Bystanders would notice several supply crates being delivered by Maltz and his associates. The goods were ordered and bought by Dorne the Lion Blade, being delivered and unloaded into the Pathfinder Hall. From the looks of it, there seem to be several crates and close to a dozen training dummies.
Dorne can be observed directing that the dummies be brought to the basement while the crates be stored in the office. When directing the crates be put in the office, one with exceptional ears would overhear Dorne saying something to the effect of: "They are not ready for these yet."

After that he still avoids Telia and Timmy as much as possible but leaves a note for the sorceress. His penmanship could use a fair amount of practice...
Mrs Santraeger,
I read your note. I won't tease Timmy or others that can't understand jokes anymore.
Dannic
Dear Dannic,
There are two different kind of ways to tease. One way is when you are mirthful, seeking to make others laugh. The other is when you are mean, and others cry.
The Joybringer wants us to tease and joke in the happy way. To make people laugh.
Sometimes, we will say the wrong things. Sometimes, we will make people cry or angry.
But then we can say "I am sorry" and we can try to find out, what things they do find funny.
Not everyone laugh at the same things. True skill, in making others happy in this way, is to find out what people think is funny.
To be a performer, to stand on the stage... Someone needs to think outside of themselves.
Think of all the different people. The Duke who is also the Flaming Fist Commander, Eltan, would not find the same jokes as funny as High Captain Cyrano Ambrosio, a dangerous pirate of Roaringshore. A noble or a merchant would not find the same jokes funny as the farmer would.
If you met Duke Eltan, High Captain Cyrano Ambrosio, noblewoman Angela Ivila, merchant Henrik Mettarn and farmer Bill... what joke would you tell each one?
Which of these, if they did not like your joke, might do something against you? Which of these, would perhaps even seek to harm you, if your joke was particularly bad..?
...but also think of, which of these, would be beneficial to making laugh. What might they do for you, if they think your jests are funny and they like you?
Signed,
Telia
DM Arrakeen wrote:After reading the note, Dannic can be seen spending some time writing down on the other side of the sketches Telia gave him.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Timmy not being able to write so good yet only gets more upset upon failing in this task. He can't seem to write whatever he wishes to tell Telia.
This growing frustration would cause him to be more temperamental than usual and even more clingy when it comes to Telia.
Nomster wrote:She seems to realize her mistake but after having tried to gently encourage Tarina to try to write or at least express her feelings and thoughts through paints in a journal, she has an idea in mind. When Timmy finds her as she sits in the meeting room, penning letters, Telia would tell Timmy to sit down on a chair next to her. "Remember when I asked you to try to write down your stories, Timmy..?" She smiles at the young boy and rises from her seat, walking to a bookshelf.
DM Arrakeen wrote:The child looks to Telia with the ever-present awe and fascination and nods rubbing his cheek nervously. "I'm not good at that." He mumbles blushing slightly.
Nomster wrote:She takes out a soft leather journal, filled with many pages. It would be simple but it would be good enough for its purpose. Next, she reaches for a palette of watercolour paints. She places the journal in front of Timmy, closed. Sitting down again, she scoots her chair closer to his and shows him the different colours on the paint palette before placing it down near him so that he can examine it closer.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Timmy's left hand, as usual, ends up clutching Telia's sleeve while he inspects the palette curiously.
Nomster wrote:"It can be easier to hold a brush, as there is no right or wrong way." She would explain that the colours need water to be used and shows Timmy a brush, then reaches for a loose sheet of paper, showing Timmy the basics, having had a cup of water in front of her which is sacrificed for this purpose. "It is better to start with a light touch, as if gently tickling the page. It is easier to add colour, than to take away colour." Telia would then give the brush to Timmy and allow him to practise on the sheet of paper. "Like ink, these need to dry once things are painted."
With a tip of his tongue sticking out and a look of uttermost focus Timmi grabs the brush gently and tries to mimic Telia. He makes few colorful splotches here and there on the paper. His left hand still holding onto Ameris' wife sleeve.
Nomster wrote:She then goes on to explain, "I knew a man in the Theater, Felian was his name. He kept a book with him all the time and he would paint the most wonderful of scenes but also the most strange. Some would have him himself in them, others would not. It was a story, of things he had seen or things which had happened. But we can also paint stories of the mind." She smiles at Timmy and sees how he is doing, not willing to interfere unless he does something quite wrong in which case she would gently aid him. "Sometimes, it is easier to draw things, than to write them."
DM Arrakeen wrote:The clingy, ittle boy slowly transforms his colorful splotches into a bunch of rather overweight and not very proportional butterflies. The way he holds the brush and his way of using it would perhaps suggest to Telia that his problems with writing may stem from a fact that Timmy's motor control skills, especially those manual ones, are underdeveloped. Which is easy to miss when it comes to his overly energetic and fidgety nature. The quality of his drawing is something a child about half is age would draw.
Nomster wrote:"Paints can be difficult to use all the time... so there is this thing here too, but it is only black." Telia would show Timmy a graphite stick which is covered with soft leather to not stain. "You can use it anywhere and can even keep it in a pocket." She would show Timmy on another sheet of paper how the graphite stick is used, making a very simple sketch of a flower.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Timmy's attention turns to the stick, he observes Telia using it then tries on his own. Attempting to add eyes to his fat butterflies. Luckily the paint managed to dry enough for him to do so.
Nomster wrote:If Timmy shows interest in these things,
DM Arrakeen wrote:The child seems definitely interested if not fascinated.
Nomster wrote:Telia would open the journal, the first page. She would reach for her purple ink and dip her quill into it and then write 'Timmy's Stories' in flowing letters at the top of the page.
