, as all of us together are what will make this exhilarating RP! (Not just us good guys *winks*)
To keep confusion and misunderstandings to a minimum, I am c/p the DM's post regarding this effort below:
DM Nephilim wrote:((Before things get to far with this, I need to point out a few details and set some expectations.
1. DUE TO WHAT HAPPENED IN TRIEL, COMPLETE RESTORATION CANNOT BE COMPLETED IN LESS THAN 1 YEAR closer to 2. ((complete restoration meaning people are in the town, and planting/harvesting crops))
2. The Removal of the taint/blight on the land is the first step, if that is not accomplished, the rest is for naught.
3. There is a VERY slim chance of success do to the current condition of Triel, and also due to what has transpired there. But there is a chance
4. There is a solution, but it is not something that will happen over night.
5. While everyone and their brother might want to help, there will be a limited number involved in actual events and it will not be the same players over and over, I will give people who want to participate the chance. I just have to keep the actual events as they happen at a controllable number of players. If Guilds and Orders want to participate, then they can but events will be limited in the number of players involved. ((I am thinking 6 - 8 active in the events.)) There will be many events so no one should get left out, and if individuals come up with something insightful and wish to follow it up then that can be arranged with an even smaller group.
7. Should the players remove the taint/blight, there will be monetary costs involved in rebuilding that will have to be paid. Towns do not rebuild themselves nor protect themselves for nothing.
8. I
will not / am not going to tolerate whining if things don't go the way you want or thought they would. Triel is in bad shape, and there are forces who want it to stay that way that will need to be dealt with. So you are not only having to figure out how to remove the blight, you are going against other players who working to a different goal.
If someone wants to collect together what the players know of the taint/blight currently and post it here with your next steps, then we can start moving forward.
If you have questions feel free to contact me directly.
Brenday's diary for the past two days; Entries 21 and 22 http://www.bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=2 ... 3&start=15
Today:
Today Brenda approached the Candlekeep Guide in hopes of being granted permission to enter the Candlekeep Library. Her hope is to research curses in an effort to find anything/everything that might be of aid to their efforts to lift the curse.. Learning that the cost of admission is a 10k or greater tome, she was, for a moment, temporally taken aback. The idea of obtaining an item of such immense value is a little disparaging to someone who possesses only donation money toward the Abbey, and no coin of her own due to vows... However, she quickly came to the realization that she is in no way alone in this effort, and has since set out in hopes of finding someone willing to aid her in the acquisition of such a treasure..
Ivan has pulled Brenda aside to let her know he wishes to aid in the efforts as well. He has also mentioned that he too, like Vendor, had spoken to the Elder Circle regarding the efforts and has asked to be present for the meeting.
Receiving the following message, Brenda pens back:
It have been the wishes of the Song of the Morning temple in Beregost to investigate and cleanse the undead scourge of Triel for some time. The Templar Quindeel Shamoon and I are currently assigned to this task as part of my tutoring of her.
Should further resources be needed for this task, the Song of the Morning temple will be able to assist as best we can, provided arrangements can be made for safe passage through the Land of the Dukes. Our temple is based in Amnian territory and not all within the Land of the Dukes may look favorably upon our holy warriors marching en-force through the lands.
Should you have any questions or wish to petition for further aid, I ask that contact Vicar Thomas at the temple to coordinate our efforts. Otherwise, Quindeel and I will act as representatives of the temple.
Persons going into the spoiled lands of Triel may or may not report finding charred remains of plagued corpses. Many bodies show signs of being hacked and slashed as if with a heavy-bladed weapon. All are then burned.
Cynric and Tolan at Triel
Cynric, son of Rigo, honorable chief of the Greyfox Tribe and myself, his shieldwife, Nerys, the skald of the Tribe were roaming along the river on a cool winter day. A metal-clad warrior approached us seeking our aid in defeating the dishonored walking undead in nearby Triel. You will recall the Fall of Triel story, about how warriors of coin betrayed others causing the battle and village to be lost. Later, the vile Dark Horde poisoned the land and water completing Triel's destruction. Now it is only inhabited by the dishonored dead. Their cursed corpses stumble about while their spirits are tied to the cursed place. They do not know the freedom of the wind.
