From time to time, a new merchant arrives at the Friendly Arm, a Genasi of the Earth, with marbled "skin" and deep, black, unblinking eyes deep like the darkest void. From under a wide-brimmed hat, this merchant says nothing, often standing for hours sill as a pillar, among the other merchants hocking their wares, waiting for interaction, while before him, upon a table within a stall, he presents a scroll with written list of the wares he does offer, mostly for trade, and only rarely for coin. Indeed, at the end of that long list of wares to trade are wanted wares in desire, so that any that may wish to make an offer, can do so with more likely a positive result.
The other merchants, the regulars who travel often to the Inn, speak some rumors to this merchant, the first being his name, or family name, that which he does not himself offer—being always silent, a mute by best guess—and thus having been given the nickname of Otto. Some rumors based in great fantasy say he has been birthed to the surface from the deepest deeps of the soil, some say even deeper to where the Dark Elf does roam, such that his wares are magical and unique beyond the common trader. Some rumor that this "Otto the Mute" merchant must be under total domination by a great wizard or warlock that desires to do business without being known, and such this Earth Genasi has little skills in communication beyond a head nod for "aye," or a side-to-side shake of "nay," when one does come to try for business with him.
But for all the rumors that are spoken so far, the regular folk of the Friendly Arm market say this Merchant Mute is as simple and fair as they come, so it has been seen. When an offer has been made and accepted by him, he has made good on the trade and the deal in good time...still, none can say where and how his storage of wares is accessed; others simply say better to not pry to hard, as unlocking unknown mysteries is not always wise. Nonetheless, the certainty of the trade when the deal is made, should be a reassuring recommendation to any that "ask around" about this merchant's background.
When the merchant arrives at the Friendly Arm, it would seem they always have something new—or something removed—from the parchment list on display.

A clean shaven Dwarf (except for a glorious red beard) leaves a note
"Dral Winterward requests the axe, how does 100 bags sound?"
PM sent
The mute, marbled merchant just stares at the dwarf, without movement, without reaction.
One might wonder if the earthborn is even alive, though one might also wonder if the marble-skin being understands the dwarf fully, as there are more than just one axe on the available list.

120 bags for the Emerald Boots.
When the hooded woman arrives and offers a verbal bid of coin, the marbled mute slowly turns its head her way—it is alive!—only to follow up the simple movement with a side-to-side shake of the head.
The dwarf looks around and sees a second axe and feels a bit embarrassed. He says more precisely the second time "I would like that axe" pointing to a specific axe now.

When the red-bearded stout points out his interest, now attached to his original coin offer, the marbled mute slowly turns its head his way, only to follow up the simple movement with a side-to-side shake of the head.
As the Dwarf may stand there and think, a person of little interest slides near the Dwarf and whispers: "Ye see, goodman Dwarf, that one there with the marbled skin be rarely taking coin, unless the amount is a King's Treasure. He be more a trader than a seller, aye, tis true." And then the person of little interest is gone, the red-bearded stout now left to consider what to do about the situation.
The Dwarf nods in understanding and writes down on a piece of paper a message and slides it to the marbled merchant.
"I understand your looking for trades, but I will have to go back and grab my stash before I see what I can give you. Please consider this number before I go walkin all the way back to my chest"
Kejmckin:
Doan Mordain: A sailoring dwarf Dral Winterward: "Loyal" Dolan Ironfaar: "You can learn most anything from reading a book"

The mute, marbled merchant again visits the courtyard of the Friendly Arm Inn, setting himself behind a table under covering, among the gathered merchants, without movement, without reaction.
This time, his presence is slightly altered, barely noticeable, like the movement of mountains, in that he has arrived and laid out an actual item, that is accompanied by a note, upon which is written in actually fine script, the word: COIN.

A dark skinned blond tiefling approaches the man, she points to the pirate scimitar and then she starts to show him a few items that she keeps on a bag, offering them for trade to him.

The mute and marbled merchant stands as statuesque as ever, while the planetouched passes item after item before his unblinking eyes, until...a pair of boots are presented, and with sound of the crackling of stones, the merchant moves his head toward here, and lifting an arm slowly, raises a hand before to, as a gesture that she should pause.
Without expression, he gestures once more by lowering his palm, turning the open hand into a fist and then curling outward a long, stony finger to point at the boot.
It would appear that the merchant has made a choice, and a deal is to be made....
