A letter is delivered to numerous goodly temples in Baldur's Gate by a faithful Templar of the Morninglord. It is an open letter, left for those of the faithful who frequent them.
Faithful, and goodly people of the Coast;

Many of you already know about the undead threat to the North. Of new undead monstrosities in the depths of the Vaults on the Fields of the Dead, dark curses, nesting evils extending tendrils to the living.

All true. All a matter which calls the righteous.

Yet events reach a critical point in the village of Kheldrivver. An undead horde issuing forth from a ruined Netherese city in the north remains encamped in the village, and its people now live in dire and urgent threat of death, hidden in terror in their homes. We cannot say what the undead who now hold the outskirts of the village seek; we can say that they have the power to extinguish all the lives in that place. Or if not them, another of the lichs from that ruined city, of which dire warnings have been given by Lathander and a host of other deities.

We must act.

If Kheldrivver is to become a battleground again, the people there must be saved. We must save them from being caught up in this war between the living and the dead. If Kheldrivver is to be the anvil of war, they must be brought to safety first. And we call upon all of you for aid in this.

What is currently proposed is that mages are contacted in order to arrange teleportation circles, which will allow for a large movement of people from Kheldrivver back to a safe place. Current thought is Baldur's Gate, where aid can be provided by way of alms by the goodly temples. Donations in this regard would be welcome.

The fear is that when the people leave their hiding places to be teleported, the undead may try and slay them, or those mages who will empower the circles.

It is here we can make a difference.

We call upon your aid in forming an impenetrable shield, standing between the evacuating citizens and the undead - and if the undead should try and stop the evacuation, holding the line.

And once the people are safe, aid in a less glorious task, providing food, clothing and coin to allow the collected Temples of Baldur's Gate to provide healing, support and sustenance to the refugees.

It sounds a simple task. If we are opposed, it will not be. But it must be done. With your aide, it can be done - innocent lives can be saved.

Join us, and let us show the risen dead what the living can do, united in hearts and common purpose!

*scribbles on the bottom of Eldarian's note*

Our scouts report that the undead return to the warlocks crypt, leaving Kheeldriver. They returned with whatever they were interested in underneath the town of kheeldriver. The town of Kheeldriver is no longer under direct threat by animated undead. Smoke has been seen issuing from the excavation under kheeldriver. The people of Kheel driver seem to be suffering from some sort of sickness, perhaps from undead contamination in the soil, perhaps in the excavation under the town.

Rather then teleporting them out and spreading the sickness, I would suggest helping them deal with whatever taint remains.

Rumors of two men in upper-echelon clothing conversing and conducting an interview at the Blade & Stars Inn over the creation of a newspaper and one later being hired as Co-editor and leading the Comic section for The Tribune.

Also, unrelenting rumors from a merchant named Edward Drath have been inhabiting people's eardrums for half a week now... that Valiant the Mad is dead.

The temple of Torm was visited by a young Squire, shortly after met by her mentor. Emotion seemed high, joyfilled, prideful, yet sincere as they spoke of faith and duty. The Knight and Squire were seen praying before the statue of Torm before retiring to the benches to speak. The Knight did not leave her Squires side until long into the evening after meditation and a visit by their comrade Reine. As the night grew dark a meal, blanket, and journal is brought to Eleanor by her mentor, supplies for her nights stay at the temple. Her mentor did not stay long the second time, leaving her Squire to her thoughts.

Over the past tendays those who know Sveta well would note that the sternness of her features is quicker to fade, emotion more readily shown. Her smiles seem to hold more warmth, her demeanor more often than not prideful. Some may begin to wonder why she once held them suppressed.

The streets gradually pooled with people itching to obtain a better view of the spectacle before them. The cheers, boisterous and vibrant, oozing with life, could be heard twelve carts down a faith of merchants bargaining their wares with civilians and passersby. The cluster seemed to have grown large enough until they, too, ceased their activities to investigate just what, or who, had riled the crowd right outside the soup kitchen to such an extent.

It seems a particular bard's performance was enough to deter the unrest which had continued to swell following the aftermath of the plague, well, for the moment anyway. Politics, as well as talks of the undead threat looming from the north had a tendency to do just that.

A female Ilmateri has begun to make regular visits to the docks, carrying a small sign upon which is scribbled "HEALING" and a bowl of fruit. She also seems to take an interest in visiting the city's unfortunate directly and has begun making enquiries with various unfortunates, intent on getting deeper into the local underground politics

Rumor has it that, near the docks...a half-of-a-man gave a more-than-a-man performance of flute...versus the infamous Drummer of the Undulating Beat.

