Attack of the Birds!

A pack of Terror Birds where spotted on the lions way. The neutral creatures went about hunting and eating large bugs, deer, and other creatures. Many adventures started to watch the birds curious to the nature of the animal they never seen before. However as the birds where chased around, the adventurers failed to notice signs of aggression as the birds felt more and more threatened. The 8ft birds would lash out at the followers till a young half elf attacked back. The animals attacked and where quickly killed.

One bird managed to survive after a dwarf controlled its mind, however after letting it free it lashed back in anger before another killed the animal thinking the dwarf was in danger.

A large forest fire broke out in the southern woods of Sharp Teeth. The fire proved unnatural as elemental a creatures of the fire plane hunted and spread the fire further. A group made there way to the area to investigate, only to find themselves under attack by the monsters of flame. Evereskan rangers came from the other side of the river and prevented the fire and monster from moving further, protecting both Gullykin and Doron Amar. The party of adventures and druids found the culprits next to a large portal to the plane of fire itself. Zealits of Kossuth covered in steel armor and screaming the firelords name attacked the group with powerful magics as creatures of fire filled out of the gate. Eventually the fight was won.

With many questions on there mind the group made there way to the temple of Kossuth just south of gullykin. There they met the simple minded, but faithful to Kossuth, Quintan and a priest of the firelord who cares for the temple. They learned much about Kossuth, and the many different takes on the faith. Some see fire as a healing cleansing force, some see it as a natural part of balance, others see is as a force to cleanse the world to there will. The priest stated that not one of the variations of the faith are truly right or wrong but its Kossuth's will that only the Fit of them will succeed. Quintan suggested asking the Red Wizards for more informations, as Thay has been known to support the Salamander order of Kossuth, a more destructive and power hungry order of Kossuth.

Mystra and Mirrors
Image

A mirror sat atop the Friendly Arms inn as the eccentric "Mirror Master" stood in the court yard seeking aid. The elf Celestia and the Tiefling Raven where the first to hear the man out. He claimed he had a quest for Mystra, that involves breaking into a tomb and putting a spellbook in it. Such practices are often carried out by faithful of Mystra to spread magic. The Mirror Master promised to take them by the mirror plane to the location.

Celestia and Raven set out to gather a team together, and before long they set out into the Mirror plane. Inside a long hallway of Mirrors the Master rushed them forward, in case a mirror version of themselves found and tried to kill them. A few Mirrors later they found the tomb. The Mirror master told them he disliked undead and they have to move forward on there own, handing the spellbook to Celestia to deliver. Upon touching the spellbook she could feel a warmth and kindness from it. The road though the tomb was filled with undead but the party had little trouble.

It was not till the end of the ruins where they faced the Lich did things become more complicated. Celestia grow unsure if placing the book in this tomb was the right course of action. The group was unsure as well, and a debate took place. It was then that a white bearded old man with an energy glow to him walked over to Celestia to calm her mind. Celestia, who has been questioning herself for some time now, keeled to the man immediately having no doubt to his identity. The kind old man, who was more then a man, calmed the follower of Mystra's mind. He told her that she was watched by many gods and should take pride in herself. He spoke that one day someone seeking a lichs power will find that spellbook, and his path will be set down a different path. However for any of that to happen, Celestia had to make her own chose.

Image

The spellbook was left in the tomb, and the party made there way back to the mirror master. The strange mage was a bit surprised that the party survived and completed the task, but was happy to take them home. He revealed to the party that the mission in fact came to him in a dream, and when mention of Azuth was made he rushed back to the tombs. Shoving a reward for the mission into Raven's hand.

Rat Games
Image
Berogost was up in arms over attacks from the south. An army of Xvarts with Wererats leading them where laying siege upon the village. Adventurers gathered with the guard in hopes of aiding. The group did a decent job of holding off several waves of attacks.

