Totally don’t believe you, mate. I’ve pulled PLENTY of spoons, +1 gear and even no + gear from Epic Area chests. I’ve even documented it with screenshots, posted on this Forum!

That's because the loot system is multi-layered. And at the first layer it decides between some general types, one of those being "junk", and another being "loot tables". This choice is not based on chest level. IF loot tables are chosen, then the chest level will have an impact.

Be honest now...about the one “layer” called “If Steve’s took opens the chest, then....”.

 Yes, sure. Seems legit.
You're supposed to cooperate with other players and not act judgemental, trying to scrupulously determine whether every single thing they do falls within your favorite code of conduct.
By trying to lawyer every passerby you risk becoming that one guy who creates toxic atmosphere and makes the game unpleasant for everybody else. Might as well play single player in this case.

One of the most disgusting OOC encounters was with someone who assumed they know what my character's reasoning was (they were completely wrong, of course), and then threw a fit because things weren't going the way they wanted. They also completely killed initial feeling of wonder on bgtscc.

Don't be like that person.

i feel the chest system is good as is with no level restrictions

other than what has been posted above, consider crafting characters, that aren't power-built. they need to loot too, and gather components, or forage, or whatever they need to do to sell and/or help others. case in point, id moss. grows in hilltop 2nd level. i know there's a character that goes around healing others with this. has every rp reason to be there, regardless of level

If someone is running through a loot zone with minimal-to-no RP, epic or not, I just let them, put their name down in my IG journal with a note - NONRPer - I then know not to expect anything of that player the next time I meet them.

It's better to be surprised by low expectations than disappointed from having high ones. ;)

Similar story, once I was playing as a new character on Sigil. Refused to let someone join the party for IC reasons- "guys, that's an actual demon, let's not" and got yelled at in tells for the next two hours about how I was "depriving him of XP" and "targeting him" for "OOC reasons".

The dynamic scaling is limited to a few levels, and it doesn't really hurt you to have higher level players in the dungeon.

+1 to OP, bring level restricted chests back. At least in areas designed for the first 10 levels.

I find myself agreeing with OP and Laughingman, at least for the lowbie dungeons (kobold ruins, graveyard cave, etc.) I'm just thinking of totally new players who have no idea how to build their characters for this server. They will almost certainly be playing underpowered characters, so I can see how even a slight level bump could be devastating. My very first toon on this server would have been pretty wrecked by the current system if an epic character came along, I think. Think level 1 Rogue who doesn't have Weapon Finesse yet.

I've heard the argument that the level bump is only by a few levels at most. But to a lowbie, a few levels is a huge difference, isn't it?

CR5 and less don't get bumped by dynamic spawns. Not sure if sub boss spawns can still occur or not.

It seems to me that a few deaths, or at least situations that could be very deadly without retreat, are GOOD for early levels. The XP lost is minimal at that stage, and the understanding that tactics and caution are required is a good base to grow from.

That's distinct from the OP, I know, but wanted to make that point in relation to early areas being made to be less deadly.
