Build request; Two-handed melee PVP build.

Heya folks.

I've a request of you skilled builders. I'll be RCRing into a new char concept soon, it's just the build still missing, and I'm not great with those, especially not melee ones, so I was hoping that the skilled char builders here would come to my aid.

The character in question is in essence a berserker. Think viking with a 2handed axe, preferably barbarian if it's possible, or a Norscan from Warhammer fantasy, out to fight the biggest and the baddest in the most bloody way possible. It's also a character that will due to... ...parts of the story that I'll not change pvp a whole lot I'd think. And having that be a thing, I'd like a build that can support that. I understand that spellcasters rule the game here, so that is why I'd like some powerbuilder here to squeeze as much power into a build as humanly possible, just so I'm not being flattened by every spellcaster I meet and piss off.

As far as gear available to me, I don't have epic stock, but I do have plenty of gold to afford hell epic gear. I also have a mithral fullplate if it matters.
The weapon I want to use is a greataxe for the looks and flavor of it.

If we can afford it, some survival would be nice, but it's not 100% needed.


...and please reserve your judgements. I know the ammount of cheese in my request. I already have a RP heavy few characters. I would also like a character that can have a strict set of morals and quirks that I can back up with ingame character prowess.

This, there's some crazy dps build that basically allows for like 400 dmg crits. Never could uncrack the code of how it worked on BG though.. maybe someone can link one?

Fighter12/FB5/BG3/WoD10 EDM if he's of evil alignment.

Fighter12/FB5/Cle3/AK10 if goodly. Alternatively; F12/Pal4/AK10/DC4 if you want EDM.

Fighter12/FB5/Cle3/DC10 if neutral. This one is slightly "weaker" than the others.

Human Barbarian 20/AK (or WoD) 10 has everything you need. Get CON up to 21 and max STR. You can use your Mithral Full Plate, but getting DEX 14 and using Mithral Chainmail will allow evasion to work which is a boon. This would be a Whirlwind Frenzy Barbarian since you want to use a weapon in two hands the extra dodge AC will be nice.

For Feats you want LoH, Power Attack, IPA, Icetroll Berserker, Iron Will, Extend Rages and epics you want expose weakness, epic DR and epic rage.

F/WM/FB/R is a strong damage build, but generally very weak on the defense. Barbarian addresses issues with AC while still allowing for solid offense. You are correct though, that casters will still generally win unless the player doesn't know what he or she is doing.

Here is a sample build I threw together really quick that you can use as a baseline. You could drop IPA in favor of Northlander Hewing which would allow you to get Extend Rage IV instead of III, but in the case of a whirlwind frenzy two-hander barbarian I feel IPA is better for the huge static damage bump.

4 levels of blackguard gives you 4 damage from smite. Not exactly revolutionary. Tumble, UMD and especially Expose Weakness is better.

Blackguard for EDM works, though, but feat heavy, and your AB takes a bit of a hit.

That's what it was! EDM build with weapon master and FB. I couldn't figure that build out to be legal for BG.

Here is a legal F/WM/FB/BG build with EDM. I agree with Deathgrowl that it is not all that impressive considering all the stuff you lose to get it, but I suppose if you want to go for a lot of crits vs. super heavy hitting crits (ie scimitar instead of scythe) the EDM will be pretty nice. ~3.5 + 10 (STR) + 20 (EIPA) + 8 (MM and EWS) + 4 (EB) + 14 (EDM) = 59.5 or about 180 on a crit. You could of course still go scythe for bigger crits, but in that instance the higher attack bonus and expose weakness will serve you better. I feel this build is still better with Evasion, Expose Weakness, tumble and UMD from rogue. However, figured I would at least show that it is in fact possible.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. It's quite a bit to go over.

I've a few bits I can't really move from. I want to use a great axe with the build. I'd imagine that just means loosing some power when compared to optimal weapons, right?

And why don't any of the builds suggested use improved knockdown? I thought that be quite a useful feat for pvping and such.

Now out of all the suggested, it can't be anything with a paladin. We're makign a savage here, who'll kill people if it means there's a grand bloody battle to be had. I am unsure if I can even keep him netural with such convictions. It also can't be the EMD route. It isn't how I'm picturing this.

With those parameters set, if anyone wants to help me sift through the suggested and pick the best of the bunch that fits the required? Cheers.


...I also have no way of obtaining a good scythe. I don't think there are any in NPC shops? I got no epic gear to trade for one that a player has, and my gold is pretty much worthless in those trades.