Tolan, a warrior of Lathandar, the god of the rising sun, explained he must go into Triel to remove the undead infesting the place. Cynric and I eagerly accepted this chance for combat in the name of Tempos. We arrived to find a few cursed undead who were quickly given an honorable death in combat. Now their spirits were free to find their way to the North Wind.
Soon after, we found a wall of whirling blades of sorsery. Behind the blades stood a warrior hiding behind a black mask. True warriors show their faces so that all will know who they either fight beside or fight against.
The dark warrior issued a warning, "Leave Triel." We responded that we came to Triel to rid the wreckage of cursed undead. The dark warrior claimed she was protecting the cursed undead in the name of her Blackfeather-like god, Myrkul. She said, "An attack on the undead would be the same as attacking her." The honorable warriors scoffed at the idea. I told the others this masked warrior was of same mind with the darkest actions of the Blackfeather. I reminded them how the Blackfeather greatly dishonored their brothers and sisters in the Moor. Expect the same from this masked, warrior of darkness. In a moment, the whirling blades of sorsery faded into the wind. The dark warrior quickly retreated from us.
We pressed on searching for more cursed undead. I saw one, a ghastly shape of a farmer, clouded in vile sickness and rot. I put a few arrows into it, giving it an honorable death in combat. Chief Cynric proudly commented to Tolan, "She rarely misses."
We circled the area and eventually found the wreckage of the walls to the hilltop fort. I reminded Cynric and Tolan that this was the place where the coin-loving, dishorable mercenaries turned on us in the Fall of Triel. Not much remains of it now. Burned tree wall and crumbled stone hut. The scorched ground crunched under our feet; the life burned and poisoned away from it by orc-kin.
Then the dark warrior appeared to us again. Around the same time, we found two broken-shield comrads of Tolan. Both were gravely wounded, each breath seeming to be their last. Tolan called on the spirits in the name of Lathandar, who healed the two enough to stand. But they were in no shape for battle. I steadied them while my bow was at the ready should more cursed undead come to us. Cynric and Tolan then traded more taunting words with the dishonored masked warrior of the Blackfeather Myrkul, spitting after saying the name. The dark one demaned we retreat from the place. The chief, would have none of it, hoisting his father's axe, the Axe of Rigo, over his head, saying, "We shall not!"
The dark one then began calling on the dark, cursed spirits, flinging her sorcery around herself then at Cynric and Tolan. Tolan quickly called on the spirits of the light of Lathandar. Cynric did not wait and charged headlong into honorable combat against the dark warrior. Tolan followed a moment later. I raised my bow but dared not launch an arrow into the frenzy of shadows, sword, and blade. I see the Axe of Rigo swing wide then hear the sound of slicing metal and flesh and bone. The dust settles and Cynric and Tolan stand victorious over their fallen foe. "THE NORTH WIND BLOWS!" Cynric calls out for the spirits of the Foehammer and the Wind Walker to hear.
The two warriors wasted no time tossing the limp, bloody body into the nearby poisoned river. It sank quickly from view into the vile, green water, where if anything lives, will feast on broken corpse of the Blackfeather of Myrkul.
After the battle, the five warriors returned to their camps. I, Nerys, daughter of Taban, skald of the Tribe and shieldwife of the Chief was there and saw it with my own eyes. I wrote this story and will share it with others of the Greyfox Tribe. Now we all will know and remember "Cynric and Tolan at Triel."
Brenda and Ameris met last night and made plans for the first meeting of the project, to bring all those partaking together in the first steps toward reclamation.
Brenda and Cara met last night on neutral ground to discuss the state of affairs in Triel. Both seeming to want the situation to end with as little and/or as close to no bloodshed as possible.
Brenda prepares to meet with the Elder Circle.
Brenda is seeking Tolin's aid in wording the letter to the Dukes regarding the Temple of Lathander's part in the endeavor.
Talisen has declared his desire to aid in the reclamation.
Communion with the Sun - 28th of Ches DR 1350
A tall man clad in finely polished steel armor engraved with the symbol of Lathander walks into Triel after dark. He arrives to find the place mostly barren save for a few undead roaming the area. As he walk through the ruins, he occasionally sends forth a wave of light the washes out from him. Sometimes the wave hit nothing, other times it destroy the few undead that stray too close.
Image
Taking the long path around the ruins, he circles the area, looking for undead or others like him who have come there to aid Triel. Save for a few undead near the center of town, he doesn't encounter anyone, and he heads directly towards the desecrated shrine to Chauntea, destroying any undead on his path.
