i guess i should point out the original reasoning behind the weapons, it might have actually been a request im not sure how it got started but the rapiers were added bc duelists cant use shields, therefore lack shield AC
the script being the same as the spell makes it so it cant be stacked, so you have the option of UMD or saving money and getting a weapon, so the abuse of it is not possible, using two does not give you double the AC, this is why it is still in game
that being said tho the same logic can be applied to two weapon fighting, which already has a line of feats as pointed out as well as two handed weapons who currently only have the option of UMD for shield AC, but this forces UMD on two handed builds to make up for the lack of AC
to answer the AC slot question you have no control over it, items by default can only have certain types of AC, when you make them your only option is AC and the base item determines the type
the reason rapiers give shield is because its a custom script, weapons by default give deflection which doesnt solve the issue of missing shield AC but the custom script does
and to answer the use question the problem with the weapons is you kinda have to build around them and how many builds specifically go after a rapier that are not duelist? yes there are some but definitely not a lot

Hey, sounds like a good idea to me! Here I can create some fluff for these bonuses just fine.NeOmega wrote:Because weapons can already come with deflect bonuses. Plus, a rapier giving a shield bonus is ridiculous. You can deflect blows with a weapon, but using it to block blows like a shield, ESPECIALLY a rapier, is just nonsense.
Let's give halberds a dodge bonus, and warmaces a natural armor bonus while we are at it then.
Halberd with dodge? I'll call it "Zeus's Retort" This strange looking weapon is shaped into a lightningbolt with a long blade affixed to one side. Merely gripping the weapon imbues the wielder with the speed and power of a storm, allowing the user to nimbly dodge aside from his opponent's blows and meting out their own with the crushing force of Thunder. ((Item Properties: Dodge +2, Enhancement Bonus +2, Sonic Damage: 1d4))
Warmace with Natural Armor? "Mountain Thresher" This warmace, imbued with the strength of the earth with the help of (Insert Earthen god here)'s clergymen, grants it wielders the patient endurance of a mountain and the disastrous power of an earthquake, hardening the wielders skin into a rocklike carapace and strengthening their muscles. ((Item Properties: Natural Armor +3, Strength +4, Extra Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6))
If you want I could come up with items and fluff incorporating any exotic bonus you want into an item. It's Magic. As long as someone out there wants something and there's a caster to make it, it can be made. Now, to be clear, I am only supporting the logic behind WHY these items would be made from a Roleplay point of view, not as to their inclusion and use on the server.

I raised both balance and point of magic as objections to the weapon. I am on topic.Considerate_ wrote:Now you're referring to a balance issue for the server, not a point of magic. There's artifacts in the Forgotten Realms setting that would laugh at such a paltry enchantment.
Let's stay on topic, shall we

I wouldn't mind, I asked for an invisible off hand widget kind of item in the past, I like the 1h animations, but you have to use a shield to have the 1h anims, unless you use a light weapon, which not everyone does.
Aurelien Amon: Human fighter, member of the Whitewood Vanguard, Hoarite
Lotrik: Not a wise Genasi, probably stronger than you tho, a master of longswords. Fully retired

There is a lot of stuff like this on the server though.NeOmega wrote:Because weapons can already come with deflect bonuses. Plus, a rapier giving a shield bonus is ridiculous. Don't we have a couple of feats that do exactly the same thing with two weapons? I do believe they're called Two-Weapon Defense.
Having a rapier enchanted to block rather than attack seems just as likely as a shield enchanted to smack things in the head with.
Let's give halberds a dodge bonus, and warmaces a natural armor bonus while we are at it then.
Rings that give MS? How exactly would a ring let you move more silently? Doesn't make much sense but of course it's magical which can justify pretty much everything.
Weapons that give Hide / MS? Doesn't make much sense either but hey magics and all...

Re: Non-visible shield model
Invisible items do exist. .. ergo invisible weaponry and armor will happen in this setting. Anyone who played the original single player champaign may remember that invisible flute with ridiculous stats that only the bard could use (and see for that matter... every one thought he was just more mental then usually).
However... if you Want reasoning behind some of the happenings and items, safe to say that...

The only point is if the team would allow it duo to balance and setting-concerns. I could imagine say a small buckler attached to the duelist handguard. .. then having it turned invisible and maybe made of a mithral-lightweight material.
What id really like to see is the lv 30 grey orc barbarian with invisible armor and punching knuckles spikes walking around doing impressive feats of combat... while everyone thinks he is naked.
