Retreat Down the Korred Hole.

The plan was to draw out their wizards and mages away from the safety of the Blackened Blade stronghold to strike at them, weakening their forces. To trick them with magic that the raid had been a success, that Doron was sacked and aflame. Once the forces were gathered, the plans of the attack were carefully laid, details gone over and assignments given out.

Image

Unfortunately, all it takes is one exploding wagon, or rather... four exploding wagons and your carefully laid plans are set aside as you fight for your life. Arrows flew through the deep fog as the last echoes of a horrible spell sound off in the distance. Steel rings out against steel in the chaos. The smoke and the fire of the destroyed wagons transform the battlefield, threatening to burn and steal the air out of lungs. Flashes of magic in the distance as more and more of the enemy teleports in, breaking from the forest. They were scattered as yells of retreat and fall back from familiar voices sound in the distance.

Image

With all haste they fled through the forest as the darkness engulfs them. A narrow opening into the earth is found, fairly concealed and easily defendable. It will have to do, they cannot all run forever.

Image

Piled within, a small form moves in the darkness in the back of the cave, threatening their quietude. Calmly they approach and so it moves forward on goat legs, this gnome like creature. A deal is offered for this was their home, they must offer a sacrifice to join them and rest within. So then they gave, some willingly, some not so much, but either way among those polished pillars did they find rest.

Stronghold

Ivae'ess was growing increasingly wary and drawing close to death, having been separated from her moonblade for so long. The leadership in Doron Amar knew this, so their allies were gathered and a war party formed. Into the Sharp Teeth they went, to once and for all end the threat of the Blackened Blade against Doron Amar and reclaim the previous moonblade to save Ivae'ess.

Image

The journey was long, travelling across the Sharp Teeth, but the forward scouts soon initiated a halt, spotting humanoid tracks alot earlier than expected, only half way through the Forest. They were heavy set and going in all directions. The group rallied and move forward to investigate, finding a patrol of the Blackened Blade completely annihilated and left for dead in a small clearing within the wood. It was not long before thier skilled ears soon heard movement as more of their enemy emerged from the wood, more fleeing than attacking, straight into the war party. The battle was fierce but quick, their enemy dispatched.

Image

Onward they travelled until yet again the forward scouts stopped them, hearing combat just in the distance. Keen eyes spotted the flight of arrows taking down more of their enemy, and the distant form retreating back into the wood. Keen ears could hear htem, circling around and moving ahead of them quickly, but they were gone as fast as they arrived. In the clearing again, more of the enemy had been drawn out and removed with precision.

Finally they broke the treeline and entered the abandoned farmlands. The plan was simple, a stealth force to position and scout and a frontal assault. Yet when they viewed the battlefield, the chaos of it was evident. Smoke filled the air from burning buildings, men ran here and there, battling seemingly invisible enemies, riddled with arrows.

Image

They stuck to their plan and after a few well placed explosions and a deadly exchange of steel, the battle was over and the war party was victorious. The carnage was tremendous and the exhausted group gathered up their wounded and fallen, preparing to return with the moonblade in hand. It was then that their mysterious benefactors emerged with an even more mysterious and troubling message to the group. Upon final words, the group teleported back to Doron Amar to reunite Ivae'ess with her moonblade, so that she could continue her retreat to Evermeet.

Deep in the night that followed, among the carnage and rubble left behind, something emerged, disturbing the gorging of the vultures...

Tadpoles

The task seemed simple enough, fetch some tadpoles... little brain eating... mind defiling....illithid larvae... tadpoles...

Nawiel and Sussuri had brought along a third, Forsun, a strong warrior to aid them. But in the end his aid nearly cost them their lives, twice, recklessly rushing headlong into a hive of mindflayers. It cost them time and resources, though the illithid were temporarily distracted trying to feast of Forsun's brain, allowing the two the chance to regroup and plan. They painfully dispatched of the illithid that remained and decided to leave him for dead and retrieve his corpse when their mission was complete. They were tired, frustrated and running out of options.

Image

Onward the two went, deeper into the cave, trying to find their way through the maze filled with terrifying mind defiling abominations to harvest their young, to ensure their continued survival within Sshamath. The presence of these... monstrosities from the Far Realm permeated the very air they breathed... their presence ever with the two as they came to a peculiar portal. Then they heard something odd from behind them as Forsun joined them again, somehow alive. He was acting quite bewildered and hearing and seeing phantoms and ghosts of things that did not manifest themselves. How or why he was alive and how he had returned to them, he could not fathom.

Danger again came upon the drow as an ilithid entered the chamber. This time though it was different, the ilithid approached Forsun and screamed out in terror, it's four menacing tentacles whirling madly as it gazed upon him. It bellowed that Forsun was tainted and soon spun around to flee, running wildly from the room. The other ilithid in the hive seemed to detect the difference now as none dared come near the group. It was only then that something more powerful awoke within the hive to their presence. There was a sudden charge in the air as it started to thicken, forming a thick dense fog all around the group.