Image
As he arrive at the shrine, he is met by a man clad mostly in leathers, the druid Ivan. The two of them exchange pleasantries before Ivan leave the man to his task. The task, one of communion with his god Lathander in an attempt to ask for his aid in the restoration of the shrine to his lover Chauntea, starts with the man consecrating the immediate area around the shrine.
Image
Unfortunately the consecration attempt fails and the mans shoulders slump in defeat. As he stands there, looking at the desecrated shrine to Chauntea, an idea comes to mind. It is but a small hope, but maybe, just maybe, something small might succeed where something big would fail. He takes a candle from his travelpack and places it on the ground before him, a smile on his lips.
Image
  • "Lathander, hear my plea.
    I stand before a holy site to your lover, Chauntea, broken and twisted by the evil that have befallen this land. I seek your guidance, I ask your aid. Lend your strength to your lover in this place that she may once again grow strong and her beauty spread through the land as her roots dig deep into the earth."
The man chants a prayer in front of the broken shrine, his head lowered towards the ground, hovering near the lit candle. As his chant reaches its end, he mutters a few words and invokes the divine grace of Lathander to bless the candle.
Image
His smile widens as he watches the blessing cocoon the candle in the grace of Lathander and slowly sink into the wax, strengthening it. He looks at the candle for a while as the flame flickers in the wind, but never dying out. On a whim he trace his fingers over the the Golden Chalice of Lathander hanging from his belt, invoking the power of Light, directing the magic at the candle.
Image
Image
His smile widens as the magic once again takes root in the already blessed candle, Lathander's grace now permeating the small stick of wax. Satisfied with his preparations, he kneels down over the candle in prayer, chanting to Lathander, pleading him to turn his gaze upon the shrine to Chauntea, his lover, and give her the aid she so desperately need in that forsaken place.
  • "Lathander, hear my plea.
    The land in this place have suffered greatly in recent past, one calamity striking after the other. The presence of your lover have begun to wane under the constant barrage of the evil that now taint this place. I ask that you grace your lover with a gentle caress in this place.
    Let the beauty of your union give new hope to this place. Let beauty once more find its way as the footsteps of your lover thread through this place and your grace lights her path. I ask this of you, for my heart bleeds with the loss of beauty in this land, once a fertile place, now reduced to a ruin.
    You teach us that a Second Dawn is granted to all who seek it. That even in the darkest hour, there is hope. That is what I ask of you, to help bring hope to this place that the land can heal and beauty once more find its way as nature return to claim this place that it may embrace its Second Dawn."
Image
After hours of praying to Lathander in front of the shrine to Chauntea, the man finally stands up and takes one last look at the shrine and candle before turning away, walking out of Triel, a profound smile on his lips.
Unbeknownst to the man, the druid Ivan had returned at some point during the man's prayers, watching over him in silence, hidden from view. The druid watches the man, Tolan, he remembers his name to be, as he depart.
Image
Left behind is a single candle in front of the shrine, burning with a small flame that flickers in the wind, but never wanes as it burns throughout the night. Rain doesn't touch it or extinguish it, and only with the comming of the rays of the Sun at dawn does it finally flicker out, the candle wick having burnt into the ground.
Unbeknownst to the devout of Lathander, his action had little effect on the much tainted land of Triel. Sometime after he departed an Orc clad in armor was seen in Triel...he exchanged a few words with the human he encountered, and then cast a mild earthquake spell at the shrine of Chauntea, causing the ground to shake, the stones to fall, and the candle to be crushed and snuffed out.
Satisfied with his actions he leaves warning with the human, which leads to brief combat, the Orc tires of the battle and departs without a trace.
Communal prayer to Chauntea - 29th of Ches DR 1350
Arriving at the shrine to Chauntea on the following day, and upon seeing the destruction wrought there in less than a day, Tolan, the devout of Lathander, breathes a sigh of frustration. He surveys the scene for a moment, then steels his resolve and cleans out the rubble, clearing a patch in front of the shrine once more.
Using the rubble, as well as some supplies that he brought with him, Tolan builds a make-shift altar to Chauntea and places a few candles in a wreath-like pattern around the altar. After he finishes constructing the ritual site, he places himself in front of the altar and folds his hands behind his back, waiting.
