My guess is because there is definitely a feeling, when new that you simply can't play with the "big boys" because your pc is too low to go where they go our be involved in anything but the most superficial rp. It can be very difficult and intimidating when first joining the server to find your way in to plots and events. The current staff has done a wonderful job of making our a bit easier, but newer players are still going to be a bit intimated by level 30's with there first pc.

There are also many players who simply enjoy higher level content...that is a valid play style as well.

Agreed. You don't like them, don't do them yourself... Simple.
Well, this can be fixed in other ways.

These may well be true for some people, but still doesn't really explain why it's such a big issue. There's a constant stream of threads on the subject and posters include plenty of long-time players.

Well, that's true for certain. But I think the response here denotes that most people rely on quests for XP, because it's so painful getting it by other means. But no-one feels good about it.

IMO the whole metric could do with a re-think based on the question, "What is it we're really trying to achieve here?" But after 7 years, that seems unlikely.

You can tell it's not such a serious issue when the most voted option was for getting rid of duracele. Really though BGTSCC forum goers can get riled up and engage in very lengthy discussions for even the most dead horse topics, it's part of the forum & overall BGTSCC experience really.
Using a running joke is not exactly proof.......take away that and the majority vote either says abolish or abolish with something to replace the mechanics of the quests. In fact Duracele should not have added that after someone came in with the joke. It was funny but it has now degraded the original intent but lucky for us there is still some data even though that happened. I would say if all the votes were for get rid of Duracele then yeah you could say it is proof but it was added after a joke was put up and then now you propose it as some form of proof? I am not biting.

Here is what i would like to see. Keep the quests. Give gold reward only. That`s to keep me from doing the surface quests over and over again. For the xp part. Go adventuring. Meaning kill spawns. The xp you get from party monster bashing beats quest xp/min anyday. After the change of the loot system it should be easier to find parties adventuring.

I'm okay with the quests. Some are boring/pointless (lengthy fetch quests in BG), but others give you a reason to visit areas you might not otherwise go and give you objectives other than just killing mobs in said places.

In other words: grind. How about... no.

Some players don't want to grind, and even find it boring and immersion butchering as hell. Just saying... ad nauseam.

this is definitely nowhere near true in the UD given that it still lacks epic content taking in account the fact that the majority of the UD population is +2 ecl

grinding "epic" content for single digit xp generally isnt considered fun or more productive than any quest at that point

the rp xp... i have no idea, all the ones i end up rping on are already 30 so i dont pay attention to it :?

Grinding is boring. Quests boring, but you can do them only once per week and they do give you cause to different areas where you can end up interacting with others. Proper RP is not boring, but RP on BGTSCC so often means sitting around a campfire jawing - boring.

The best solution imho to somehow reward visiting more than 1 area.

Like, you get an XP boost for the first X amount of monsters of a type you kill then it drops down, more or less equal to the amount a person kills while RPing through a dangerous dungeon with a group.

Make such happen either once/few hours or once/reset.

Or something like Guild Wars 2's location visit XP at the end of dungeons or sth.

I voted for get rid of Duracele. However, honestly though, I'd be for removing quests but implementing a bonus XP bank that refills over time naturally but fills quicker when you RP. So for instance, if a normal monsters gives 20 xp and you have 100 in your bonus bank, The monster then gives 40 total and you have 80 xp in your bank.

Put a cap of 1,000 on the bank that fills up each reset and let RP xp refill it on a 1-1 ratio.

RP re-filling has been tried elsewhere. I've seen it end up in an endless war/jaw cycle. Perhaps done well enough it can escape that. Possibly a lot of hard work though.

Remind me again why being ultra-niggardly with XP is a good thing.