Though the drummer kept his performance at a high skill, it was noticed that the flutist was given an eye of respect, for being in possession of such...willful luck.

Some say...it was just the beginning of such contest, between performers....

Talisen has recently been seen visiting with the rat catchers and sewer workers of Baldur's Gate, questioning them of the situation therein.

Word would spread through the docks that the Ilmateri cook named Reine has begun to take over the organisation of the soup kitchen directly, over from the Lady Watchknight. Turning up at least three evenings a week dressed in her usual linen, the woman seems to have harder lines and a much more confident and chatty demeanour than in recent weeks.

She seeks the unemployed, particularly widows and heavy bound dock workers with a good reputation. It is rumoured there are part time jobs available at the kitchen and while the pay is meagre, the food is good.

The same elf could be seen departing the Helm and Cloak and walking with purpose. As he walked, passerby would notice his clothing slowly dissolve and transmute into brilliant mithril chainmail. He walks with a purpose, eyes ahead, ignoring the citizens as he heads to the shop known as Sorcerous Sundries. He remained there for a while, before making his way to Ragefast's Tower with the same speed and spending some time there as well.

Curious inquiries behind him would find that the Elf is seeking information on known users of the Art.

The Head Watchknight, joined by her Squire, the Doombringer Cormis and Talisen approach the Flaming Fist Headquarters all seeming exhausted, beat up, and smelling very poorly of a mixture of blood and sewer water. Despite this the Head Watchknight musters what grace she can and approaches the officers present speaking with her usual formal rigidity.

"Hail, I come to report of a threat beneath the bowels of the city. In following investigation of reports of Talonite activity my band led trails deep into the sewers into a cave systems linked into the main sewers through cracks in the sewers stone work.

Within these caves we found mutated, aggressive rats. They ranged in sizes of standard sewer rats to rats the size of a bull, however the majority were of the size of a small halfling. Some had multiple heads, others had developed the ability to stand on their hind legs. Their numbers were overwhelming, after many tiresome battles of near endless swarms of the rats we were driven out, nearly losing our lives in the process.

I would advise action be taken against these rats. While we may have culled down many hundreds of their kind we know how rats breed. It was our belief that we drew near their nest before our retreat. They are strong in their numbers. I am not sure meeting this threat with a head on approach would be advisable given the looming threat to the north we should not make such a risk of manpower at present. For now, the cracks in the stonework should at least be sealed.

Helm's guidance."

If there were no questions Sveta would bow and depart seeming to make great haste in her strides towards the bath awaiting her at her residence. A small smirk forms on her lips as she thinks Captain Raman being ordered to lower his pride into the sewers to deal with the mutated rat infestation. To muster the courage to get things done. But such was a childish thought, and one as quickly dismissed as it rose.

It is rumoured that in response to the rats, the Ilmateri who wanders has begun to make daily forays into the sewers to try and corral people into coming to the soup kitchen for health checks. She is frequently attacked, but seems to be trying to avoid combat if she can.

A gnome and an elf confer over a mug of ale in one of the taverns of the Gate. The elf could have been heard inquiring about a notice on a bulletin board just before sitting down with the gnome.
The same elf can be seen back in the Helm and Cloak Tavern, once again seeking the Mage Chambordin. After scanning the faces of the tavern patrons with no luck, he writes a note and directs the barkeep to deliver it only to the gnome mage.

Somewhere in a secluded area of the Docks a lone shadow stirs.
Hooded head snapping left towards the Blushing Mermaid.
Shrouded eyes narrowing at the all too familiar throb of the mans music emanating from within.

For long moments the shadow listens on, each passing verse causing his black mask to further crinkle.

A flurry of hand movement from the shadowed figure now towards a nearby rooftop.
And a series of hand signals to follow that travel across the Docks.

The lone shadow waits, and he watches. Narrowed eyes fixated to linger upon the door to the Blushing Mermaid.

A message is posted upon the people's announcement board, located in Baldur's Gate. It reads:
  • The Company of Coast Way Adventurers seeks to employ a bard of fair talents, a poet, a lyricist, that may put adventures to songs...that which would spread word of the Company. Odilon the Guardian can be contacted for servicing this contract. He to be found in the Elfsong Tavern.
As J.G. Ballard has said, "It's a mistake to hold back and refuse to accept one's own nature."
