DM Ghost wrote: Wed Dec 29, 2021 9:54 am This is my personal opinion of course, but I think it is unrealistic to expect our playerbase to enjoy lack of magic for practically the entirety of ToT. Seems taking that hard stance would be unhealthy for the server. I would personally consider it somewhat interesting, but I think those of us who do are in a significant minority. But perhaps I am misreading the majority?

Things are of course not set in stone here, so we'll see where it leads us.
Here is an unsolicited suggestion: set clear and finite RL dates for when the ToT would “happen” on BGTSCC, and give concrete rewards to all Characters that live/react to it, both IG and Forum based role-play.

Knowing it is temporary, and knowing that there are rewards to being a willing part, an invitation to all, can eliminate dissatisfaction with it occurring. If a player doesn’t wish to participate in the Big Event during this time, they will at least know its a finite moment, and they can/have the option to “pause” their Character, returning when it’s done.

I, for one, would like the experience of something so “world shaking” as Wild Magic and no Divine magic, and how that will effect the “moment in time” for our Characters. But since it’s a temporary and short moment, it would not be any sort of inconvenience (though I do understand some players with a single Character might feel “obligated” to react, actually, no players is obligated to log in, at any time, ever).

FWIW.

I suspect it depends on whom the "player base" refers to. IF the player base [in this hypothetical example] predominately refers to 30th level casters without alt-characters, THEN I opine the ToT will be an emotional event. In my judgment, the player base also includes characters who are not magically inclined and genuinely look forward to a moment where their innate abilities make a difference.
DM Ghost wrote: Wed Dec 29, 2021 9:54 am Seems taking that hard stance would be unhealthy for the server.
The loss of magic (or some derivation of the theme) should impact friends and foes alike. If mobs and bosses continue to have access to unabated magical abilities, then yes... that would be unhealthy. If however, mobs and bosses suffer that same fate as our characters... then no, I do not opine this will result in an unhealthy outcome.

I suspect there are more than a handful of 30th level divine casters that will use the ToT to seek out the Avatar of their gods and ban together to end the ToT. If we only focus on what is being taken away, we will miss the endless opportunities the ToT presents.

Cheers!

I RCR'd some of mine as it feels there's far to much uncertainty with the ToT so far, so I bailed out ahead of time. And I rather be productive with my time than to see it waste away on someone else's.

Personally I wouldn't mind the lore accurate version of ToT. I wouldn't feel my character is unplayable if all magic is dead or even better wild, as Edelgarde is a scribe more than a Spellcaster.

I find both suggestions about rewards for opting in and the mobs suffering the same limitations as us to be pretty good. I would however leave unrestricted access at least for an NPC cleric in each settlement to the various resurrection and regeneration spells (may it be due to the proximity of the avatar or some other reason) in order to maintain the usual server policy about permadeath.

I play a sorcerer. Arcane magic dead or wild will have a huge impact on my gameplay, potentially downright traumatising. But I am not too fussed about it. I may opt in if that's how DMs choose to approach it. Particularly if I knew that doing so was something that DMs took note of and that somehow got to matter, like in the story somehow, or other kinds of "rewards" (using the term broadly.)

Though everyone who knows my PC may want to stock up on paper bags for her to breathe into when they meet.

You don't play here it appears.

I know for a fact, there's more than a hand full pulling their hair on this whole thing, some eye roll, other say they are done if X happens. Others are jumping up and down for it.

Some will be more affected than others, ebing part of the problem.

And I still have zero clue if staff will in fact go through with ToT given there's already contradiction info by staff here and there than I know of, so hard to tell what will really heppen.

EDIT: But this is getting off topic, some

Not sure what contradictions you are referring to. Everyone on staff is fully aware that ToT will happen. Beyond that, I don't want to spoil stuff. But it is going to happen.

I shall allow you to figure that one out on your own, then.

this is me defusing from it, rather than have to get into it. Not being rude, just disinterested.

Well chaotic magic options its more cooler then just turn off all spells, beside you can always rp about "lose of magic" and dont use spell at all ;) (when some other people will be have a option to use magic..but in chaotic way)

So, the time is getting close. as i heard. So giveni can't sleep,i decided to post a request here to the staff for more informations:

To my charcater the ToT willl for personal reasons have double impact. So in order toplay accordingly and dectently along with any changes, i'd like to know before.

1) She is an innate spallcaster. But i read arcane magic becomes wild magice and divine magic falls away, unless the deity of the character is near. How exactly does that effect bards?
2) With the second Mystra dying, and depending how it is communicated to the players and their characters, there may be a loss of faith. How can we players find out about it?