Meanwhile Bobetta Black and Drahano traveled north from Nashkel, running into the back side of the xvarts and wererats. Both sides managed to push forward till they met up in front of the xvart village. They entered the village and hunted many of the xvarts and the spirt bear that lived there. They also faught a number of strong wererats who had allied with them. Mangeing to capture one such wererat they earned some answers to what was going on. The xvarts worshiped the wererats who had travled all the way from Baldurs gate where they lived in the sewers. It seemed the shapshifters feared pure blooded wererats who where born with the curse. They wished to hide from the pureblooded, and used the xvarts to try to gain a comfortable life. When the group returned to Berogost there was a bucktoothed man named Rodger who was happy to hear about the deaths of the rats, he called trash. He spoke to a few in secret before wondering off.

The priest of Lathander called adventures to Berogost to carry out a holy quest. He sat them all down and told them a story. In the small town of Lenore the citizens started to become sick one after the other. They grow paler and weaker and die with in a few days. After a local priests study it was suggested the answer may lye in the graveyard. Graves where dug up, and tombs where broken into. In one such tomb laid a young woman. Despite a hundred years of age, she had not rotted. Her skin was cold to the touch, but her cheeks still had a rosey color to them. Blood dripped from the lips of this sleeping woman, it was then the citizens fled the town to find someplace "More Holy" to live. Over the course of a year the town was transformed from a ghost town, to a town of undeath.

The team was dispatched, they where lead by a man named Bram who showed them the way to Lenore. Departing early to avoid any danger. Along the road they where attacked by a number of beasts, bandits and one oddly strong troll. Despite the trouble the party moved forward and found the small town.

The empty streets of Lenore and its empty houses and alleys all hid the danger of this tainted town. Once the party entered the town they where ambushed by undeath at every turn. Zombies and ghosts moved out of the alleyways and empty streets all attempting to kill the visitors. The party pressed on, makeing there way to a large temple at the end of town. Guarded by a large White Wolf, with red eyes. The party slayed the temple guardion with ease.

Once inside the temple, vampires moved quickly to slay the intruders. The party had to navigate the trap filled halls while fending off the undead. At the end of one such hall a Demi Lich tried to force them to stop. He held only for moments longer then the other undead. At the end of the temple they found the Vampire queen. Her throne dripped of blood, and altar poured the red liquid like wine out of a fountain. The queen greeted the visitors much like her minions and attacked, summoning a Balar to aid in her battle. Vampire bats swarmed on the party to nuisance them while fighting the queen. Despite this all, and a long battle, the queen was defeated.

The party then destroyed the altar of blood and seeked the vampires coffin. After a bit of searching they found it, and a spear of great vampiric power. The spear held the phylactery of the lich fought earlier. The paladin Arkaine destroyed the phylactery with his great strength, draining much of the spears power. A job well done the party teleported back to berogost and reported to the priest what had happened.

Notes- Was reading Bram Stocker's Guest of Dracula before this event. Giveing me the inspiration for it, and the White Wolf.

The town was clearly named after Edger Allen Poe's Lenore. Some of the undead spoke lines from it.

Whose who of the New Shadow Druids-

Ru'arc -
Image
Status - Deceased
Class-Druid

Ru'arc was the hot blooded member of the shadow druids. He was the most recent addition to the team. He felt the renewing life of fire was needed to restore the land to its former glory. Feeling that the Druids of the local circles were not proactive he joined the Shadow Druids. He was rash and prideful, unbecoming traits for a druid. He was slain after an attempt to destroy the campfire near the FAI inn by the Half-orc paladin after refusing to turn himself in.

Sherif-
Image
Status-Alive
Class-Ranger

Sherif is a wood elf ranger from the south. He has witnessed the evils of men, and the destruction of nature. Perhaps the most vengeful of the New Shadow Druids he feels that a war is coming and is readying for it. He claims his prayers to the gods and the woods have led him to Lady Lina and her group.

Ennis-
Image
Status-Killed by shadows atop the FAI
Class- Druid

An aasimar, Ennis is both wise and honest. While holding no grudge against any of the Druid circles or even civilization he joined the Shadow Druids out of a wish to protect Lady Lina. He can remain calm and collect even while in battle with any that would hurt the forest. He claims that Lady Lina has powerful fey blood that allows her to charm any around her, stating that he met her when she managed to pass his will and charm him. While not done on purpose the power was of great interest to Ennis and grow attached to the young druid while watching her.

