Western Wall Defense
OOC Time: 8th January

Standing in the heart of the last true bastion of the city, her omen returned. The melody, the chords which it played, seemed terrible in her conscience. When her eyes flickered back pale blue, her face still turned to the sky. The moon's light shown in brief ray's through the circling of the un-dead carrion.

She shook her head, informing those defenders gathered near, the spirit's proclamation. One large human warrior chided that she wasn't really telling them anything new. Suddenly, her upbringing within the streets of Neverwinter and Luskan returned to her, "It also told me that you would be the first to die", she told the warrior with a wink. Her returning grin volunteered to the warrior that she was simply returning his jest.

In that moment of brevity, she felt more alive than she had since the past fort night. It had taken her nearly that long to collect herself after the last defense of this human city. Hearing the screams from the spirits of the land, and the dead, was nearly more than she could bear. Yet, here she was jesting in the face of death with this human. Then a call went out from the Fist and suddenly there was motion all around her.

The next few hours seemed more like a stream of consciousness as she now looks back on the events. Everything happening so fast, she hadn't the time to think, only to react. Calling to the Triune Goddess for aid, on came the enemy. She sang, fought, strung arrow and let fly, cursed and did smite the enemy with all of her strength. It had not seemed enough, that she were not strong enough, though she fought on.

The walls did fall, she fought on, the streets became filled with undead, she fought on, an Angel appeared only to take the form of Death itself, she fought on. She did so, not for her own sanctity, but for that of this city. There had been great corruption found within its walls, jealousy and greed but there was also the opportunity for great good and compassion. Just as she was once indentured and sold as chattle within a city such as this, so was she liberated and offered her sanctity by people such as these.

Slowly pieces of the battle replayed through her mind. She remembers suddenly being cut off in the middle of the streets, surrounded by dozens upon dozens of undead clawing and tearing at her. She remembered closing her eyes, praying her spirit would find it's way to Arvandor and be greeted by the Mother of all Tel'quessir. A brief moment of concern had washed over her, though it seemed as an infinity of sins, of her own making, or others upon her...

Then suddenly she had felt the cobblestones beneath her, clanging against her armor. The human mercenaries were dragging her to safety. When she could stand, she felt her left arm numb and immobile. She recited a prayer to the great spirit which began her own regeneration while she began to watch the other defenders fight on. Humans, elves, halfings and perhaps even a few with Gruumsh blood running through their veins, fought feverishly against the very Angel of Death itself.

Suddenly a cry went up and Eithna had sought to see which, only to watch the Angel of Death crumple to the ground and a small Halfling stand over it's unmoving body. Her spell having taken effect, feeling her arm return to her, she found the bow which fell within the street and returned to the battle. Arrow after arrow she let fly toward the enemy, curse upon terrible curse till finally there was respite.

There were calls to fight on, to carry the day. Eithna kept staring into the windows and between the rubble wondering how many families were still left now to the will of the Gods. She argued to gather the people whilst the fires of the battle kept the host of undead from rapidly advancing, taking them back to the east district with it's walls still standing. Calls from armored Human Warriors and Elven Rangers alike went out to carry the day and hold the now semblance of a line where the walls once stood.

In the midst of the argument, the undead returned. They seemed innumerable and utterly without exhaustion but the humans, elves, halfings and others fought on. Was it she whom inspired them with her songs of battle, or was it them her, through their actions. She still did not know but here she knelt, in the midst of blood and flame. They were victorious, a fact which had seemed nearly impossible and Eithna was forever changed.

She staggered through the rubble, searching for bodies, searching for people, searching for herself....

Ameris relates more specific suggestions to the Ilmatari, highlighting a particular abandoned warehouse that can be used as a triage station.

He makes clear to the healers that it will be as safe a place as any during the coming siege, as the healers will be welcomed by local patriotic citizens, as he understands it.

In the aftermath of the Blight being vanquished, a small number of civilians turned siege engineers would be seen being congratulated vigorously by their commander. Long trained and hard fought, someone somewhere spreads the word amongst the dockworkers and those civilians crawling out of their bunkers and from beneath their floorboards.

All of them, down to a man or woman, those siege engineers. Blightkillers.

A group of burly northman warriors and a few shield maidens make their camp on what grass they can find in the Palace District. They find themselves among the wreckage of The Wide merchant area. They tend to their wounded gather around a campfire. A blonde headed woman is heard sharing tales, though in Illuskan, and leading them in drink and song. Many ale kegs were consumed in celebration of their honoring Tempos in combat this day.

The siege is over.

