Spellbook and Holy symbol as IG items
Whole RcR thing and specially when it camed to wizards, made me remember about something that was present in one of my old servers.
Wizard's Spellbook and Preist's Holy-symbol were actual items carried in your inventory. How did it worked?
Spellbook remembered all the spells which character learned and know. IT could be given away to other wizard and this way the character could use all spells that book contained. Perfect for rcr when you have to buy spells again or to try and find some more important ones, which is not that easy and pain in the rear, but that's also how it should work. Other aspect as an RP and mechanical one. Wizard could be disarmed by removing a book from his inventory, he still could use spells that he had already meditated but he couldn't meditate new load of them without his book. Pretty much same thing happened with priests and their Holy Symbols. They couldn't use divine magic without symbol in their inventory, and they were connected with the actual deity in your character's sheet, so you couldn't use symbol of other deity than your own. In case of faith change, DM had to give a new symbol to the player.
Everything pretty much lorewise and with huge RP flavour. Many ridiculous situations were avoided thanks to this system, for example when wizards blew up the prison door after one night of meditating fireballs. It happened.
Personally, I would like to see that here. I don't know how difficult that might be to bring to life, but I thought I might bring it up for any case. Just a suggestion.

There is NWN shard, where Clerics have to have holy symbol in their left hand to cast spells. There was few, very rare shields, that count as holy symbols, other was made of Torches technically.
Rather simple to implement using spellhook.
It actually would be very great if these items coulde be visible to others around.
Spellbooks could be made so through new belts on the armor.
I like that idea.

In the new epic shop there are equippable drums with AC bonus and other properties. Something like this could be made for clerics, assuming there's an available somewhere graphic model?

For my wizardly characters I carry a book which functions rp wise as The spellbook. How wonderful mechanicly it would be if it was actually functional. Especially with glaring issues only an rcr fixes.

Re: Spellbook and Holy symbol as IG items
It would be nice, but I don't know if the developer effort to create a whole system for it is necessary. It's easy enough for people to just grab a book item or amulet and make a spellbook/holy symbol for themselves via the PC Tool, and RP with it. I've been doing that for tons of items lately.
That spellbook system does sound very nice, though, and would be great to have.

Re: Spellbook and Holy symbol as IG items
Hypothetically, I might support this as long as the items in question were not required to be equipped to any of the slots. I'm not saying I would be against items that could be equipped, but I wouldn't want to limit players with a new mechanic just yet. A spell book in inventory is fine, and a holy symbol in inventory is fine. If you want it to be equitable into a slot, then it should be crafted to do so, but not necessarily required to cast spells. I do like the RP aspect of this.
On another note, I wouldn't mind transferable wizard spell books, but we would need to discuss balance concerns and exploits. We would need to talk about how exactly a cleric would transfer their spells which should have several restrictions with their holy symbol. I see a lot of potential for problems, but with the right amount of effort and foresight, it could work.

Simply love it.
Even if it took up a slot.
For DM's to consider though as the above post said, if there is ways to avoid exploits, sounds like a fun addition.

No equiping.
They were just laying there in your inventory.

Tel'kiira are also sometimes used as elven spellbooks, as I've always (discreetly) RPed in Aeili's case.
