Such major new changes are a pain in the ass IMO. I shall say no more on the matter.
Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about it

With the magic replacement system you can have as many spells as you want. It fixes the server crash if someone execeeds 255 spells.Lockonnow wrote:well we a not alow to have more spells then to level 9 right

Re: BG Content Expansion (poll until Oct 7th)
I had plans to include level 10 for epic spells, but I haven't had the time to add that in. There were also some QC concerns with it that I'd have to think about. And in any case it is contingent on the spell replacement system being used.Lockonnow wrote:yes but we still not alow more then up to lvl 9 it dose show up to lvl 10 right

Re: BG Content Expansion (poll until Oct 7th)
Sweeping changes can have cataclysmic consequences (See Star Wars Galaxies and the "combat upgrade"). I am fine with small, incremental changes to address existing issues, but a single, sweeping update that completely changes the existing world in such a drastic way? That's a good way to alienate players and introduce serious bugs into a server that already has an "alienating players" issue. If it is going to be implemented, it should be done bit by bit and with rigorous testing and feedback along the way.

We're not talking about a sudden big update. When the content train gets going it will be incremental, starting with the light-darkness, and then potentially the combat modules. Or perhaps first a bunch of fixes.Torgerias wrote:Sweeping changes can have cataclysmic consequences (See Star Wars Galaxies and the "combat upgrade"). This. I am worried that there won't be enough follow-up to troubleshoot all the bugs, and we'll be left with faulty mechanics that will never be totally fixed.mrm3ntalist wrote:2. Its a new system and even though many hours of testing have been put on it, I am sure there will be more bugs with it

I still wonder what Luna thinks. There have been plenty of moments to add fixes and/or new content in the last 2+ years, but that has not occurred. I find it questionable to talk about adding even newer content without the Head Admin of the Server giving their support.Charraj wrote:This. Re: BG Content Expansion (poll until Oct 7th)
fixing and updating some long awaited bugs and tweaks i think would do the server better than adding to an already long list
tested or not there are things that simply go unnoticed until a system is actually live, and then it gets added to the list and lost in the void

The problem is we are already in this position.Charraj wrote:This. NWN2 isn't a supported game with patches on the horizon. And there are a bunch of bugs with the stock magic system, such as crashes when someone has too many spells, spell slots which duplicate on login (or disappear), casterlevels can't be modified, new spellbooks couldn't be added (such as assassin / BG so Obsidian did a work-around with feats), dispel magic is hardcoded to use character hitdie instead of casterlevel, etc..
If we want to be able to update things we need to have access to the code: which we don't have, and won't get in the foreseeable future. Obsidian has repeatedly turned down requests for the source-code, saying they're looking to either sell it or make a new game with it.
The Magic replacement system offers us the ability to change and fix whatever we want in the magic system. The only downside it really has is that you can't get spells on the hotbar with their names & icons. You have to link them with numbered feats and remember which number is the spell you want, sort of like remembering in which pouch the right spell-component is.
The bugs can be sorted out... unlike the stock magic system because we can't touch it. We're really stuck with that.
[Edit] Anyway, I am not trying to push this. I didn't develop these things specifically for BGTSCC. They are intended for the NWN2 community, I wanted to give this server first dibs because a lot of folks here helped test and develop it with me.
Luna asked whether the magic replacement system could be implemented without messing up existing characters, and whether it could be easily reverted.Steve wrote:I still wonder what Luna thinks. The answer to both questions is Yes. It doesn't mess up anything, that's why I call it a system-extension. And its easy to revert, it could just be taken down from a server if it causes too many issues, and then the stock magic system will pick up where things were left off.

I'm all for it.
I don't even know what it is.
If it can be pulled, then implement it. If it fails, Oh well.
I'd like to see less speed uphills, and more speed downhills.