After contributing to the defense of the Western Wall, helping clear the Docks District from the invading enemy flying troops, and fighting alongside the bravest adventurers in the Palace District to stem the Undead tide pouring in from the Northern Breach, a tall, broad shouldered man can be seen walking where the devastation is more extensive, and the death toll higher.

Fully clad in battered and stained steel, his once white cloak ripped and shredded, his helm dented, his shield's pieces scattered across the battleground, he walks slowly across the fields of slaughter. As he removed his helm, tossing it aside, his long, silver hair falls on his shoulders, stained from the blood coming from two shallow head wounds.

He walks on, often stopping by to offer the dead a murmured blessing, and the living who lost loved ones, homes and livestock words of comfort and as much gold as he can afford. After several hours of this, he finds himself in front of a funeral pyre, where the remains of many enemy carcasses are being stacked up to be burned or otherwise disposed of.

He stops in front of them, slowly extracting his blade from his scabbard as his shattered right shoulder protests painfully. The holy sword radiates an aura of pure light, a clean azure glow, stark contrast with his worn self. Once lifted it in front of himself, he drives the blade into the ground with all the strength he has left, as he kneels in front of it, hands on the hilt:

"Light of deliverance take you home...men, women, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters...May the Just God give you the eternal rest you deserve, the rest that was stolen from you. May his blind, all-seeing eyes look upon you with benevolence, and his hand embrace you in his glory. Rest, and be at peace...for justice is done."

After praying, he would extract the blade from the ground with a sharp pull, and stagger towards the outskirts of the ruined city, vanishing in the smoke and confusion.

Following the day of the final assualt on the city, Ameris wanders the battlestrewn streets of the city. He tries to find the wounded who cannot reach any of the temples and dispense healing. He goes armed, mindful of the potential for looting or stray bands of undead. Its clear from the economical way he uses what supplies there are that the temple's reserves might be low.

Telia would sometimes be accompanying her husband as he wandered the streets but she would time to time also be seen making excursions to the docks by herself. There she would direct any wounded she herself comes across to a temple or a triage camp. She looks in odd areas, where someone may have hidden themselves and if she finds frightened people, she would direct them to the triage camps as well, as they could be given food and water there and likely reunite with family if such still live.

If she finds any lone children, she would bring them to the Temple of Ilmater, so they may be taken to the orphanage which is now run in a building near the Temple inside the city after it was destroyed in the farmlands by the undead. Perhaps their parents would later be found and if not, they would at least have somewhere safe to be...

Often, she is seen to pause and look at the destruction, quiet words leaving her lips, "What has been destroyed can be rebuilt."

After Haram was hunted down and most of the remaining Pestskulls, Rotten Corpses and Fathers of Corpses were slayed in the Fields of the Dead, Vendor Xon returned to the forest.
Hidden: show
With the last of his strength Vendor Xon crosses the small stream and enters the sanctuary. So much happened the last tendays, so many battles were fought, so many died. Many people and animals lost their home as it was destroyed by the undead armies. The trail of destruction the hordes left on their way to Baldur's Gate is horrible. Now that the unliving enemy is defeated, there will be time to heal the land.
Ven falls down by the great oak. The bandage around his knee had loosed during the fight against Haram, the last of the Angels. The ranger examines the wound where the Blight hit him with his staff. He wrinkles his nose of the smell of the rotten flesh. Carefully he touches the black skin as suddenly the pain returns. With the ease of tension also the effect of the pain alleviating herbs ended. His face contorted with pain and to weak to renew the bandage he falls asleep.....

The Thayan Khazark sips his wine as he stares at the dancing flames of the fireplace in the Welcoming hall of the Enclave. On a table closeby, a plate of quail with a blackberry sauce is half eaten, cold from an earlier meal.

He sighed as a servant massages his blistered feet, he barked to the other servants " Bring me supper, I'm famished!"

The following hours the end of the siege, the Khazark is barely seen outside, working on his paperwork.

"Your Omnipotence... test results are back from the la-" an apprentice tells the Red wizard, rushing out of the depht of the Enclave

"Silence you fool, I'm enjoying my supper. I shall come along later." He said in a strict and stern tone, silencing the Apprentice...

Ameris spends much of his time absent the temple, out in the streets taking what healing he can to the injured, and the potentially diseased, citizens of the city. His focus is on the Docks district, due to how hard it was hit during the attack combined with the fact that the people there are poorer and less able to see to their own health.

He would offer words of comfort to those he treated, and those well enough would be encouraged to visit the temple itself. If he met lost children, he would seek to bring them back to the temple, if they were willing, and so hand them over to the dispossessed Sisters of Mercy's Orphanage. He'd explain to the children that it was best they were safe and fed, and if they were missing family members, those family members would know to find them in the temple. If children refused to come, he would ask to meet them the next day in the same place, so food could be brought to them.