"This is your journal now, Timmy. I would like for you to draw or paint, when it is too difficult to write. You can then show me or others, or even keep it to yourself. It is yours, so you decide who you want to share your stories with." She would let Timmy have the graphite pen and tell him that he can ask an adult at any time, to use the paint palette.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Timmy looks to Telia, big-eyed and overwhelmed for some reason. He fidgets nervously taking the journal into his slightly paint and graphite-marked hands. The child keeps glancing back and forth between the little book and the sorceress. A bright, sheepish smile shows a moment later and he mumbles "Thank you Mrs Santraeger."

DM Arrakeen wrote:Mili listens with interest, asking then questions about manifestations of magic and how did Telia learn to weave spells if she didn't study them.
Nomster wrote:As Telia and Mili continue to talk when there is time and Mili expresses curiosity about magic and especially sorcerous magic, she tries to explain it as best as she can. "Magic is in my blood whether I wish for it or not, Mili. When I was about your age, things would happen. Lights would appear and float about, I did not know how or why... but they were there. Sometimes when I was angry or afraid, fire would instead be created, or I would disappear." She sighs, apparently some of those effects having caused her trouble in the past.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Mili folds her hands listening very intently, she nods from time to time.
Nomster wrote:"A sorcerer already knows magic, so what they need to learn is how to control it. A wizard studies both to learn and to control magic but magic cannot happen ever, without a wizard willing it." Telia lets Mili think over that for a moment before she continues.
DM Arrakeen wrote:A thoughtful crease shows on Mili's forehead. "Does it mean you carry a fixed imprint of certain spells?"
Nomster wrote:"It is possible for a sorcerer to learn things. Such as the schools of magic, how magic interacts with different things and how certain effects are made. By understanding magic, I think it allows a sorcerer to draw on more of their power, to go from not having an idea of why magic happens... to want to have magic happen for particular reasons, with specific effects... and that understanding, lessens magical mishaps. Experimenting and playing with magic is a large part of that." The last words, being something found in Mystra's dogma. "A sorcerer typically learns more from trial and error, than from tomes."
She smiles at Mili, letting her think over the words once again for a while before she continues.
DM Arrakeen wrote:The girl rubs her chin, listening carefully with apparent interest.
Nomster wrote:"The obvious difference is that a wizard has a spell book. He or she can learn any spell and cast them, if they have studied enough. A sorcerer has no book. Everything I know, is in here." Telia places a finger against her temple, to show that the spells she know are in her mind. "A sorcerer could never learn as many spells as a wizard, as we have no spell book... and I would not even know how to use one. But the spells I know, can never be taken away from me. They are a part of me."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~DM Arrakeen wrote:"I see." Mili nods, a pensive look on her face. "That also means you never need to prepare the spells beforehand. You are always ready Mrs Telia. That's something truly intriguing. And yet scary, come to think of it. You magic is in you, it's part of you. And magic is a powerful source, as dangerous as it is beautiful. I think I'm glad my magic is not in me. I don't think I'd be able to control such power." The girl smiles gently. "Thank you for taking your time to explain this matter to me."
DM Arrakeen wrote:Over time Amanda would grow accustomed to the cat enough for her to even try an pet him gently and carefully. If he allowed that, she would try to share her food, which she usually barely touches, with him.
Nomster wrote:The cat would be quite happy that he is finally noticed and lets Amanda pet him and responds with a loud purr each time. As Amanda grows more accustomed to his presence, Silvyr would weave around her legs as she walks and try to generally stay closer to her.
The tributes of food would be gobbled up, as long as they are some kind of meat. Amanda may come to learn that ham is Silvyr's favourite.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Amanda can be seen close to Silvyr whenever the cat is around. On purpose and without hiding it, the girl always takes the ham off her bread and keeps it for later for the cat. One day Lions would notice Amanda sitting in her safe corner brushing Silvy's fur with one of the brushes that were a part of the toiletries for the kids.
TarnishedSoul wrote:After an interview with Telia Santraeger, the Steward of Pathfinder Hall, Alexandra Keenan was accepted as a tutor for the children that will be housed in the building. The two women toured the facility, and the new instructor was given a synopsis of the children currently there as well as the number who will arrive in the coming days. Miss Keenan seemed enthused about the opportunity and said that she would spend some time formulating her lesson plans before seeking Sylvi, the ever-present caretaker, to discuss them in more detail.
Several days later, Alexandra returned to Pathfinder Hall for that specific purpose: a conversation with Sylvi.
• • •
TarnishedSoul wrote:"Fair day to you, Miss Sylvi," the young woman kindly greets the caretaker when the opportunity next avails itself. "My name is Alexandra Keenan; we briefly met a few days ago when Steward Santraeger gave me a tour of Pathfinder Hall, although you were busy with the children at the time."
DM Arrakeen wrote:"Good morning, miss. What can I do for you?" Sylvi puts down the book she was flipping through, looking to the young Acolyte.
TarnishedSoul wrote:"I have been hired as a tutor; I am here to ensure that basic reading and writing skills are learned, although it is my hope to start the foundation of a well-rounded and diverse education. Have you the time to speak?" the young woman asks, smiling.
DM Arrakeen wrote:A twinkle of interest flares in woman's eyes, she leads Alexandra to a desk, where she usually grades and checks kid's homework, and invites her guest to sit. "It's good to meet someone of the same profession." Sylvi breaks a small, lopsided smile. Burn scar preventing the other corner of her lips from fully cooperating with the expression.
TarnishedSoul wrote:"I would like to discuss my proposed plans with you, get your feedback and any other helpful information you would share with me, and formally meet the children if you think they are ready."
