Background:
Raised by Lathandarite parents in Waterdeep, Tolan enjoyed the safety and comfort of a life among the nobility, although neither of his parents were noble. Having risen through deeds and good fortune to become accepted among the nobility, his father was a paladin of the Spires of the Morning temple while his mother worked for the temple as a confidante and historian.

Growing up with his older brother, Miran, five years older than him, Tolan was trained from a young age to value a strong body and agile mind, the physical training undertaken with his father and brother, while his mother was responsible for education. Both of his parents, while Lathandarites, did not attempt to indoctrinate him, but rather told him of many different deities, letting him choose his own path in life.

Eventually he chose Lathander and joined the temple to begin his training as a squire. During his training he learned of the Dawnbringers of the first era of Lathandarite worship, setting that as his goal - to become a man of both the cloth and steel. Originally he had planned to follow in fathers footsteps, but the restrictions of a paladin didn't sit well with his free-spirited mind.

A few years after his brother completed his training as a templar, also at the Spires of the Morning temple, Miran left for adventure, desiring to see more of the world before he settled down. His initial plans were to head south towards Baldur's Gate, although it might not be his final destination.

Only two years after Miran's departure, Tolan complete his own training as a priest and undertake more martial training to enhance his prowess of faith with strength of body, the next step towards becoming a Dawnbringer. He never completes it as both his parents mysteriously die within hours of eachother at the family estate.

Only a month after, having buried his parents and left a custodian in charge of maintaining the estate, Tolan leaves in search of Miran, heir to the family titles and holdings. Letters had stopped arriving at some point, leaving Tolan with no indication of where his brother might be, but he decide that Baldur's Gate might be as good a place to start as any.

Going by foot, barely a month after his departure, Tolan is ambushed and attempted kidnapped by a group of Bhaalists. Luckily he was saved by a male elf whom he then travelled with after thanking him. The two of them take several detours, offering their help to those they meet. Their detours take them further inland, towards the east, and thus away from Baldur's Gate.

After a little over a year of travelling together, Tolan splits up with his elven friend and make his way to Baldur's Gate on his own, arriving ten months later. Shortly after arriving, he befriends the halfling Sling, whom show him the Sword Coast. Eventually he disappear into Baldur's Gate and is not heard from for several months until one day, late in Marpenoth of DR 1349 when he emerges once again.

This is where his tale began in earnest ...

Goals:
- Find his missing brother
- Spread hope and happiness to those around him
- Restore Triel
- Permanently lay Chaos to rest
- Permanently lay the Necrolord to rest
- Permanently lay the Dracolich to rest
- Find a partner for life and give up his hedonistic life-style
- Learn the truth about his parents death - Achieved

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas:
- Is currently searching for his missing brother, Miran. Both him and his close friends believe Miran to be the captive of a Bhaalist cult, possibly the same that attempted to kidnap Tolan near Waterdeep.

- Advocates destroying any and all undead at all times, but will give unknowing necromancers a chance to redeem themselves if they prove worthy of his time and effort.

- Have a background of strife and mistrust with the woman named Cara. While not his enemy, she is one of the few he no longer believe capable of finding redemption and embracing a Second Dawn. A failure of faith on his part.

- Due to Tolan's free-spirited and often hedonistic lifestyle, he sometimes leave broken hearts in his wake. He does his best to console and make amends, but it is not always enough and occasionally become the cause of strife with or among others.

Misc Facts:
- Believes himself to be human despite his distinctively non-human features. A birth defect according to his mother.

- Following a misguided courtship with the Lady Paladin of Tyr, Cecilia Lafayette, his hedonistic ways have been tempered some, the sting of unreturned love still hanging like a shadow over him.

- Have been hit in his right arm by a necromantic disease that caused his arm to slowly turn towards undeath. The disease was stopped and his arm restored at the hands of Ameris, Kaltyra, and Illyana Sverre.

