I feel Katana is one of the most under used weapons in the game due to a few reason:
  • I have yet to see any epic Katana, that make people think "Oh wow this Katana is so good I should make a toon just to use this!"

They require an extra feet just to use, with out much added bonus for them. More times then not Bastard swords are far better and easier to come across then Katanas.

There is no NWN2 Deity that provides Katana as a favored weapon, it can even be picked up for free by worship of a Deity, unlike Bastard sword
Please Correct me if im wrong, but is there any good Katana out there? Maybe like a +3 with +1 vamp regen and 1d4 Element damage or such. I have seen other blades like this and for requiring a feat just to used this blade at all seems like a poor trade off aside from RP reasons.

I have seen some interesting katanas out there (mostly random gen).

My retired toon Kemi was a katana wielding halfling and she had the following katanas, some acquired, some given to her:

+4 EB, +3 HP
+4 EB (cold iron)
+3 EB, On Hit: Slay Racial Group Elemental DC 14.
+3 EB (Alchemical Silver)

I have also seen one which was +4 EB, +3 Vamp regen.

If there is an Epic version of The Wave katana that might be a nice find (theoretically +4, 1d4 sonic). The lesser version is available in Beregost.

Thank you Tsidkenu, that gives me hope to find a wonderful Katana at some point for Takeo.

However if I happen to come across a Crafting event I think it would be amazing to think of Takeo Forging his own blade, ((Wish I took Craft weapon as a skill choice now.))

The most powerful item I have ever seen was +4 AC, +4 CON, +3 Fort boots. I was with the player when they found them and identified them for the person. That was one or two years ago.

I am not sure which one is my most powerful item, either my + 1d4 cold longsword or my +3 AC +3 to all saves amulet.

Probably the sword, and the amulet being that good actually means I don't really want to switch it out for a +4 AC one.

I call this stuff the 'Bling Effect'.

My UD toon has recently gone into epic lvl's and still runs round with a +3 Scimitar as his main weapon, a +4 Mace as backup. Doesn't stop him levelling, doesn't stop him RP'ing how he wants, doesn't stop me having fun.

I'm not daft, if he comes across a better Scimitar he'll use it, obviously, but I've seen people in the auction forum pay silly money for a +4 scimitar with 1d6 damage, just to have +1ab and +3.5 damage more than my +3 blade (Average, assuming target doesn't have elemental resist).

I am not saying its wrong, not in the least, if you have the gold you may as well spend it on something, hence my summing up . .

Its the 'Bling Effect'.

Rich folks have just gotta have their Bling 8-)

Ha somebody accused me of mindlessly looting. they have no idea. I rarely do any dungeon crawling. I haven't for a while.

I haev seen two epic katanas, both Of them my katana man Kudoji missed. The first one he missed because I stopped playing:

+4 EB, 24 Spell Resistance

The other he lost out in a bid war with jarvis. It was epic as well. Both were random loot generator katanas, but both players still play here, I think.

Erm if gold is useless then how does a poor player get uber items. If one has nothing valuable to trade then gold becomes the only option but if one has neither tradable items or gold how does one get anything of value?

You don't. If I walk into a shop IRL with no money and nothing to trade then I can't expect to be given anything can I? Get gold or randomly loot an epic item, then build up from there. Slow process but a pretty simple one tbh. Most players with lots of items/gold have been playing here for years.

Or you could just follow a loot grinder around and pick up things they have deemed unworthy of their inventory slots. (High strength required).

You don't make money that way. I only leave items which will get me no gold at the merchant. So have at all those burning sticks and stacks of arrows < 99.

I once entered the troll cave up in the troll claws and the floor of the entire dungeon was literally filled with troll hides and leftovers

Sorry to bump an old thread.. What was the resolution on adding epic merchants? Sounds like a great idea to me.. I've been looking for Epic, Bloodletter for 3+ years.. And so has my brother and two friends that play. I've searched forums for countless years.. Nothing. I think adding a crafting system or an epic merchant would be amazing!
I'll gladly pay millions for an epic bloodletter.