Alexandra holds a well-worn notebook against her chest; several pages seem to be marked and ready for her to open straight to them. She maintains a pleasant smile upon her features as she awaits Sylvi's response.
DM Arrakeen wrote:"You have my attention miss Keenan." The older woman nods, waiting for Alexandra to begin her presentation.
sweetlikesplenda wrote: The following day Aaron would be seen in the market area of the Eastern Gate district perusing the workmen stalls and laborer sections. After discussing with a few master craftsmen he would return to the Pathfinder Hall with a canvas bag of quality Rose Wood, varnish and a new carving knife. When Quinn was not under another's tutelage or in his studies, he would present the contents of the bag to him. The Knight would also offer the boy fifty gold coins for his work upon completion, telling Quinn that he values good work and believes in paying for services.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------DM Arrakeen wrote:The boy looks baffled, blinking nervously he glances between the bag with supplies and Aaron. Quinn's ears turn red when the Knight offers him money. He steps back a little, apologetic look on his face. "I'm not sure sir I can accept that. Mrs Sylvi wouldn't like that." He motions Andrew over. "Andrew asked if he could paint the pieces after we coat them with varnish."
The other boy looks in silence to Aaron. The knight would have to be blind to not notice the hopeful look on child's face.
sweetlikesplenda wrote:Aaron would be a regular fixture in the Hall and with the children, taking up to three, four hour shifts of guarding the Hall as the children went about their studies, play time, meals, prayers, and other activities. As he would sit near the entrance on duty he would also be seen pouring over many books that he had brought with him. Next to him would be a paper, quill, and ink that he would use to take notes. Over the next several days the Knight would visit The Shelf of Many Books and any other book sellers in the city to gather copies of his history books he would be using for lessons with the children. He would pay for scribe work to make copies of any books that may be unavailable.
With an arm load of books, he would return to the Hall and prepare his first lessons with the children on topics of local history to Baldur's Gate and the surrounding region, given that would be the most likely to have an impact on their lives. A copy of the books used in the lesson would be available for each child. He would try to present the materials in a way that would capture the attention of the children, ending the first lesson with first-hand accounts of the battles he fought in during the Black Orc war from Doron Amar, to the Eastern Farmlands, and the Friendly Arm Inn and the heroics of the many that fought in the battle, some of which gave all. He would end each lesson a few moments early, taking a small amount of time to then discuss knightly virtues. Focusing on kindness to others, chivalry, honesty, and sacrifice, at first.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Quinn, Mili, Andrew and Danic sit in silence during the lesson, listening with interest. Some of them even can be seen making some notes.
During the talk about virtues, Andrew can't help himself and starts sketching some of the chess pieces, designs for them. They would look similar to the army of knights.
Timmy, not due to lack of interest but most likely to his overly active nature, starts to fidget, his feet wriggling about half a candlemark into the lesson. The little boy frowns when Aaron speaks about wars and battles. At times it seems like he is about to dart away from his chair... Stern look from Sylvi keeps him in place however.
It's hard to say when it comes to Amanda if the child is paying any attention or not. She doesn't take notes and her gaze travels around the room nervously from time to time. If Silvyr is around she sits closer to him than to other children. If not she sits with Mili, looking to the older girl's notes on occasion.
sweetlikesplenda wrote:As he went about his lesson, given his understanding of each child after observing them now for some time, he would call on those he felt would be most comfortable with the attention. He would test this by calling on Amanda early on to see how she reacted. If the reaction was poor, he would refrain from putting attention on her for the remainder of the lesson.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Amanda looks to Aaron, pulling at the red cord Ameris has given her but doesn't say a word, looking down to her book.
sweetlikesplenda wrote:Taking similar action with Quinn, given his quiet nature.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Quin answers any questions if asked, reads out loud if asked as well. His reading is more or less fluent. He only struggles with difficult words he has never seen before.
sweetlikesplenda wrote: The other four he would keep an eye on, to ensure no one was out of line, over-active or picked on others for lack of knowledge or reading ability. For good behavior or volunteering to read or participate in the lesson, a small sweet would be granted. As he went about the lesson he would also take notes on each child's reading comprehension.
DM Arrakeen wrote:During the lesson Sylvi's attention remains mostly on Timmy who barely reads. She helps him with the tasks, simplifying excerpts from the book provided by Aaron.
Andrew's reading is slightly slower than Quinn's and Mili's but he doesn't struggle with more difficult words due to a slower pace. At some point he asks the Knight "Sir, are there any books with pictures showing battles?"
Mili volunteers to read out loud, perhaps for the sake of Timmy or because she enjoys it. She refuses sweets suggesting that perhaps apples would be better.
Dannic is definitely on his best behavior, he refrains however from reading out loud or sharing his notes. Judging from his answers if asked any question he has a solid understanding of what the lesson was about.
Amanda at this point looks to Sylvi mumbling a question and when the caretaker nods the skittish child wanders off, picks another book from those available and soon could be seen in her comfort spot reading quietly to Silvyr.
Nomster wrote:An Inspection.
Sister Juna came by an inspected Pathfinder Hall and spoke to the children as well as anyone else who was not busy. Tarina, sir Aaron and Telia made sure to answer any questions the older woman had with Eldarian introducing himself towards the end of the inspection.
News would be shared to everyone else who works in Pathfinder Hall or is a member of the Order of Lions that Sister Juna was pleased with what she had seen and that the other thirty children would arrive in a tenday. Timmy would have been seen running around with a softly glowing green shirt.
It would be noticeable that the days following this visit, strange things are happening to some objects in Pathfinder Hall. One of the waterpumps in the basement for the baths has been turned green, one of the Helmite statues sparkle, a bench glows with an orange light... Different cantrips have been applied, all in plain sight.
