What if deserted guildhalls became infested?
Maybe after a period of inactivity, maybe 6 months, guildhalls should be taken over by spawns and become accessible to the general server population as a new adventuring area. If the guild becomes active again, they can clear it in a series of events to reclaim their guildhall.
I'm not sure how many inactive guild areas are on the server right now. IF there aren't that many, then maybe this isn't a great idea. If there are, however, it might be an interesting way to add content.

My concern would be player led events to claim the infested halls and them not being a member of the guild that paid for it. Would be a mad dash to clear infested halls for free guilds.

And if the occupiers cannot occupy the abandoned Guild fir a similar time it is required to BE A GUILD, then it returns to SpawnTown.
I think it is an exciting idea...it might even bring back PCs and Guilds to the Server!?!
My thinking is...what's wrong with this scenario? If a group can diligently occupy and claim an abandoned Guild Hall, good for them...and, this would be an IC action that should be respected (over OOC ownership that trounced any IC action against Guilds).DM Nilbog wrote:My concern would be player led events to claim the infested halls and them not being a member of the guild that paid for it. Who decides if a guild is active or not? Seems to me you would practically have to get the former guild to OK this or suffer a lot of ooc resentment.

Good point. I think it would be important to send a notification on the forums to the guild in question. Sort of a 30 (or 60) day notice that says, "Hey, are you guys active? Would you be okay with your guildhall being used as a dungeon?"

Well I also think it is silly, from an IC perspective, that a Guild exists and lasts FOREVER, even if none of the Guild log in or even USE the Guild Hall anymore, instead, say, spending most of their time at the FAI.AlwaysSummer Day wrote:Who decides if a guild is active or not? Yes, it may sound crass and a bit cruel to say "Use It or Lose It," but...how do you think Ruins are made, those that we ALREADY adventure in? How many "abandoned" areas do we use daily, and when do we thing "Gee, who once lived here?!?"
What is more important to probably suss out is whether the Devs are even interested in taking Guild Hall Areas—which already went through a few stages of Review—want to place Mobs and such, for use by the General Populace.

Why the headache? Just turn old guildhalls into dungeons, and don't return them to an occupied state. It's a dungeon now, with server history. I've suggested this in the past

I agree. It's a great idea and if the guild returns to a strong level of activity it creates an a fun event to retake the guild hall. As some have mentioned, there are a number of unused guildhalls that are beautiful areas that are just sitting around growing cobwebs. Such areas shouldn't go to waste. Not to mention it would add a layer of history and storytelling to the adventures.Karond wrote:Why the headache? Just turn old guildhalls into dungeons, and don't return them to an occupied state. I lay claim to Elias Goodmanes tower. From this point on, it is the Den of Kren.

Re: What if deserted guildhalls became infested?
I think this a GREAT idea! The period of inactivity should be around a year and of course a 90 day warning notice must be sent. Then the monsters move in. As far as others claiming it, Or the guild that built it reclaiming it, Or nobody ever being able to claim the land again, Whatever. But there should be a rule regarding inactivity. A guild needs to maintain 'x' numbers of active members to have a guild hall, Period. It is silly to have abandoned guild hall from forgot guilds littering up the server when they could be enjoyed by others.

The old Ironfaar Guild. There are many Guilds such as the Elder Circle and Zhentarim either "moved" or upgraded their areas...and often, the entrance locations changed. The old entrances and Areas could have been left and used as Open Play Areas.Nomster wrote:Just curious... Which guild areas are not used?
I'm sure there are more examples.

Re: What if deserted guildhalls became infested?
The Ironfaar area doesn't exist anymore (I know because I got remodel the place once, but lost the area in a harddrive failure. I got the area from our developers as they had just removed it from the server. This was years ago). I think the developers have been good at removing areas as time goes by. They might still have them, to remodel them and put them in as dungeons. As for inactive guildhalls...how are the crystal moon, Dead Crows and coven of darkness doing?Steve wrote:The old Ironfaar Guild.
