How high to sneak past guards...

Unread post by V'rass »

So i am now playing a rogue and part of my persona is a mask which i never take off for any reason. Obviously that means some npc guards will come after me so when i go into their territory i always go into stealth mode as one should do when around guards. So far though the guards always seem to know im there. What number of ranks in the stealth skills do i need to go unoticed by them?

Guess ill have to avoid them then, least till i get assassin invisibility. Stupid though, the guards are essentially meta-gaming me... i will simply run past them till then.

On my sneak, I can get by the guards in BG with 50 H/44 MS.

How did I test? I picked a noble's pocket. The server has scripts in place that make the guards chase your if they notice you picking pockets, and you can hide to avoid them.

My personal opinion is that if you can avoid the guards that way, then you are free to sneak around the city.

According to my experiences, it'd be 50/44 H/MS

As a fun past time, I advise pickpocketing nobles in the palace district the HiPSing. The game will update you every round whether or not the guards found you yet.

I should end up with around 43-46 hide and move silently by lv 30... with gear I should be able to hit 50 or at least 49. As for the sewers, where does one find the entrance from outside the city?

Northern Farmlands, on the hill things. There is a path up. I think it is on the east side of the map but I cannot quite recall how the map is portrayed on the minimap :P

Does not help me then... the main problem i have is with the guards on the bridge, have to go past them to reach the sewer entrance so until i have a high enough stealth skill they will detect me. :(

Use the cave on the bandit map between FAI and BG, take a boat to Cionthar River or Ulgoth's Beard.

I do not think the guards on the bridge ask you to remove your mask, or do they...?

Not sure what you precisely want though. Just to get past the bridge, or is it to wander around inside BG masked...?

The guards on the bridge do seem to detect me. Inside the city some of the npc guards will come after me and some wont. Id like to eventually avoid both groups. I shall prob rely on sea travel to enter and leave the city until my stealth is high enough to evade them. Should work ok.

you could also just take the boat from south of candlekeep to the docks, couldn't you?
Some people say if you can't do something right, don't do it at all...I say maybe you just need more practice...?