If any of the children would remark on it, Telia would state it is a wonder of magic and that the Lady of Mysteries watch over them. She would then do a small display of magic, to ease their fears.
A Dinner With Friends.
Later that day, many friends gathered in Pathfinder Hall to enjoy taters and fried fish prepared by Michael. The meal was somewhere inbetween the standard of the Elfsong and the Blade & Stars but it was clear to all who had tasted Michael's cooking prior that he was getting better. The comradeship was more important for some than others as tragic things had occurred.
Within Pathfinder Hall, there was plenty of warmth to let envelop all.
///Announcement for clarification:
Dear playerbase, Orphanage-related plotline is not centered only around the initiative led by Order of Lions in Pathfinder Hall.
There are over 200 orphans at the Orphanage and the plotline can be accessed through the Ilmatari Temple, the Orphanage itself, guild-faction channels etc.
You do not have to be a part of The Pathfinder Hall RP to be a part of the Orphanage plotline.
There are other initiatives in progress that are not part of Order of Lions guild plot.
I hope that is clear now.
I don't bite;) if you have questions, concerns, want to be included but don't know how to become involved shoot me a PM.///
Re: Orphanage and Orphans of Baldur's Gate (Player/DM IC RP)
Few days later, Sister Juna meets with Emissary Nerys.
///Our tech master is also quite a RPer:) Thank you D47, for all your work///
DM Arrakeen wrote:Elderly Ilmatari invites Nerys into a bigger room with all the kids interested in joining the tribe present. They sit on the floor with curiosity and determination painted across their faces.
"Good day Emissary!" Nine voices say in unison. An air of seriousness about the group is almost palpable.
Nerys would notice that despite the kids sitting together there is some distance between the majority of them and the rowdy trio sitting closer to the window.
"You wanted to speak with the children, to learn their heart's desire and if need be respond to their questions. They have been instructed to behave and be polite." Sister Juna says to Nerys "Anne will stay here with you while I need to go back to my other duties. Thank you for coming Emissary." The head of the Orphanage offers a warm smile to Greyfox's skald then leaves the room.
Duster47 wrote:"Thank you Sister Juna for this time to share words with the children."
She is wearing her battle-leathers with fur under-layer clearly visible at her neck and at the sleeves at her bare hands. Numerous metal rings are sewn onto the leather. Around her waist is a wide leather belt through-which are weaved wide crimson and sky-blue clothes tied in a knot then dangle as two sashes. A handaxe is tucked into her belt and she wears a big, round shield on her back marked in swirled quadrants of crimson and sky-blue. She is wearing fur-lined leather, knee-high boots.
Her sandy-blonde hair is platted braids on the left side of her head, revealing her ear. Her left ear has four silver ring piercings with a gray and white feather dangling from highest ring. The rest of her tousled, long hair is mostly loose and draped across her back and shoulders framing her face. She is not wearing any discern-able makeup leaving her natural beauty on display (natural CHA = 19). There is an obvious, but old scar across the bridge of her nose reaching up and across her right eyebrow, which is also pieced at its right edge with another silver ring.
Nerys slowly, confidently, looks at each of them eye-to-eye with a neutral expression ending with Sister Anna, to-which she briefly smiles. Nerys looks back to the children. She speaks slowly with soft, assuring tone (base Diplomacy 27, Perform 52), saying, "Cool winds, children of the walled village of Baldur's Gate. As Sister Juna said, I am Nerys, Emissary of the Grayfox Tribe. I am the tribe's skald and also shield-wife of our Chief Cynric, son of Rigo. A shield-wife is a woman who is a respected warrior of the Tribe. A skald is a story-teller, often through song, and keeper of our Tribe's history. I am honored to be seeking your council, to speak with you, today."
DM Arrakeen wrote:Kids greet Nerys with waves and nods, some of them smile shyly. the rowdy trio wears serious expressions, watching the emissary intently.
Duster47 wrote:She pauses and removes her shield from her back. She squats and lays the well-used shield, painted-side up, saying, "Imagine this is a camp fire and we are all sitting around it." They may or not notice her fingernails are a little dirty, she wears a very pretty ring on her left hand and lesser ring on her right hand. She herself next sits cross-legged on the floor. "Imagine now, instead of walls around you, there are tents and forest beyond," gracefully sweeping hand, "and a river there", points to her right. "Above us are the stars of the night sky," reaching upward. "Now, move closer so I can better see your faces in the light of our fire." She motions them closer and pauses waiting for them to move as much as they care to.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Draven, Malor and the trio sit closer to Nerys, two pairs of siblings remain in distance. However, the whole group appear focused on Nerys.
Anne leans against the wall watching the kids.
Duster47 wrote:"I should tell you more about me. I greeted you saying, 'Cool winds.' Does anyone know why?" She waits for a response, then continues.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Nine heads shake in clear sign of "no".
Duster47 wrote:"It is a reference to our father Shaundakul, the Rider of the Winds, also known as the Helping Hand, who teaches us one of our duties is to aid those in-need, especially travelers, such as yourselves. For we are all on this journey of life, and our trails now cross here, at this fire," motioning to the shield.
"You now know a little more about me. Each of you, tell me your name and something about yourself. After that you can ask me any question you want about me, or the Greyfox Tribe. Who will be first?" She smiles warmly at them, scanning the group looking for who will be first.
DM Arrakeen wrote:The rowdy trio nudges one another and Anika ends up being first to speak. "I'm Anika. I like being outside more than inside. We can't run or really play here" A light shrug is offered "I've been an orphan for the last 3 years. I don't like it here very much. And I don't like people being mean to children. And I like the lessons with the Lion Blade. And I like fighting. And winning." Anika grins.
