Server vault wipe?

Unread post by tankteddy »

I'm just wondering as a community majority how many people would want a server wipe?

If you think of another option feel free to comment.

Note this is just for fun.

New update, new skills, new builds. Full wipe would be. . . Interesting.

You would have a lot of issues though granted players have build up a LOT of rp around their current builds.

Leave the level 30's let them RCR if they want the new skills.

Tankteddy, your survey is flawed. We cannot wipe gold or items from the server. We would have to go in and delete the items from each individual character, which would take way too long. The only way would be to do a full vault wipe of all characters.

Ofcourse, that is why this is as stated only for fun. By all means if you want to burn all your items and mule all your gold to a random PC and delete that PC then go for it.

Honestly I wouldn't mind a full wipe and let everyone start from scratch with the full new update, but there would be WAY to many problems from this.

I hate wipes, no matter which game it is. I hate seeing all the work i put into my characters to reach that lvl they are and the items they have go down the toilet.

And no, i am not one of those super rich people and i couldn't care less if someone else has more shineys than i do.

I would also like to point that should the server wipe, people will leave. It will happen, no doubt.

I voted no.

Nothing good would come from a wipe. Lots of us would leave and two years down the road the same people will be whining again about how unfair it is that some people have all the best stuff and will want to wipe again.

Well, if you delete all uti files from the module...the items would all disappear from people's characters. Except the DM rewards. One could probably snatch those with a script or something.

Anyway, I voted no due to the harm it causes. Have anyone of you played on an NWN or NWN2 server that wiped with good results? I've been with it once. The server had wiped not too long after I discovered NWN multiplayer, so I heard about the aftershock constantly. It caused a lot people to leave and become angry, although that's probably mainly because the Head Honcho was a vindictive and insecure individual:
Hidden: show
NWN Server, Lala-land. Basically, it ran on donations. Donations ran out after 13 months or so. Head guy warned about it. It didn't get fixed for 3 weeks, but a week or maybe more before closing a lot of donations came in and the server could survive for at least a 12+ more months. Head guy wasn't happy, so he wiped the server just to teach people a "lesson" after everyone had helped pay the upkeep
I don't have any pleasant experiences from wipes. It would be great if sometime in the future, on NWN3, PW creators actually put some thoughts into the foundation when it comes to items, balance and fairness. But until then, it's best to just try and do what one can with the foundation we've IMO.

Sure here is the 200k I have gathered over my year and a half here. :D

Don't get me wrong I find the results interesting. Would I personally be ok with wipe, Yes. Do I want one. No. I love the server regardless of the power builds. Meta gaming. or poor choices ((both DM's and players)). Everything has is flaws and to be honest granted all the problems this server is strong and kept it together rather well. Beside all those people with 7.5 mill gold ((cough Diana cough)) take their time to enjoy RP with us lowbies. My highest level has ever been 24. I refuse to play a favored soul because of power building but that is just me.

I guess what I am saying is If a wiped happen, I would still play. But I don't want that to happen. regardless of the level of power between people. If you take the time to RP with them they will involve you, and help you. I have had a lot of fun times just RPing with people.

On paper I unstand the thought practice.

Practically, I think it's stupid.

Sorry if that sounds inflammatory, I would espouse a level cap of 15 myself to better meet the RP cap of 15 set by the server. But, that will never happen because that too would be a disaster for the same reasons. 100s upon 100s of hours, which could have been spent fostering relationships, improving educations, developing financial opportunities, were instead spent in search of illusionary data files that offer people a sense of momentary fulfillment, and you want to wipe all that away. You pull back that veil to see the Wizard is really a guy in boxers, a wife beater stained with cheeto grease and no Vorpal weapons! Lol, it would be too much for most people, myself included :P