Ailis-
Image
Status- Killed by Lina
An old Dryad that lives in Cloakwood. Not much is known about this Dryad but she seems to be a mother figure to Lina. She tends to talk to others much like a mother and seems to be training the young and powerful leader of the Shadow Druids.

Lina-
Image
Status- Turned into a vampire, coffin was later found and she was killed.
Class- Druid
Young and powerful are the two most words that describe the leader of the New Shadow Druids. Lina is speculated to be the grandchild of an Archfey. Her powers have proven that she holds strong magical blood. Seeing the elder Druids in circles as bench sitters she formed the New Shadow Druids to create a more proactive force. Hoping that one day, perhaps in the far future, that the sword coast will once again be one large forest. With temper easy to change, and powers she not fully understands or can control its early to say if Lina will be a force for good or ill on the sword coast.

The Butcher-
Image

James Norton called for the aid of some hunters to track and kill a criminal and murderer who ran from the fist to Amn. After insulting the party for a bit he gave them a drawing of the man and told them who he was. Jason Myers worked as a Butcher in the city. His prices were always cheap, and he often sold to the poorest of commoners. It was not till a noble happened to try some of his meat and noticed an odd taste that anything was suspect. Unlike the commoners the noble know the taste of beef and pork well, but he could not place the meat. When Jason refused to answer his questions on the matter he informed the Fist. The Fist have had missing person reports from the area and started to put two and two together. Investigating the butchers home revealed that his meat was in fact human. Further investigation revealed that Jason had been working as a corpse disposal for thieves, rouges, and assassins. Turning body's they wished to vanish into meat for the poor. On occasion the man often took it into his own hands to find a beggar and bring him into his shop.

A passing wizard using the drawing was able to scry the Butcher heading south over the bridge near Berogost. Teleporting to the town, they were stooped by a Crowled Wizard. While under question they had no way of knowing the Butcher was already passing around them. They moved forward north to the bridge, failing to question any of the townsfolk or the guards. At the bridge they ran into Jessie, James, and their cat familiar seeking tolls. The party failed again to question the bandits on any traffic past the bridge, instead forcing the bandits to flee for there lives. Now out of clues the party searched the trade way north of Berogost for what seemed like ages. Any scents or tracks lost in the traffic of the road. By the time they moved to the coast south of candlekeep they had no idea that the Butcher was already gaining a new identity in Nashkel with the help of the bandits and assassins he kept as clients. After a while more of searching for clues, the trail grow cold and they were forced to give up.

From the sea

Image

Ulgoth's Beard was under attack. Dozen of Fishmen climbing out of the sea seeking blood. Adventurers from all over came to defend the small town. Many kinds of sea creatures joined the fight. After some time peace returned, however there was a causality. A fisherman lay near the Lighthouse, stabs and cuts covering his body yet no blood remained. He held a small Green Soapstone. Ancient in age, and full of power. Doppelgangers reviled themselves seeking the object, yet were slain. Some investigation proved the dead man was called Frank. His wife told that he found the object in the sea while fishing. It was not long before he started to feed it. Blood from Fish, then himself, and one night he tried to take her blood. The elf who found the stone, Zelphar, saw visions of it digging into him, trying to drain him dry. He gave it over to the Druid Ivan.

Ivan and a few other traveled to the Island of the Sahuagin hoping to find answers. Finding Kuo-toa and a group of Sahuagin fighting there kin. Soon the fishmen started to prey in an unknown language, Ivan decided to approach them. At first none would speak common to him, but they all showed signs of greed for the Green Soapstone. A mage soon spoke out. He spoke with distaste in his mouth at the presence of elves in the party, leaveing only hints in words like elder creatures, and old ones. He said the sea-elves called them Iquar'Tel'Quessir. Old and powerful they claimed the stone was of them, and it calls to their children. Ivan asked the Sahuagin what they would do with the stone if they had it, yet the mage seemed honestly confused at the question as if he never thought of if. Before long greed refused to stand still and the fishmen attacked, shortly being slain. Vudish a half-orc with the party wanted to destroy the stone by burning it, Ivan however refused to give it up. He handed the item to Catam who ran.