Duster47 wrote:"Anika, I can feel the fire burning in your blood, Anika. All of you must know that we treat our children well. They are our future and deserve the best we can provide and teach them. If you choose to join us, you can run free in and around our camp. You can learn to art of honorable battle from our warriors.
Who's next? Tell me your name."
DM Arrakeen wrote:Harry grumbles and elbows the girl then speaks gruffly "I'm Harry, I'm strong. Stronger than any of them and I want to be a warrior. I want to become better at combat things."
Duster47 wrote:"Harry, You can do that strong, young warrior. We will teach you to understand, control and use that fire that is burning in your heart to defend the tribe in honorable battle. Next?"
DM Arrakeen wrote:"I'm Benjamin. I've been around these two for a while. We all like the same thing." Benjamin adds, pointing to Anika and Harry "With Lion Blade's help we will be worthy of joining the tribe. Anywhere, far away from this craphole of a city is better than here. I want to be free."
Duster47 wrote:"Ah, Benjamin, it pleases my heart that you long to live beyond the walls of the gate. Some, persons like that, they feel safe. Though that may show their heart is weak, and soft. You're certainly not that. Join the tribe and you're be surrounded by hills, forest and stream with the north wind blowing freely in your hair.
Who's next. Say your name and something about yourself."
DM Arrakeen wrote:Falca looks to her brother remaining silent herself while Alan speaks "I'm Alan and this is Falca. Our family lived from what the land offers for generations. Now all this is gone. It's time for a change. If we don't have a steady place to live, no one can chase us from it, no loss." The responsible brother brushes off a strand of hair from his sister's cheek "Tribe family will help me protect my sister and I know how to grow food so I can contribute."
Duster47 wrote:"Alan, you and your sister, all of you lost many things. But they are things. You still have yourself and each other. Together you are stronger. Together with our Tribe, we will be even stronger. Also, your skills with planting crops are much needed. The Tribe's not too good at farming as we've been wandering with the wind for many winters. You can teach us. Next?
DM Arrakeen wrote:"I'm Dora. And I can fish all the best fish in the river or lake." Dora chimes in "Daddy taught me all the tricks. I want to continue doing that. And Filip would like to live in a tent and have a family..."
Duster47 wrote:"Dora, you're already a hunter. I caught my share of fish from the nearby rivers and sea. That is an important skill. You can feed yourself and those around you. A tent will be waiting for you and Filip, if you choose to join us. And the river is a short walk away.
DM Arrakeen wrote:"I could see all the forest bugs! Every day!" The little boy sitting in Dora's lap exclaims enthusiastically. "And play in the forest with bugs."
Duster47 wrote:"Filip, you and my daughter, Faldorn, should get along well. She's been blessed by the spirits to speak and walk with the animals, too. I'm sure you can both learn from each other.
Hmmm... who's next?
DM Arrakeen wrote:"I'm Draven. I also know how to live off the land and all farm things. I'll be useful. I promise" Draven speaks in conviction "And I know how to make everyone laugh. So when we camp everyone would be laughing!"
Duster47 wrote:"Draven, foraging the land is a skill we should all learn and know. It is something I learned when I was young. You can learn other skills too and share you stories with us across the fire, much as we are doing now."
DM Arrakeen wrote:"I like watching things. Oh, I'm Malor. All things. And play outside more than inside. And I would like to have a family." Malor adds quietly.
Duster47 wrote:Malor, the watcher. Sounds like you could be a scout for the tribe. Wander the forest and search for things or danger, then warn the Tribe. And you'll have a family if you choose to join the tribe. Each of you will move into a tent with a new mother or father or both. The entire tribe will be your family."
"Now that we know something about each other, do you have any questions about me or the tribe?"
DM Arrakeen wrote:"When can we go?"Anika looks to Nerys expectantly, her two companions are no better.
Duster47 wrote:Nerys glances at Sister Anne then Anika, "When is more up to Sister Juna, I believe. But I am ready now. I hope it won't be long." She offers an encouraging smile.
DM Arrakeen wrote:"If the entire Tribe is family... It means I won't have a mommy that is mine only?" Malor rubs his brow clearly in confusion.
Duster47 wrote:"Sorry to confuse you, Malor. What I mean is each of you will have a mother for you... and the brother-sister pairs, for you together. All under one tent. What I meant about the rest of the Tribe is we help each other, teach each other.
DM Arrakeen wrote:"So we will all be, like... Siblings?" Draven looks mildly baffled by the notion.
Duster47 wrote:"You'll be brothers and sisters within the tribe. Much the same that Sister Anne is to Sister Juna or Brother Ameris here at the orphanage. They're not blood-sisters and brother, at least I don't believe they are, but they are sisters and brother in service to their work here."
DM Arrakeen wrote:"I lost my fishing pole, can we buy a new one once we join the tribe? I don't have any gold coins, is this a problem?" Dora's smiles sheepishly.
Duster47 wrote:"We'll get you a new fishing pole. Someone will teach you how to make one for yourself. Then you'll never be without your fishing pole. If you're open to it, someone can teach you to use a bow and arrow to hunt fish."
DM Arrakeen wrote:"Will you show us how to kill an orc?" Harry asks.
Duster47 wrote:"Yes. Absolutely! Orcs are our shown enemies. An orc gave me this scar," pointing to the scar across her nose. "But I paid him back with my ax in his neck. When you're old enough and find the fires of Tempos burning in your blood and heart, then our warriors will teach you Tempos' honorable way of the warrior."
DM Arrakeen wrote:More questions follow and once all are answered, kids say their goodbyes and Anne leads the children upstairs sharing few words with Nerys first.
"Thank you for being so patient with them. Mercy's bless Emissary."