The Acting Captain, Hoiha Dacino would try and wander the docks. When she'd find a group of people resting or in need of inspiration, she'd offer to sing one of the following songs to them, or recite them as a poem. In common, but if interest is given, in elven too.

Also, she'd go to the square in the middle of the Eastern Gate and recite them all aloud.

We need to adjust
So we can learn what was just

We demand visions!
Of beautiful future, summer seasons
To see the old
We require, even in the new.

Why do we fight?

"In my homeland, there lives a wise man
Tyressen is his name, from a simple life he ran
He's not a poet nor a scholar, but an oridinary fellow
If fate had been different, he'd be sitting at home eating tallow

Why do I speak of this stranger?
Why is it I trouble you with a distant ranger?
It's not because of him - but what he said
It was a truth, a cold hard truth, truly sad.

Why do we fight?! - he asked the gods
What makes us different from those we quell? - he demanded an answer
So he began to think. Not with scholar's or poet's mind
He thought with a practical mind, forged in battles' bind

So that others' needn't.
It's that simple
We fight not because we enjoy it
But to keep others dreams and innocence fit

We can't say the same - we didn't have the choice
We had to graps the buoys
We had to stay afloat
Even without a boat
So why do /we/ fight?
Why did we carry the light?
Why did we have to trudge knee deep in the bodies?
Why did we choke ourselves to near death with a bodice?

Life is beautiful.
Is it not?
Spring comes soon

Life allows us to love,
so love!
Your families, mates and neighbours

Stick together!
We fought for the chance
Let's not waste it

So what would have Tyressen said?
'We fight, so we can remain together.'
With time, our wounds will heal
And the lillies will bloom from the ashes of destruction."

We almost are

We have to remember what we fought for
Was it worth it?
We live! We can rebuild, return to the old ways improve upon them!
I say it was

We need a balance in our lives, a stability
Indeed
Now the war is over and towards peace we drift
We can rest."

Gather, gather and dare to dream, to have vision!

Declare bravely, your wildest dreams and wishes!
Gather, gather and remember your joys

Remember aloud! Why have you fought so bravely?
Gather, gather your portraits and still lives

Dare unhindered! Dare to improve upon them all
Gather, gather and sing with me

Sing! Behold your power to outlast the tireless
Gather, gather it all and use it to build a city your ancestors would envy!

The priest's witch often follows after into the docks. She makes a point to display a banner of the Broken God, while it may not be the deity she holds first and foremost, she clearly reveres him and wants the people of the docks know that he is there.

If any children would not want to go to the Orphanage, the sorceress would look them in the eyes and say that none were turned away and that she would hear no more of such talk after hearing rumours of such. She would also state that there was no need for them to be thieving or get beat if they did not come back with enough stolen goods. That 'Ilmater provides'.

Despite her clear words, she would soften up and offer each child she met a small honey flavoured sweet and sing a song or tell a story suitable for the children.

Later on and in the following days, the sorceress can be seen more finely dressed in the Palace District, inspecting the Theater, The Shelf of Many Books and the Duchal Palace itself.

Following a meeting between the Order of the Four Ways and the Temple of Ilmater in Baldur's Gate, monks of the Order can be seen helping to move corpses. Apparently many of the monks are immune to poison and disease due to their rigorous training. Additionally Master Llyra Shacklebreaker coordinates the efforts of the monks in providing healing to the sick and injured.

We march by day, we drink by night. Though the sun and snow and the gale. So have a round, a pint or glass. And drink that bugman's ale.
If there be a table as broad as is able, then set down a stump, a chair or a pail. For while we war for king and hold. Let's drink that bugmans' ale.
So bring on the ale and beer without fail, Oh barlass, or stories regale. Tomorrow we fight at dawns first light, but tonight it's Bugman's ale.
Pound the table, throw the chairs. Take the ale and leave th swill. Break the mugs and throw them out. Down the beard my ale goes.
Drink and sing 'neath stone and gold. Fetch me hammer, tongs and bellows. Forge the orcs in scorching coals. Down my beard the ale goes.
The time to drink is here again. Knock yer heads back and drink it down. Til our woman don't have chest hair. Down my beard the ale flows.
Diamonds may glaem like starlight nights. And gold may shine like bright of day. But Ale is more than either or. Down my beard the ale flows.
Pound the tables, throw the chairs. Take the ale and leave the swill. break the mugs and throw them out. Down mi beard the ale flows.