From the Sea part 2

Image

Attacks from the sea were growing frequent. First Reader of Candlkeep Tethtoril once again contacted the Druid Ivan. It was not long ago that the reader studied the stone with an aged and wise member of the Storm Giants. Now was the time for their plan to take place. The stone would open a portal to the abyss on its location, so they would send the stone to the abyss to render such a feat useless. To do so they have to travel deep under the sea to ancient home of the Batrachi, where they gave sacrifices to their god.

Joining Ivan was the rouge like Sparrow, the rapier wielding Endelyon, the faithful Berea, and Catam the ranger. Fighting wave after wave of fishermen together they ventured the deeps. Magic keeping their lungs full of air and the pressure from crushing them. Sea Trolls proved most difficult for the party, the trolls having no fear of fire under the sea. Catam nearly lost his life to the battle but the party prevailed. The sights they saw were like another world to them. Ruins built on top of ruins built on top of ruins. A pattern lasting millennia.

After slaying a fishmen Warlock the party found the altar they were looking for. The feat of opening a one way portal to the abyss demanded blood, blood of one of the creator races children. The party cringed at this duty, such a deed was unlike them, but it must be done. They dragged the warlock, cut his head off and placed him on the altar. The misty clouds of blood were sucked into the altar as a giant rift opened behind it. A gaping maw, a hungry maw. The Greensoap stone was thrown into it, but the portal did not close. It stood open wide, like gluttony given form. After many trys at satisfying its hunger Sparrow destroyed the altar closing the portal once and for all.

The sea was calm, the sight breathtaking. As the party left the sea they walked right into and through a peaceful water elemental. A peaceful end to a violent adventure. Tethtroil stood near his portal by the sea in a trance. As the party arrived an old bearded hawk-noised wizard gave a smile to his friend and left, perhaps protecting him in his trance. Tethtroil thanked the party and spoke of the legend of what became of the Batrachi god. Once a powerful god and fierce foe of the giants and their gods. Now he simply lies in the abyss mouth wide open. The demons feed him by throwing souls into his gaping maw. A god older then most others, now a god of gluttony committing slow suicide.

The Bandits Jessie and James were seen hiding on the Lion's Way as a large Black Dragon flow above them. They had stolen ten Diamond's from the Dragon Nihonon. At first the two denied having them to the adventurous that found them but before long the it was not hard to put two and two together. The Black Dragon found the group and forced them to submit. Nine of the diamond's were returned to the dragon before he forced members of the group to fight each other for his amusement. Nihonon then flew off somewhere to the north while Jessie and James quickly made a retreat.

Ice Priestess

Image

The Xvart village suddenly became very cold as Ice Elementals attacked the small Xvarts. A group in the area watched curiously before one of the elementals attacked them. After defeating it a Half-White Dragon woman set up an altar upon the edge of the village. She showed shock at finding anything other then Xvarts in the area and apologized for the elemental attack. Snow and Ice grow over the area as the Ice Priestess explained with glee that she wished to rule over the Xvarts as there new queen and convert them all to Auril. One member, Sathanus Vomsarg, a follower of Auril himself gave word of support to the eccentric woman while the rest of the party saw the woman as horrible. The follower of Chauntra, Edmund, in particular was horrified.

After much words, the party grow tired of the woman flaunting her power and showing her sadistic nature. They destroyed her altar. The Priestess gave her name, Ashlan, to her supporter before giving him an Icy blade. As she left she ordered her Ice elemental to attack the party. The elemental were defeated and they chased Sathanus off. The party then had to face the wraith of angry Xvarts who blamed them for the Ice. Soon the party broke up to rest, unsure what happened to Ashlan the Ice Priestess. Vomsarg tended his wounds waiting for his revenge unaware of any price that blade he was given may have.