Duster47 wrote:"I appreciate the chance to talk with the children. I'll be around the walled village for another few days. Perhaps at the Temple of Milil or at my camp outside the walls. I hope you decide soon about this." She then looks to the children, "I hope to see you all again soon, but next time across a real campfire at our camp." She picks up her shield and moves to the door, "Wind at your backs," then leaves the building.
Re: Orphanage and Orphans of Baldur's Gate (Player/DM IC RP)
Mentor, Protector -- Third Lesson
Mendoza wrote:After fetching Nerys at her campsite outside the city walls, Dorne and the emissary from the Greyfox make their way to the Orphanage near the temple of Illmater. The pair gather up the few Lion Cubs staying there before heading towards the Pathfinder's Hall. Once there, they gather up the remaining children. He makes sure to point out to Nerys the three potential trio who showed interest in the Greyfox.
Duster47 wrote:Nerys greets them all with a smile saying, "Cool winds, lion cubs". Her smile lingers a bit longer on the three children.
DM Arrakeen wrote:The whole group greets both Nerys and Dorne with waves, nods and smiles.
Mendoza wrote:When all the Lion Cubs are finally present, Dorne instructs them to stand at attention. He then introduces Nerys to them, "Lion Cubs, this is Nerys Greyfox. She will be joining us for our lesson today. You all will listen to her and follow her instructions as if they were coming from myself, is that understood? He patiently waits for a reply from the group before continuing.
DM Arrakeen wrote:"Understood!" There is no confusion among the kids.
Mendoza wrote: "Today, we will not be practicing. Instead we will be taking a small field trip around the Gate to visit the various monuments of those who bravely gave their lives to defend this city." After explaining today's lesson, Dorne commands the Cubs to Form Up and they exit the Pathfinder's Hall.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Lion Cubs assume their positions keeping the formation more or less. Nerys being there slightly confusing them in the first few moments.
Duster47 wrote:Nerys brings of the rear of the formation, gently guiding any who wander back to their place.
Mendoza wrote:The group makes their way towards Ragefeast's tower in the Palace District. As they get closer, Dorne steers the Cubs towards the black obelisk next to the tower. "This is our first stop." He lets several moments pass, allowing the children to examine the monument before he speaks up. "Can anyone tell me who this obelisk is meant to honor?" He patiently waits for one of the children to reply.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Neither of the little warriors has any idea. They look to one another, then to Dorne.
Mendoza wrote:"It is important that each and every one of you remember these brave men. They fought and died for something greater then themselves. Nobanion teaches us that we should protect those that are weaker than us. This memorial is honoring soldiers who did just that, and we must honor them by never forgetting their sacrifice."
Duster47 wrote:Nerys finally speaks up, "A death in battle is the most honorable death of all. This stone is a constant reminder of them. In my tribe, we share stories or songs to honor the fallen."
DM Arrakeen wrote:Some of the kids turn a bit sad, others thoughtful or even mildly irritated but they remain silent. War and the lost that comes with it brings different memories in everyone.
Mendoza wrote:The group then makes their way to the second stop in the Palace District near Mudd. Again, Dorne allows the children to gaze upon the monument before speaking. "Can anyone tell me who this statue is meant to honor?" He patiently waits for one of the Lion Cubs to reply.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Riley looks at the others then speaks quietly, "I think it's a priest blessing us."
Mendoza wrote:"You must know yourself and your enemy. If you do this, you will be in a thousand battles and will have a thousand victories. This memorial honors those who fell in battle. Those who fell did not know themselves or did not know their enemy, that is why it is important to train your mind and heart as well as your sword-arm."
Duster47 wrote:Nerys continues the thought, "What Dorne says is true, for true strength comes from your heart." She pats her chest. "Those with a fire in their blood can become warriors if that is the path they choose. Also, those we honor here are also the victims of the battle. Many citizens of this walled village died in the battle along with their defenders. It is not their fault. Sometimes the enemy is stronger. There is no loss in honor if you are defeated by a stronger enemy. Our spirits are all honored the same in that case."
DM Arrakeen wrote:Few of the kids turns somber for a moment, but the mood shifts quickly when they are abou to move further.
Mendoza wrote:After finishing at the second memorial, the group makes their way back to the East District. They steer towards Aello's shop and stop at the nearby memorial. Once again, Dorne asks, "Can anyone tell me for who is this statue meant to honor?" Dorne patiently waits for one of the Lion Cubs to respond.
"Last war." Anika looks to the group then to Dorne.
"The dead and the living from last war" Andrew adds.
Mendoza wrote:"It does not take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle. You must use your fear, Lion Cubs. Fear of the unknown, fear of failing... Use it against those that would seek to hurt you or those whom you fight for. A warrior's mind is his greatest ally, but can be his greatest enemy as well. Do not let your thoughts be clouded with doubt. Focus on your mission and remember your training."
Duster47 wrote:Nerys continues, "We practice being warriors so that we are better warriors, as Tempos, the Lord of Battle teaches us. The flag with the fiery sword is the symbol of Tempos. The red on my shield and sash are in honor of Tempos. The red fire represents the fire burning hot in my blood and heart, where my true strength is found."
Mendoza wrote:Afterwards, the group makes one final stop at the fountain-memorial near the Pathfinder's Hall. Dorne allows the children several moments to examine and enjoy the watery spectacle before speaking up, "Can anyone tell me who this memorial is meant to honor?" As usual, he patiently waits for one of the Lion Cubs to respond.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Nicholas speaks up, "Its a soldier with a sword and all, so it must be about them."