Image

When the fog finally dissipated, there they stood before elder brain, tentacles flailing madly at the presence of Forsun, brain golems approaching the three from the side. Repeatedly, the brain golems instructed Forsun and in proxy the others to leave the hive. Not heeding their warning, the Elder Brain eventually itself made it's presence known, stripping the three of their wards and cloaking them with a sudden, debilitating fear. It again told them to leave the hive, that the marked one disrupts the harmony of the hive. Quickly, Sussari scooped out some of the tadpoles, pouring them into a container before the Elder Brain again brought the terrifying fog to surround them.

They were within the fog for what seemed like an eternity, though truly it was only a few moments. Nightmare after nightmare manifested in the fog, assaulting their minds. When the fog finally lifted, they found themselves at the edge of Sshamath's wards protecting the city. One of the Master's messengers came then soon after, instructing them to come to the School, that their presence was beckoned and to bring Forsun.

Image

At the school in Sshamath, the Master meet them in his study. The tadpoles were turned over to him when he noticed a curious thing, that even within the container they would move away from Forsun. Slowly but methodically, the master stalked around Forsun examining this phenomenon. Intrigued and quite fortunate for Forsun, he thought he could still be yet useful.

The Master explained their next task as he took out one rather large illithid larvae, putting it into a vial filled with brain matter. They were instructed to follow a patrol and insert it into the marked one. Nawiel asked for clarification, so the Master withdrew the illithid, holding it dangerously close to her, the head of the larvae tracing the outline of her ear. Instinctively but mistakenly, Nawiel swats the illithid and the Master's hand from her ear. The Master's eyes open wide but fortunately for her... though not so fortunate for Forsun... Forsun came forward to grab the Master's arm. Forsun quickly learned the error in his ways as two longswords pierced through his torso as the Master slowly peeled Forsun's hand from his arm. More guards rushed into the room and with a look at the other two, the Master nods to the guards who proceed to beat Forsun to an inch of his life. Considering it a warning and a show of his mercy, he allows Forsun to live and dismisses the three to leave, Forsun being dragged out of the School.

The group carry forward to finish their task for the Master, tracking the patrol who was only minutes ahead of them through Varalla's until they come across the peculiar sight. The patrol lay dead asleep in the caverns, with the intended victim sprawled face down with a large "X" marked on the cloak. With much heartache and hesitation, the illithid larvae was inserted.

Sacrifice

The sounds of merriment, gossip, music and blood curdling screams echo'd through Sshamath as the Conclave sponsored sacrificial festivities were underway at the Temple. Numerous monster slaves were paraded to the Spider Queen's altar, being brutally beaten then sacrificed.

Image

After some time the spectators were brought before a larger altar and a stage, where numerous sacrifices were being held in parallel, with the guest of honor, a longtime betrayer to Sshamath, brought out to Bel'iira Sshamath. During the proceedings, a non-drow managed to slip within the Temple, upsetting the Lolthites though Bel'iira did not notice being occupied at the front. A heated confrontation was initiated, much to the bordem of the Master of Conjuration, Urlryn Khalazza. Eventually Urlryn offered to "help" Bel'iira, snapping his fingers. Moments later the drow guest of honor, as well as a few of the bugbears up on the stage, had their faces explod into a mass of tenticles.

Image

Bel'iira screamed out in rage as her most valuable sacrifice to Lolth was turned into an illithid. The newly formed illithid's tenticles swirled around as it processed it's surroundings soon met the red hot burning rage of Bel'iira and the other Yathrin, joined by those watching. During the sacrifices, the Master of Conjuration took his leave with a smirk. After it was over the confrontation between the Lolthites flaired back to life reaching a near violent pitch before the Wards of the city flaired to life. The scene finally diffused as a screaming Bel'iira demanded everyone to leave the building.
/// Just a note, mechanically the illithid did attack but I retconned it to them not attacking as the AI broke on me and they should have never been able to (by means of wards and their immature state / not having powers). In the chaos I am not sure everyone saw that from me. Feel free to PM me for any clarification.

The Misadventures of the Fluazifop and the Hardly Floatsum!
Chapter One: Trolling for Treasure!

Image
Captain Fluazifop's Log on the Hardly Floatsum:

1 Kythorn 1349
Brought he ship in to Orlumbor to be repaired after the whole Kraken incident near Ulgoth's Beard. Going to purchase a Lantan made "Dekrakenator". Oola thinks im getting ripped off but I think that should keep the krakens from damaging my ship anymore! I have to protect the Floatsum!

1 Flamerule 1349
Dekrakenator still not here. I suppose Lantan is a long ways away. Some of the crew have left.

1 Elesias 1349
Dekrakenator still not here. More crew gone. Doing small jobs around Orlumbor to keep income. Really need to find a lead!

1 Eleint 1349
The dekrakenator is finally here but there was some problems getting it set up! Apparently they need to make some modifications. Oola wasn't entirely convicined it was what they claim it was, she just called it a "really expensive wooden bear totem". I also found a lead! A troll and some goblins have been working together to gather treasure from shipwrecks that wash up to shore on a small island off the Coast! If we can ever get this dekrakenator installed and get to Baldur's Gate, then we can get some new crew. I can't convince anyone here to work for me for some reason!

