Lol, ok no extra invocations... what about a few new ones?
So obviously extra invocations are out lol. How about a few new custom ones to add a little more variety to the class. There are already several but some more would be nice... extra options are always good.
I had a few ideas for some custom ones which I will list.
(Harmonic Blast): EB modified to do sonic damage and deafens/or stuns those who fail their save.
(Fell Translocation): Can use teleport as the spell.
(Aura of Terror): Create an aura which causes those who fail their save to become frightened and flee from the caster.
(Raise the Devil): Summon a fiend for a limited amount of time.
(Suffer the Children): Conjure an illusionary and seemingly real child that can be used as a hostage should the caster be cornered.
(Enslave the Mind): Use Dominate Monster as the spell.

I don't know about you but I literally have zero invocations to spare. Adding more would only make the lack of extra invocations more apparent. What warlock really needs is high CHA to give more invocations, more pre-epic single target damage, less epic AoE damage(via repelling blast) and less tankiness.
That's just my experience with my 26 warlock.

Re: Lol, ok no extra invocations... what about a few new one
warlocks already have a stun, no reason to add a second when you are already extremely limited
they were given dark transient as a feat, epic maybe?, which lets them teleport, it being a feat means you dont have to waste an invocation
while not an aura they do already have a fear invocation
hellfire gets a summon, tho yes it has the same problem as any other summon being weak and not a general warlock summon but you can easily take hellfire at no "penalty"
mobs arent gonna care about some kid they would just kill it too... if you want a decoy then any summon would do the same thing
dominate monster/person actually wouldnt be bad, tho the duration sucks (hardly a problem for a warlock tho that could just cast it over and over)
nothin wrong with adding more invocations but i would take a look at what they already get and try not to duplicate anything, again warlocks are already extremely limited do its likely anything thats a double wont get any ground

Dark Transient is a feat and doubles Flee the Scene duration and adds +1 AB..Blackman D wrote:they were given dark transient as a feat, epic maybe?, which lets them teleport, it being a feat means you dont have to waste an invocation

Warlock can easily UMD teleports anyways. They even get a bonus.

The illusionary child one was more for dealing with pvp conflict. If you have several dozen good aligned player characters ready to gut you having a hostage, especially a child might well keep them at bay and also is a delightfully evil tactic.

Re: Lol, ok no extra invocations... what about a few new one
Allright lets try this again. No abilities which mimic others, lets see...
(Harmonic Blast) is still nice even without the stun. Sonic is very rarely resisted so to have the ability to inflict it would be very powerful. Maybe make it a dark invocation so only warlocks above 17 can get it.
(Drain the Blood) Can use the spell Vampiric Touch. Or maybe make it a short range ray?
More to come...

Re: Lol, ok no extra invocations... what about a few new one
I'm all for expanding horizons, but an invocation that grants temp hit points for warlocks sounds overpowering. I mean, if you could deal damage and add that damage as temp hit points unto you, in addition to other defensive invocations, you'd be unstoppable. Maybe if it dealt damage and effected you as per the false life spell? I dunno, still seems a bit much already. And for Harmonic Blast, why not make it like a small burst? Like sound burst? I mean if you were to throw a sound spell, it would typically spill off around the blast point. Or at least that's how I see sound spells in other games.

warlocks already have an invocation that gives temp hp, they get it with their devour magic whenever they dispel something to include their own invocations

Really? Huh, never liked how Devour Magic looked. Guess I should make a dummy character to take another look at that