Image
About half an hour later a friendly face arrives at the shrine, the face of Selena Solverson, the priestess of Selûne, ally and friend of Tolan. The two of them barely manage to talk before the nemesis of Tolan, the Myrkulite priestess Cara, shows herself. The two of them argue for a while before Cara eventually leaves, claiming the actions of Tolan to be futile.
Roughly an hour pass before those joining in the days prayer arrive. Few words are exchanged at first, but eventually, as the group grow in size, a constant humm and buzz of conversation fill the air. Conversation that quickly turn to shouting and anger as a dragon arrive, proclaiming the futility of the actions by those involved. A few of those gathered there claim the dragon to be a shapeshifted druid.
Not wishing to delay the prayers and prolong their stay in the cursed ruins of Triel, Tolan calls out for the other priests to come attend him inside the wreath in front of the altar. Ameris Santraeger, Selena Solverson, Brenda DuVale, Vendor Xorn, Cheya, Gwendylana Clearwater and Joylee Oathkeep all join him in the prayers.
  • *Standing in front of those gathered by the broken shrine to Chauntea, he looks at each and every one of them before speaking*
    "We are gathered here today to offer prayers of aid to Chauntea and her allies. This will be a communal prayer. I will speak the words and you will repeat them."
    *He once again looks at each and every one in turn*
    "There will be time for individual prayers after the communal prayer, but keep in mind that the goal for today is to ask for aid in making Chauntea's presence felt here again."
    "There will be no prayers spoken that ask for vengeance or to purify the land. That will come later. Our efforts here must remain focused."
    *He waits a short while, looking out over those gathered around him, then nods* "Let us begin. Repeat my words as I speak them."
    *He turn towards the broken shrine to Chauntea, raising his hands above his head in prayer*
    "Gods above, hear our plea.
    We stand before the shrine of one of your kin, The Great Mother, Chauntea."
    *The others repeat his words*
    "Part of her is withering away as the land in this place does the same. Her presence wanes each day and we weep for the loss of one such as she."
    *The others repeat his words*
    "Yet she still remain. We have faith that she will grow strong again in this place. We have faith that her presence will dig deep into the soil and take root again, never to be torn from this place."
    *The others repeat his words*
    "We stand here, humble men and women all, asking for your aid. Lend whatever strength you can to your kin. Let Chauntea feel the support of her kin, help her stand tall in this place once again."
    *The others repeat his words*
    *He turn back to those participating in the communal prayer.*
    "Lathander, your lover needs you in this place. We ask of you to let your grace shine upon this place that Chauntea may lift her head to the rays of your grace and bloom once more."
    *The others repeat his words*
    *As he finish the prayer to Lathander his eyes then set on Ameris and he motions him to stand*
    *He looks at Ameris as he continues the communal prayer, speaking to him as the ears of Ilmater*
    "Ilmater, one of you kin suffer in this place. We ask of you to embrace her and hold her, to reach into her and ease the pain she have suffered in this tainted place."
    *The others repeat his words*
    *As he finish the prayer to Ilmater, he motions for Ameris to kneel back down.*
    *He then continues the communal prayer*
    "Tyr, a grave injustice have befallen your kin. We ask not for retribution, but for you to stand in front of your kin, to shield her from further pain while she heal."
    *The others repeat his words*
    *As he finish the prayer to Tyr, his eyes then set on Selena and he motions her to stand*
    *He looks at Selena as he continues the communal prayer, speaking to her as the ears of Selûne*
    "Selûne, your kin walks in the shadow of night. We ask that you shine your light upon her and those who stand with her, that they need not work in the dark."
    *The others repeat his words*
    *As he finish the prayer to Selûne, he motions for Selena to kneel back down*
    *He looks out over the gathering one more time, and then turns around to look at the shrine to Chauntea again. Raising his hands up above his head, he continues the prayer*
    "Chauntea, we stand before your shrine. We have asked your lover, your allies, your friends, to aid your return to this place. We stand with open arms, waiting, ready to welcome you back."
    *The others repeat his words*
    "New roots will be planted at your shrine in the coming days. As they grow strong, so too do we hope that you will as well. This we hope."
    *The others repeat his words*
    "We, the faithful of your lover, allies and friends, will remain here, aiding, healing, protecting and preparing for your return. This we promise."
