Warlock invocations and alignement

Unread post by sinopip »

I think we would need to know which invocations are more suitable for a warlock, depending on his alignement.
For example, "Dark Ones Own Luck" looks like it's evil, so only evil characters may take it. What about the other invocations?

Although none of the invocations are restricted to take and to use, it should be good to define the invocations by alignement, for RP needs.

That is incorrect impression. There is absolutely nothing evil in increasing your saving throws. Scary name is not enough for it to qualify as evil.

It is a bad idea to define invocations by alignment, because what your character picks depends on your character and source of power.

The one that is definitely evil is "dead walk" which creates undead. The rest are arguable.

Additional details:

From arcane spells even avasculate (remove half hitpoints) and enervation (level drain) do not have "evil" descriptor.

I've checked out all warlock invocations from bgtscc and oc:
Hidden: show
Eldritch Spear
Hideous Blow
Draining Blast
Frightful Blast
Beguiling Influence
Dark One's Own Luck
Darkness
Devil's Sight
Entropic Warding
Leaps and Bounds
Otherworldly Whispers
See the Unseen
Eldritch Chain
Beshadowed Blast
Brimstone Blast
Hellrime Blast
Charm
Curse of Despair
Dread Seizure
Flee the Scene
The Dead Walk
Voracious Dispelling
Walk Unseen
Eldritch Cone
Bewitching Blast
Hindering Blast
Noxious Blast
Vitriolic Blast
Chilling Tentacles
Devour Magic
Tenacious Plague
Wall of Perilous Flame
Eldritch Doom
Binding Blast
Utterdark Blast
Dark Foresight
Retributive Invisibility
Word of Changing

Caustic Web
Dark Foresight
Dark Premonition
Frightful Presence
Hellspawned Grace
Ignore the Pyre
Instill Vulnerability
Path of Shadow
Repelling Blast
Tempest Blast
Undead Baneful Blast
The ones that are obviously evil are "Dead Walk", "Summon Baatezu" ability (hellfire warlock), epic spell "Epic Gate" (assuming you get balor and not angel).

Some are arguable, but none of them are outright evil. What matters is what you do with those powers of yours.

Any spell that summons a fiend is also objectively evil.

Warlocks do not have any invocations that summon fiends. None.

The only exceptions are
1. Summon Baatezu Ability (not invocation) granted to hellfire warlock prc. That ability was homebrewed by obsidian, and it is not present in PnP
2. Epic Gate epic spell. (also not invocation).
3. Messing with planar binding scrolls.

That is it. However, no warlock invocation allows you to summon a fiend. You have two polymorph invocations, but that's it. No actual fiend summoning.
