Elminster! What is he good for?!
Hello everyone!
It's been a few days since I've posted (Thank you real life Blacksmith forging!) So I've been thinking just on concept and also delved into the forgotten realms books.
So imagine a person obsessed with elminsters legends and tales (At least hearsay in the realms). This person wanted to follow in his footsteps.
So from what I gathered from the forgotten realms sourcebooks elminster had 3 cleric levels.. now the closest apparently someone done on the DB is
Wizard (26), Rogue (2), Cleric (1), Fighter (1)
Which I think maybe level 2 cleric spells (Cleric 3) might add flavor.
The build I found is right here! http://nwn2db.com/build/?214487
Will add some more thoughts shortly.
Aim of the game is to emulate the elminster power and your own interpretations are welcomed on the table!
Go for it guys!

well you are talking about a 21 wiz 3 fighter 3 rogue 3 cleric for the server which means you would have a 25 CL so *shrugs*
honestly if i was gonna mimic a wizard i would do something with monkey grip and two weapon fighting with a staff and longsword... that reference shouldnt have to be explained

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting says:
Fighter 1 / Rogue 2 / Cleric 3 / Wizard 24 / Archmage 5.
Elminster even cheats with the number of classes.
Honestly, I think the most accurate representation you're going to get is just wizard20/archmage10 on BGTSCC.

Re: Elminster! What is he good for?!
Mechanically it sounds like keeping to the caster classes to emulate him.
With the fighter/rogue/cleric then is there any actual mechanical benefit as far as the server goes?

fighter? not really unless you go 4 for specialization, but if you are not gonna melee then probably not
rogue, lots of skill points, evasion and able to remove more traps
cleric, domain powers/abilities/bonus feats

Re: Elminster! What is he good for?!
Yea fighter looks really the least useful out of the three Rogue evasion probably the best and cleric I don't know if there are great domains that would give a power spike off of just a few levels.
To me someone that is supposed to be a powerful mage needs to have ASoC levels the mastery of meta magic to me is the ultimate mastering of the arcane, Archmage is the other class that emulates the understanding of the very being of the arcane... To me anyhow...
Although I still haven't heard too many good uses of the Archmage class

Re: Elminster! What is he good for?!
I see good choices here... cleric for two domain powers and low level spells and turn undead that open divine might or shield (i dont know his stats though)
fighter bonus feats to take power attack to open divine might or shield plus weapon, armor and shield proficiencies
rogue for opening skills and evasion

Hey, I just lost it, And this is crazy, But here's my login, So PM me, maybe?

Re: Elminster! What is he good for?!
Elminster probably just has Silent metamagic Tenser's granting him Martial for using the longsword. Or, he has Permanent Metamagic on that casting. Or if he is an Archmage, it's an SLA.
With True Strike, for when he really needs it to count.

Re: Elminster! What is he good for?!
I would honestly just drop Fighter and Rogue. Go W21/C3/AM6 or W17/C3/AM10 if you prefer. Mystra as deity and take able learner, putting skill points in roguish skills. If you want to allow yourself to not worship Mystra you can get some of the Fighter stuff by taking a deity with martial weapon and the war domain to replace the level of Fighter, even though that is less than the most ideal thing to do. Or you could take a deity with the STR domain and take Cleric to 5 or 7 so you get 3rd/4th level spells and still reach CL30 (W13/C7/AM10). This would allow you to cast Divine Power and Extended Divine Power when you want to bring out your inner fighter.
That's how I would do it anyway.

Good luck with it
Because... he cheats.
Elminster has a list of Chosen Immunities as long as a parliamentary inquiry.
As well as a list of Chosen Spell like abilities.
Enhanced Con/Int due to Chosen feat. +10/+4 respectively. He increased his Int score using Wish spells.
And let's not forget his possession list. Many of which unavailable on the serve (bitterly disappointed), but would LOVE to see Elminster's eversmoking pipe.

Unsure what Epic class truly means, but 4 of those wizard levels are listed as Epic levels in the FRmanual.Fighter 1 / Rogue 2 / Cleric 3 / Wizard 24 / Archmage 5.

Re: Elminster! What is he good for?!
normal class range stops at 20, normal PrC range stops at 10
21+ levels of a normal class is considered epic and 11+ of a PrC is considered epic - i suppose for the max 5 level PrCs it would mean 6+ is epic, however in the case of PrCs you must be an epic character to gain epic PrC levels, so 21+ total levels

It's from 3.0 (rather than 3.5). It means wizard24, yes.electric mayhem wrote: Unsure what Epic class truly means, but 4 of those wizard levels are listed as Epic levels in the FRmanual.
