Warlock questions

Unread post by ervines101 »

Hey guys, new to the server, loving it! Just had a few questions

1) Is the eldritch mastery feat available at epic levels?
2) If it is, does it affect hideous blow dmg?

But......

Why would you go all the way to getting Eldritch Mastery and still be using Hideous Blow? You won't have the AB to hit anything. Best off with blasts.

A well built warlock with PrCs can have 48 AB, avg. of 136 dmg per round (not factoring crit possibilities), and 48 AC without extra buffs from UMD. But only 25 CL.

That should be sufficient!!

A word of caution - Eldritch magic is illegal in Baldurs Gate and in EVERY Flaming Fist controlled areas.

Sentence: Death - Though I'm not sure if thats in every case or just severe cases.

I'm not tellin you this to discourage you from playing warlock, but so you know.
Quite many still don't know this.

Mind you the BG Eastern Farmlands (starting area) is also Flaming Fist controlled.
(So don't buff up/down there) - like activating or deactivating hideous blow there.

Thanks for the advice all, I really do appreciate it (especially on where I should be careful casting!) As to why use hideous blow, Im building a hybrid caster/melee warlock with a few prc's but will aim to keep 30 caster level, more for RP then anything else, also I fell in love with a melee warlock build on my last server so here goes round 2!

With caster Warlock I presume that you mean some kind of DC build, and that is a valid path especially if you take a dip into a class that provides Turn Undead progression for that Divine Shield. Having your high charisma modifier to AC and saves is not a bad thing.

As for the strength based melee Warlock, with the right invocation you got the ability to cast infinite haste. Therefore, in theory at least, you do not suffer that much from your medium BAB progression. However, BGTSCC is a server where you should aim for 40+ AB on any melee build that is not popping in out of stealth to land hits. 22 BAB, +10 from strength, +4 from weapon enchantment is just AB of 36. Therefore you kind of want to replace at least 14 Warlock levels with something that offers high BAB progression. Namely, Dragonslayer 10 and Blackguard 4 could be a good idea to go for. As a high strength build your focus on charisma is likely to be lower, and therefore Dark One's Own Luck and Blackguard Aura can double your lowish charisma modifier as bonus to your saves. Not to mention that the spell penetration feats granted by Dragonslayer should help you penetrate through spell resistance. Oh, and feat called Northlander Hewing can help you get a lot more damage per hit, especially if you go sword-and-board.

As for mixing the two... Well, you are a warlock, so ultimately your ability scores do not matter one bit. In fact, if it were possible to start with 8 in all your stats, a Warlock would still be able to reach level 30 fairly easily. Warlocks only need to spam that Eldritch Chain to win the day. But that said, it is still nice for your build to excell at least in one thing, and I would encourage to pick either melee or DC based build for optimal results.