- During a trance he was slain by Thedran and later accused of seeking to bring about the second coming of the Avatar of Bhaal. Whether or not this holds any sway still remain to be seen.

- Met the Drow Priestess Irrtana Sshamath on the surface and was defeated by her. Managed to get away, but she sometimes taunts him with abduction and sacrifice to Lolth via Sendings.

Complete description:
Appearance and personality:
A tall and muscular man in his late twenties with lightly tanned skin and raven hair. He is broad over the chest and shoulders with an otherwise lean frame. His face is slightly angular and his hair rustled as if he just got out of bed. On rare occasions his slightly pointy ears are visible beneath his hair, though he doesn't try to hide them.

His icy-blue eyes sparkly and shine with with passion and abundant confidence. His gaze is always warm and comforting with wisdom beyond his apparent age, inviting any who meet his gaze for long to closer and deeper. Upon closer inspection his eyes carry a playful and care-free tingle mixed with a sense of serenity that would be difficult to miss when close.

When he speaks, his voice is soft in tone and strong in presence, every word spoken with the utmost confidence and politeness. He often flashes a warm and inviting smile when he speak - a smile that just as often turn into a playful smirk.

His every move is graceful and precise, like a dancer flowing gracefully from one step to the next. He walks with his back straight and chin up, eyes always on the horizon or glancing around him to keep track of his surroundings or gaze upon those he travel with.

Should you be close to him you would easily notice his supreme confidence, though he would not come across as arrogant. Everything from his posture and the way he carries himself to how he speak carries his confidence with it like an intangible pressence emenating from him.

Combat attire:
When wearing his polished armor, the symbol of Lathander is readily apparent on the breastplate. The armor is also inlaid with several patterns and runes that appear to be some form of crest.

He also wear a headband incribed with runes that mark him as a Morninglord of Lathander, while around his shoulders hang a blue cape held in place by a clasp marking him as a hospitaler.

On his right hip, hanging from his belt, is his weapon of choice - a two-headed warhammer made from the purest steel. The head is made from a heavier type of steel and carries a fiery teint to it, emitting a low heat. The shaft is made from lighter steel matching the color of his armor and inscribed with several runes.

He sometimes carries a shield in his left hand, made from the same materials as his armor and inlaid with both the symbol of Lathander and patterns and runes that form a crest identical to the one on his armor.

On his left hip, hanging from his belt, is a golden chalice inscribed with the symbol of Lathander.

Casual attire:
He often wear a white tunic spun from fine silks and inlaid with golden stichings. His tunic fits snugly around his lean torso without restricting his movements. On his legs, he wear a pair of black pants also spun from fine silks and inlaid with golden stitchings, though fewer in number than his tunic.

On rare occasions he will wear a more simple attire consisting of a free-flowing punk tunic spun from cotton and held in place by a simple belt of pale brown leather. On his legs he wear a pair of simple black cotton pants, tucked neatly into a pair of high boots made from simple leathers.

Theme song and lyrics:

  • Close my weary eyes
Under choking clouds of ash and darkest dust
The silver kiss of sleep is lost
I can feel these broken cogs begin to rust

But when the end finally comes I won't despair
I'll just keep on hoping I might see you there

Try to keep a blank page
But these memories they flood my mind with grief
    Faces lost forever
And the guilt of feeling some kind of relief

But when the end finally comes I won't despair
I'll just keep on hoping I might see you there

    Family...

Six long years I could see your ghosts
    ...
Six long years I could see your ghosts
    ...
Six long years I could see your ghosts
    ...
Six long years I could see your ghosts

As this world of twisted metal falls
I can hear the demons tearing down the walls
In the face of so much hate and cruelty
In my mind's eye Lathander's all I see

But when the end finally comes I won't despair
I'll just keep on hoping I might see you there

    Family...

Six long years I could see your ghosts
    ...
Six long years I could see your ghosts
    ...
Six long years I could see your ghosts
    ...
Six long years I could see your ghosts
