Why was the gargoyle loot drop removed?
The crypts are incredibly difficult unless you are a wizard/cleric with the denizens spamming AC reducing spells that stack and are irresistable as far I know. There's only 2 chests, not counting the magical one that needs a rogue and one of them is a sarcophagus which won't be looted by those not wanting to desecrate something roughly intact. The gargoyle usually dropped at least something useful other than ale steins and 5 gold pieces.
Why was it removed? Going to the crypt is not worth it with the rather powerful mummies and minimal rewards.

Just get used to it Hoihe. Here they like to punish players on loot. RP is the reward remember?

Re: Why was the gargoyle loot drop removed?
I don't know anything about it.
Though I didn't even know they were there in the first place. It's been years since I went dungeon crawling.
They could have been an accidental casualty of our database restore (we lost almost six months of table data) or our creature reorganization (we dropped redundant spawns and organized the creature tables the DMs spawn monsters and other NPCs from).
Someone else may know better, but in not sure the map was changed intentionally. Doesn't seem like it would be flagged as an exploit or balance issue, unless they were dropping crazy good loot and being farmed.

Only something like a guaranteed magic item, or almost guaranteed. Not necessarily good, just better than 50 gold and an ale stein.Maecius wrote:I don't know anything about it.

Re: Why was the gargoyle loot drop removed?
I don't see anything with just a cursory glance at the QC forums. So it may have been an accident/unintended consequence of another update. I don't think we've touched the loot tables in ages, but maybe their "mini-boss" trigger got switched off or something.
Just to confirm, other bosses are still dropping loot right?
I'll wait and see if a dev or QCer can shed more light on it.

By Ao's uncaring unemotional being, Hoihe...where have you been?!?Hoihe wrote:

Ale steins and rags have been dropping from bosses for years now. I think you simply need to consider yourself LUCKY you got good drops every time before now.

I remember when this was changed and I was not happy about it either. And Yes there used to be 2 Gargoyles that dropped something more than tanglefoot bags and rags.

Re: Why was the gargoyle loot drop removed?
As best I know, no person touched a "crypt" or any loot table in at least six months. Does this gargoyle spawn as monster, kill it then it drops loot? Or was it a lootable placeable similar to chest?
It would also be helpful to provide specific area identification. There are gobs of "crypts" in the module.

Re: Why was the gargoyle loot drop removed?
This is the Crypt area located in the fields of the dead. The gargoyle is a mini boss that spawns a guaranteed loot bag after killing it. It has been recently that the loot from it seemed way below the norm for it at one point. Either way it is rather annoying to me personally when hard challenges are met with rags, copper rings and ale. Or the infamous spoons and shurikens.

Re: Why was the gargoyle loot drop removed?
First off, I was able to solo the crypts with my old warlock. So, wizards and clerics are not all that can do it. It just takes patients with a warlock.
I remember the gargoyles. I have not seen any QC threads regarding their removal. I am always in favor of more loot opportunities and more gold sinks. I see no reason for reducing loot opportunities. The crypts are pretty tough though, and there should be some rewards. There are several low level areas that can give you several thousand gold for risking them, and higher level areas aught to provide at least a slight increase for the risk.
Maybe we can spend some time working on improving the area?

Re: Why was the gargoyle loot drop removed?
Not that big of a deal really. Annoying, yes. Firstly wizards and clerics aren't the only ones that do well there. Secondly, that place also has two loot generators that don't have a limit of two per reset. The container outside and the container inside ... Plus mummy's and priests give great xp when you are at the appropriate level!