1 Marpenoth 1349
The dekrakenator is finally installed! Unfortunately when I was testing it out, I accidentally shot Oola through the arm with it. I really don't want to unhook her from the mast, she's going to be so upset. It was so amazing though, you could hear the gears grinding and then BOOM the harpoons came flying out of the eyes. Worth every coin! Oh I think she got unhoo *blood smear on the page and the writing ends there*

20 Marpenoth 1349
Oola is finally mending well and I had a cleric look at my head. I could put my finger right into my skull! Glad that's all mended up . We are ready to set sail to Baldur's Gate, though all the crew but Oola left me. I hired a new navigator named Timmy Two-Toes. What a neat last name. Our gold supply is running dangerously low, I hope this Troll thing works out or else I might have to sell the Hardly Floatsum! *tear stains line the page around the entry*

24 Marpenoth 1349
We are lost at sea. Timmy is a terrible navigator. Oola is upset at me again because I was so focused on the Dekrakenator that I forgot to resupply the ship with food. We may die at sea, by hunger or frying pan.

26 Marpenoth 1349
Timmy had the brilliant idea to try to fish. Then he fell overboard and was hanging off the side of the ship by his left leg. Now I see why they call him Two-Toes. For now we will try not to fish anymore.

29th Marpenoth 1349
Timmy finally came through! We are back on track and only three days out from Baldur's Gate! Food is running low. Oola is threatening to hit me with her frying pan if I don't catch some fish soon! I don't want her to split my skull again!

31st Marpenoth 1349
One day out from Baldur's Gate. Oola caught a nest of rats and fried them up. I really wish she would have removed the eyes. I can still see them looking at me when I ate them. DON'T JUDGE ME RAT!

1st Uktar 1350
WE DID IT!!! We arrived at Baldur's Gate and spread the word that we were looking to hire on a crew! A bunch of hardy adventurers showed up! Even a dwarf! I think that calmed down Oola ALOT! We had mages and fighters and more mages! It was amazing! We set sail to the island and we were attacked by a pirate ship, but they were no match for my crew! They cleaned out the pirates and we took their shinies! Delightful!

Then we moved onto the island. It would appear my information was a bit off. There wasn't a few goblin, there was an ARMY! But I fought valiantly beside my crew! Mostly... well I didn't run off... though I thought about it... repeatedly... I may have wet myself a bit when I saw the horde coming... We regrouped afterward and then we went in to kill that nasty ol' troll and take all his stuff! Treasure hunting! Yay! We did it and now I don't have to sell the Floatsum! Faerun's most renouned treasure hunter is yet successful once again!

The Heart of the Storm

The patrol headed out into the High Moor seeking out any signs of Talassian presence. Travelling to Orzogoth the group discover that the undead are restless and much destruction in the surrounding lands. From the view on top of Orzogoth they spot a nasty storm in the distance. Avoiding the perils of the burrowing worms, the group fight their way through an encounter with a dragon to the heart of the storm. There they were greeted by an odd scene.

Image

They entered the storm within the high moor. Lightning crashed overhead and thunder bellowed in it's wake. The air was thick and humid, clinging to you, stealing the breath from your lungs. Several rifts had opened in the lands devastated by the storm. From the rifts, lightning and wind rushed through. Then suddenly appeared the spectral image of a ranting mage. First one, then two, then five. Luckily the group was able to close the rifts to save the forest, dismissing these illusions in the process. Was there significance in the rambling or was it... madness?

Heading down the ant hole, they discovered quickly that goblins seem to be stirring them up, having settled into their tunnels below the farmlands. The adventurers cleared out both ant and goblin then headed back to get their reward.

On the Road to Beregost

Image

A small group of adventurers on the road to Beregost were accosted by a goblin warband travelling along the road. Shortly after, an older gentleman was travelling the road south to Beregost with a caravan full of goods he wished to sell in Amn. Quite fortunately for him, the group was able to slay the goblins and offered their aid to the man. In exchange, the older gentlemen offered a chest full of potions for their aid. They pushed through to Beregost with the wagon behind them, clearing the roads. Arriving safe, the group were rewarded and the older gentlemen set in to find an Inn for the evening.

Undigested Slime
Image

A travelling caravan took a tragic route as the well dressed merchant grew direly ill and the caravan stopped. The man exited the caravan, fell down to his knees in spasms then vomited up on deadly black ooze. THe ooze itself was alive, dissolving the man's face and killing him as everyone watched in horror. The ooze, released from it's gastro-intestinal prison struck out at the guards and then an adventurer slaughtering them before two more were able to bring it low.

The caravan was carrying gold nuggets and pottery heading north bound out of Amn. Soon tragity struck again as the assembly of adventurers were accosted by a gnoll raiding party. The pottery was smashed and the gold nuggets stolen.

In a minor victory, the broken down wagon was then dragged off by a web covered horse to the Friendly Arm Inn where it sits.

The bodies of the deceased were respectfully buried along the roadside.