Mendoza wrote:"Never has a man who lived a life of leisure left a name worth remembering. These men have a name worth remembering as do all the men who are honored by the memorials we visited today. For they all headed Nobanion's words, and so loved the ones they sought to protect that they accepted death. Always remember my lion cubs, those that fell may be dead but they live on in each one of our heart's, and their names are engraved upon honor's crest for eternity."
Duster47 wrote:"No one builds statues for the soft and weak. Remember true strength comes from within. It is not how tall or strong you are. I'm not that tall and certainly not as strong as Dorne, but we are both strong of heart, which is what truly matters. It should matter for you, lion cubs, also."
Mendoza wrote:As the lesson concludes, he ushers the Lion Cubs into the Pathfinder's Hall.
Duster47 wrote:Nerys brings up the rear again, answering any questions the children might have for her.
///OOC: Big thanks to Duster for your involvement! And as always, big thanks to DM Arrakeen!DM Arrakeen wrote:Kids in rather serious and slightly grim mood stay silent, nodding their goodbyes. Even the rowdy trio seems much less laud and unusually thoughtful.
"I think it best we go and talk to Sylvi together about Amanda; you can explain better than I, and I have seen the truth of what you do. If you can do anything to remove Amanda's fear, it would be welcome."
Rhifox wrote:Tarina does go with Ameris to speak with Sylvi, but she does not say anything unless spoken to. She goes only because she was asked, as she seems rather put off by Sylvi due to Sylvi's response to her original offer.
kleomenes wrote:Following this, he would go with her to speak with Sylvi in a free moment.
"Sylvi, madam, if we might have a moment of your time. We were hoping to speak of Amanda.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Ameris and Tarina find Sylvi buried in sorting laundry. Children produce an abundance of such. She looks up from her task and greets the Ilmatari and Tarina. "Evening Brother, miss. I figured we would talk about Amanda at some point." Caretaker puts down a dress she was folding turning her attention to Ameris and the shaman.
kleomenes wrote:The poor girl lives in fear, and has told me she hears ghosts; there's reason to believe these are spirits, akin to those which Tarina can speak to and see.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Sylvi nods, listening to the priest.
kleomenes wrote:It could be these spirits are seeking out Tarina, or instead, that Amanda has the same interest to them that Tarina does; that she will have the same ability as Tarina one day. Either way Tarina can be of aid; I have seen that she does indeed have substantial powers in terms of spirits, I'd go so far as to say that she may well have saved my life with her ability to rebuke them at one point; or certainly saved me a good deal of suffering.
Such practices are strange to us, it must be admitted. I was doubtful myself at first. But I believe Tarina wishes to help, she has been afraid herself before, and so she wishes to prevent Amanda from going through the same."
///Diplomacy 25, roll 7 - 32!
DM Arrakeen wrote:"Brother, if you think this woman and her shamanistic practices can help this child, far it is from me to object. I am but a simple teacher and know little about divine and spiritual powers. You are the one to decide the curse of any healing be it of the body or the soul Brother."Sylvi runs both hands down her frame to smooth her simple dress turning to Tarina. "Are you confident miss, that you can help this child without scaring her even more? And assuming Brother Ameris' suspicions prove true, are you sure and prepared to guide this child as long as need be till she can manage on her own with her fears and these spirits?" Sylvi's aging, scarred face bears neutral and inquisitive expression.
Rhifox wrote:"I'm confident I can, ma'am. It, it might scare her at first, maybe. When I first started-... when they first spoke to me, I was scared, I didn't know. But I learned, and I'm not scared no more. I'll tell her. She'll know, she'll know what it is. She'll know I can, that I can chase them off if she's afraid. I can guide her, yes I can."
DM Arrakeen wrote:Caretaker shakes her head gently "I'll be blunt. I always am. Miss, you do not strike me as a particularly confident, but I suppose it's how it is when one sees spirits." Sylvi looks to Ameris "These children all in a way have issues with abandonment. I need you to keep an eye on the process and make sure our shaman here will not abandon Amanda's care. If the child is really proven to see spirits she will need guidance, some structure, something that will remain a constant in her life for a longer period than just few days." She looks back to Tarina "And if the case of Amanda's nightmares can be solved just by getting rid of these spirits then it's even better and you will have my gratitude."
kleomenes wrote:Ameris would nod, and agree to this stipulation.
"I will make sure to see Amanda daily and talk with her. And I will speak with Tarina from time to time to ask how things are going."
He pauses, then smiles.
"I think it the right decision, Sylvi; it is why I asked to speak with you."
Rhifox wrote:Tarina just looks to the floor and says nothing else, letting Ameris finish the conversation with Sylvi. Tarina does offer the caretaker a quiet "thank you" before they depart.
After touring a group of children around the city with Dorne, Nerys stops at the Temple of Ilmater. She asks to speak with Sister Juna (though probably cannot) and therefore pens a quick message. She leaves it with the ranking person available at the time.
Re: Orphanage and Orphans of Baldur's Gate (Player/DM IC RP)
Telia would not bring up the note in the conversation, especially so after Dannic left the room when Sister Juna was visiting Pathfinder Hall. She seems content to wait and let the boy think over what she has written.DM Arrakeen wrote:After reading the note, Dannic can be seen spending some time writing down on the other side of the sketches Telia gave him.
DM Arrakeen wrote:Timmy looks to Telia, big-eyed and overwhelmed for some reason. He fidgets nervously taking the journal into his slightly paint and graphite-marked hands. The child keeps glancing back and forth between the little book and the sorceress. A bright, sheepish smile shows a moment later and he mumbles "Thank you Mrs Santraeger."
Telia would continue to ask Timmy what he has drawn and painted. She would always offer praise, despite the art work not being very good from an artistic point of view. She senses the insecurities Timmy has and wants to make him grow, rather than withdrawing into his shell. More so, she wants him to find something within himself rather than to look to her. Whenever Timmy would struggle with drawing, she would suggest things he can write a story about.
