Few goblins outside of abandoned mine that is positioned near beregost, notice an odd bird in the tree. They try to hit it with a rock, but the bird dodges, effortlessly. It,however, keeps returning. The goblins keep trying, and eventually get angry.
The emotions boil, and shomehow the annoying bird reminds them of a recently killed chief. The wise chief, that tried talking to people before only to get blown up. The goblins rile themself up, and amass a crowd. Soon, a chief goblin takes over the group, and yells about killing all the birds, all the humans, avenging the chief, and taking the world of theirs. The goblins cheer.
Adventurers, alerted to goblin poresence, approach. The "chief" doesn't hear them, absorbed in his motivational speech. Until one of the goblins points him out the people that are standing behind him.
The adventurers attempt to speak. One woman approaches them to try diplomatic approach. Except... she says: "I killed your chief!".
The goblins scream, and attack the group to avenge their chief. And in a blink of an eye, most of the group is dispatched, due to large numbers of goblins present.
One person survives onslight of thrown rocks, and manages to return to beregost. They alert the guards, and head to the temple, to bring their comrades back from the dead. They exchange few words with temple preist, who is upset at yet another trouble appearing.
On their way back, they encoutner yet another person raising their fallen comrade from the dead. They decide to join forces.
The goblins, however, are still agitated. A new "rock thrower chief", replacing the one that fell in the previous encounter just a short while ago is elected, and once again, their group is combat ready.
The adventurers approach, firing magic spell. A fierce battle commences, but... goblins fall. Where there were dead birds on the ground, now are many dead goblins. Goblin blood covers grass around abandoned mine.
The adventurers overhear a sound inside the cave. Someone seems to be crying. The head in, carefully, and encounter the two halflings that remain in that cave most of the time. One of them is fallen on the ground and his brother is unsure what to do. Is it a result of attack, perhaps? No. The halflign is poisoned.
Someone carelessly spread poison inside the cave, perhaps in attempt to finish off the wolves that used to breifly inhabit the ruins. The choice of poison was quite odd for keeping animals in check, and the halfling got scratched by one of the poisoned objects. And now he is one the ground.
Investigation showed that there was more one poison working on the halfling, yet, fortunately, group had enough suitable spells and potions to deal with the issue. After few cast spells and a few potions, the poisoned halfling finally sits up and seems to be getting slowly better. Together, the halflings decide, for the first time in many years, to briefly leave the cave and rest at beregost. They walk out, on brother supporting another.
The group however that was part of the goblin encounter, decide to investigate the area further. One of the people in it think that the poison might spread.
So they retrace the steps, head back to the room previously used as a wolf den, and find very little. There's a poisoned corpse of a wolf there, few dead goblins that seemingly got affected by another poison, but the traces of wolf lair are rapidly disappear. Do the goblins, clean, perhaps?
The adventurers decide to set the room on fire for a good measure. They do so, and the dungeon is filled with stench of flames.
Yet the wolves are back. Some of them. A small group of very tough creatures. They attack the party, and the party has a difficult time defeating them. Slowly, they start progressing towards the exit. The number of wolves is nowhere close to what was present in the mine the last time, but the group is not as powerful, so the wolves prove a challenge. Few wolves escape the encounter, the rest is defeated. There are losses in the party, some people need to be brough back from the dead. Again.
The group heads outside of the cave, stops at a campfire and discusses their options. Few theories appear, but eventually the decide to head to beregost.
In beregost, they attempt to inform the guard about more thing outside of city, speak about possible disease, goblins being defeated, but... the guard, after having a long day, snaps. He demands magical licenses from the present mages that are heavily warded, and orders to have one of the adventurers hauled off to prison for being an obvious warlock. Instead of praise, part of the group gets thrown into jail.
Inside of the jail, a guard processes the offences. An unlicensed mage is fined for 7 thousand gold. While the warlock.... the warlock appeared to be relatively unknown in the city, so guards in the end decide on banishment. The offender is escorted outo f the city and is said to never enter it again.
The group discusses the outcome of the events at the temple, meanwhile. Some ideas are offered, some are worried about warlock's fate. The fined mage returns and brings the news.
The adventurers contemplate what to do next.