    *The others repeat his words*
    *With those last words, he dip his head in silent respect and reverance to the broken shrine to Chauntea, remaining silent for a time*
    *Finally he turn back to the gathering, a smile on his lips*
    "Thank you for attending the prayers. It have been an honor to lead you all in prayer. Those of you who wish it, may now offer your own prayers, but keep in mind that they need to follow the theme we set in the communal prayers."
Tolan bows to the gathering and motions for Ameris to follow as he walks away from the shrine, leaving the others to their personal prayers. The two of them talk for a while before Tolan excuses himself and heads back south to the shrine to Chauntea at the Baldur's Gate Bridge, a small smile on his lips from the prayers. How good it felt to lead, let alone partake, in something this grand.
29th of Ches DR 1350
A lone living orc has been seen wandering around Triel, informing any there that they need to leave his Lords lands, as they no longer belong to the humans who once lived there.
A group of adventures encountered the Orc and fairly quickly killed him as he was warning them to leave. Upon his death, the undead in Triel seemed to become more agitated than normal, what were thought to be dead/decaying trees uprooted themselves and attacked, revealing them to be undead Treants.
Masses of plague zombies rose from the earth, coming at the adventures, blocking all means of egress. The small band fought through what zombies they could, making their way down the trails to the "safety" of Thundar's Ride. But even with their exodus, the undead did not subside in Triel for many, many hours....the undead swarming, obviously roused by something.
The body of the Orc, disappeared sometime during the skirmishes, and the adventures have no idea what happened.....although one though they saw the Orc pass from Thundar's Ride back to Triel after they had escaped.....any tracks vanished once back in the ruins of Triel.
More charred remains may or may not be noticed by others around the Triel ruins. Some have bits of arrows remaining.
Something happened during the second meeting in Triel.
After the voices of the prayer to Chauntea had faded away, Vendor Xon scratched the ground, planted a seed of a healingplant called Juniper Berry and watered it.....
...After about a tenday Vendor Xon moved back to Triel to have a look if anything had grown. The ranger arrived the remains of Triel in the afternoon. From a far he could see the small little plant. As he came closer he already noticed the signs of the taint. Carefully he dug out the sapling and put it into a wet stuff. He whispered to himself: " So there is maybe still a bit of hope" The ranger wasn't sure if it was the right choice. "Anyway, I can plant another one later"
Joining of faiths - 26th of Tarsakh DR 1350
Arriving at Candlekeep in the afternoon, the Morninglord Tolan takes up position near the fountains just outside the main library. When asked by passers-by he states that he's there for a meeting. Some time passes before his contact arrives, a woman clad in elegant iron silks.
The two of them make their way to Winthrop's tavern and share a cup of tea as they talk. Talking freely with no reservations for whom may overhear them, they exchange words of faith, broken off by the woman occasionally seeming to meditate. After a few hours they part with a bright smile on both their lips.
When asked about the nature of their meeting, Winthrop's answer would be short and simple.
"Seemed like they were forging some form of alliance of faiths. Something about Triel."
Moving forward - 29th of Tarsakh DR 1350
Sitting by his desk at his room in Baldur's Gate, the Morninglord Tolan spends hours writing and re-writing a letter detailing his thoughts for the efforts in Triel. Finally, as dawn approaches he puts his signature at the bottom of each of the four copies he have crafted and wipes the back of his hand across his brow.
Reading through one of the copies one last time, he smiles and nods to himself, satisfied with his work. Leaning back in his chair, the wood creaking, he lets out a heavy sigh and folds each letter into an envelope, sealing it with a waxen seal. Stepping outside his room for a few moments, he hands over each envelope to his messenger, a young orphaned boy.
"Take these letters to our friends and then get yourself something to eat," he says with a warm, but tired, voice as he hands over a few silver coins. He looks at the boy for but a moment before he hands over a handful of gold coins as well, "stop by the baker and get some fresh bread for your brothers and sisters at the orphanage as well."
He pats the boy on the head and watches as he runs off, letters in one hand, coins in the other and a smile as joyful as Tolan had ever seen.
"Now we wait and hope for the future," he says with a tired voice, barely able to finish his words before a yawn cuts him off. Shaking his head at his own perseverance, he lets out a small chuckle and steps inside his room, heading for his bed. "Maybe just an hour of rest and I can still catch the sunrise," he mutters as he dives in under the blankets.