Some days later, Telia sits down with Mili and she reaches for her eight pointed silver star, letting the symbol hang visibly from her neck. She smiles warmly at the girl before she speaks, "Sister Juna has approved of that you can be tutored under the care of the Temple of Mystra, if this is what you wish. I believe it is Priestess Neela who will be your main tutor but I am sure that Priestess Aeili will teach you a thing or two as well."DM Arrakeen wrote:"I see." Mili nods, a pensive look on her face. "That also means you never need to prepare the spells beforehand. You are always ready Mrs Telia. That's something truly intriguing. And yet scary, come to think of it. You magic is in you, it's part of you. And magic is a powerful source, as dangerous as it is beautiful. I think I'm glad my magic is not in me. I don't think I'd be able to control such power." The girl smiles gently. "Thank you for taking your time to explain this matter to me."
She watches Mili's reactions before she continues, "You have a kind heart and I know you do not mind giving a hand around here. However, magic studies are difficult and if this is a path you wish to pursue, you need to dive head first into it and devote yourself. Perhaps, with time, you could even become a Priestess yourself. You love the Mother of Magic and I believe she loves you too, as she guided you to us."
Whenever Silvyr gets attention, he purrs happily. His soft tummy however would be a no-no area. He never scratches Amanda but he would look offended if she tried to poke his paws or reach his tummy and he would simply move out of the way. The tributes of ham are as usual, devoured.DM Arrakeen wrote:Amanda can be seen close to Silvyr whenever the cat is around. On purpose and without hiding it, the girl always takes the ham off her bread and keeps it for later for the cat. One day Lions would notice Amanda sitting in her safe corner brushing Silvy's fur with one of the brushes that were a part of the toiletries for the kids.
Unusually so, one day Silvyr drops a jam filled pastry in Amanda's lap and then curls up next to the girl. The cat appears to have brought Amanda a tribute in return.
"I don't want to pretend at magic anymore. I want to be magic."
A message is delivered to Nerys
Emissary,
I am happy to inform you that all the children decided to join the tribe and we agreed that they should be given this chance and opportunity to choose this way of life.
Discuss with your tribe when would it be possible for the relocation to happen. Be mindful that security measures need to be taken care off.
I wish for Anne and perhaps Lion Blade, if he is able, to be present during this occurrence. Please arrange all that needs to be arrange and let me know when you wish the children to be ready for the move.
I am glad this initiative comes to such good end. We and the children are grateful for this.
Re: Orphanage and Orphans of Baldur's Gate (Player/DM IC RP)
The young woman moves to where she can open her notebook and place it upon a nearby flat surface. "I would like to implement a tiered system," she begins. "The number of children that will need instruction surpasses the room that is designated for their tutelage, and I want to keep things as calm and efficient as possible."DM Arrakeen wrote:"You have my attention miss Keenan." The older woman nods, waiting for Alexandra to begin her presentation.
She indicates upon the first page of her presentation a sketch that represents three, with the possibility of up to six, distinct groups of children. "My initial thought was to do a quick assessment of their reading and writing skills, but I believe some of the martial instructors have already handled that task. I would like to coordinate with them and divide the children into three to six groups based upon their intellectual propensities, and then I can adjust the challenges in my lessons to accommodate the group with whom I am currently working. The more advanced students can be eased into higher level subjects so that they remain stimulated, while the basic skills can be covered with the students who are still trying to grasp them."
Obviously enthused at the idea, the young woman flashes a smile at Sylvi and then flips to the next set of pages in her tome. There, a series of diagrams that feature the layout of Pathfinder Hall and a jumble of arrows can be noted. "When and if Acolyte Ravel returns from Amn, he and I - along with you, of course - can stagger our lessons so that the children are not sitting in a classroom all day. Ideally, I would like to implement an orderly rotation plan so that while one group is receiving classroom instruction, another group is with their martial instructors, and another group is at leisure - playtime, for all intents and purposes. Working in conjunction with the martial instructors, I believe that the three primary classroom instructors can keep the number of students in each group between six and ten, which I believe will go a long way in keeping order and promoting an individualized learning experience. I do not want one single child to feel as if he or she cannot ask me a question because I am too busy with too many others."
Another set of pages is displayed, and upon them appear to be various lists of possible subjects that the Acolyte of Candlekeep intends to tutor. The list starts simple - basic reading and writing skills - and progresses into philosophy, history, and the arts, although this last category has a notation beside it listing Eldarian Al'maire and Alesea Abbot as guest instructors. A separate list, at the top of which lists Martin Ravel as the tutor, shows mathematics, sciences, and other related topics. "I have here a proposed syllabus and the pace that I would like to maintain, but I will - of course - adjust as needed based on the response of the children. I did not want to take the liberty of composing a list for you, as I am uncertain of your areas of expertise, but I feel confident that a woman of your skill can likely teach all of us a thing or three from each subject." Alexandra good-naturedly chuckles and then respectfully dips her blonde head towards Sylvi.
"I believe that there are some crates of supplies that were delivered by Darius Holding Company, and some of the items are meant for the classroom. May I get those sorted and placed while you review my plans, and then I can return to answer any and all questions that you might have of me?" She threads her fingertips together in front of herself and warmly regards the middle-aged caretaker.
Shortly after she departs from the Temple of Ilmater, Alexandra Keenan arrives at the orphanage. The young woman steps into the building and kindly smiles at one of the nearby guards. "Do pardon," she says as she slowly approaches. "I have with me a letter from Miss Sylvi to Revered Sister Juna. With whom may I leave it so that she receives it?"
