Announcement from the Council of Four

The city has recently been the theatre of speeches and propaganda clashing against each other, while the general public seem to have perceived the Black Abbey's message in a hostile and suspicious way, it is also true that the supporters of the Dead Three within the city are not known to be vocal due to the local laws.

On the contrary, the speech of Lord Osric Vale finds ground to flourish and it is said that a few young men and women decided to approach the Radiant Heart to become squires, inspired by his words. On top of that, a few adventuring groups have found in that speech their next new mission and will be travelling to the East to join the war.

As soon as the climate returns to normal, all the town criers across the city are given the following proclamation. The Council of Four speaks.
Let it be known,

The members of the Zhentarim, Black Abbey and the Order of the Blackrose are now banished from Ducal Lands, and will be banished until further notice.

This ruling has been made with the following charges:

Zhentarim:
  • Threat to the City and its Security.

Order of the Blackrose:
  • Affiliation with Darkhold, enemy to the Lords Alliance.
  • Threat to the City and its Security.

Black Abbey:
  • Sedition.
  • Threats to Baldur's Gate and its citizens.
  • Preaching and use of Symbols of banished Deities.
  • Affiliation with Darkhold, enemy to the Lords Alliance.
  • Threat to the City and its Security.

In addition, Baldur's Gate proclaims that it stands by the families of the innocents that are losing their lives in this war and will sustain its allies in the effort of rebuilding and restoring what the Zhentarim destroyed.

So speaks the Council of Four,
Glory to Baldur's Gate

The Froggening

A most strange occurance is sighted in the Gate this afternoon. The known Thayan Enclave closes its doors for the day as it deals with a sudden swarm of frogs that takes over the building. It is unclear what caused it, as the Thayas spill no words to any who ask. From the outside, all can see a green mist accompanied by a weird smell and, of course, frogs.
Winter is coming... Or something like that, idk, you get the joke

The sounds of hammering could be heard outside of the northern farmlands this morning. Long beams of timber stretch across the morning sky as Flaming Fist soldiers and carpenters alike nail together the beginnings of a long stretch of gallows. A long wooden trunk is driven into the ground atop a mound of lumber. Citizens gather as the anticipation of a grand execution is to be set. A ledger remains staked in the ground at the worksite.

Hereby Sentenced to Death by
Execution

Simor Hinus - Public Display of Symbol of Bane and Preaching of Dogma
Seven Pirates of Captain Butterbeard - Murder and Robber
Peter Gilbu - Aiding an Orc in Murder and Treason
Amra Engar - Holding a Pact with a Fiend

These individuals will be given mercy only by death of execution in accordance to Duke Law. Aiding these individuals will result in following their example. The execution will proceed within the next few days upon completion of the structures.

The aftermath of a black rainfall and a meteor shower on the Gate is being accounted for. Losses in lives are minimal, fortunately, though damage to properties, as a whole, is substantial. Most buildings have suffered minor-to-medium damage and will need to be repaired.

The building that suffered the most was no other building but the House of Inner Light. A large part of a falling meteor had fallen directly upon the building, resulting in a minor explosion- dust and rubble flying in the air. When it happened, the complex had a good number of faithful take shelter inside of it from the strange, dangerous weather. The survivors that have managed to run out or crawl out of the ruins have stayed behind to help volunteers clear the rubble, to find other survivors.

After few hours of tireless work, everyone who was inside had been accounted for. Miraclously, only a few persons lost their lives when the roof collapsed on top of their heads. Most were wounded, such as the Keeper Runa Helvig, whose right leg was crushed and had to be amputated on the spot. Of the dead ones were found two priestesses: elven priestess of the elven goddess of love and beauty, Tia'tae, and dwarven priestess Danya. Both, apparently, have protected another priestess, a halfling named Lily of Sheela Peryroyl, with their bodies. The little hin priestess has survived, but the loss of her friends had left her in a deep state of shock and mute.

The temple complex now lies in ruins. The attendants and survivors mourn.

Word quickly spreads across Baldur's Gate that many, if not all, magical items appear to be malfunctioning or have lost their powers completely. There have been several cases of simple, rudimentary spells turning into fireballs of gigantic proportions, spawning writhing masses of nightmarish creatures, trees growing out of walls and, what used to be an everyday annoyance for all inhabitants of the Gate, mold growing rapidly in proportions and gaining consciousness

By the formal decree of Grand Dukes of Baldur's Gate, all spellcasting is STRICTLY PROHIBITED until more is known about the sudden catastrophe.

Throughout the city are fliers posted by a hand full of Flaming Fist soldiers featuring a rather insulting character of the half-orc legend.

Image
Wanted for Questioning:
Rhaeg

Description: Half Orc, Possibly Full Orc
Age: Old
Crime: Attacking a man in the farmlands outside of the city.

In recent reports to the Flaming Fist Mercenary Company, this half orc has been seen attacking people in the farmlands within Duke Land. The possible full orc has yet to kill anyone, and is only wanted for questioning on his recent crime. This man is extremely dangerous and should not be taken lightly. Some Flaming Fist regard his souless scornful eyes as staring into the those of a wild bear capable of breaking most men in half. Do not be fooled by his age, he was seen screaming lifting a wagon only months ago.

If seen, report immediately to the Flaming Fist. Do not confront unless cornered or necessary.

After a long discussion and a fine. The posters of Rhaeg were seen taken down from Baldur's Gate. The Half-Orc is no longer considered a threat.

Panic in the Palace District

Outside the Ducal Palace a mass of Flaming Fist soldiers flood both in and out of the front entrance. Word begins to spread that an unknown tiefling has been dragged out of the palace after an attempted assassination on Duke Belt during a dinner invitational. The man has only been identified by the name of Lazlo Kern, a name he gave the receptionist when he entered the estate. His location has not been given, but is assumed in the Flaming Fist Headquarters.

Secretary Merigold Isengale has stated the Grand Duke is doing well, and in his usual high spirits. Few details are given about the assassination attempt itself or its method, however this has not delayed a response to the city itself. Members of the city as well as those visiting will be reminded of removing their mask for identity purposes while entering and exiting the city. Any information on Lazlo Kern has been welcomed by members of the Flaming Fist.

Marching in the Palace District

The sounds of black cloaked soldiers are seen marching through the palace district of Baldur's Gate. Several of the soldiers hold banners depicting themselves as Flaming Fist First Company. There is a long pause as they stand outside of House Vale where they pick up a shackled man and haul him back to the Ducal Palace. The man yells "I'm innocent! I'm being set up!", before he is silenced with a bag over his head by one of the soldiers.

The large group gathers outside of the Ducal Palace as they bring the prisoner inside. Not a word is spoken as to the identity of this man.

An Evening Gathering around the Palace

In the late evening of the summer day, a half elven woman in a red sun dress passes a decree written by the Council of Four to a man with a short regal cap. Those familiar with this secretary would identify her as the secretary of Grand Duke Belt. The two stand at the ledge of the palace district as the regal man with a shrill voice begins to speak to the gathered Audience.

"Hereby today and thus forward for a duration of one year, your graces have decreed a stipend to the most vulnerable citizens of Baldur's Gate. This stipend will be known and proclaimed as "The Common's Courtesy". Its purpose will be to grant financial compensation to those families struggling to make it through these uncertain and chaotic times. The Common's Courtesy will grant monetary relief to citizens stricken by poverty, loss of work, or inability to prosper for the duration of one year. Upon the completion of the year, your grace Duke Entar will evaluate the loss before reinstatement. In these trying times, your graces of the Council of Four have heard your words. Those who have struggled since the collapse of the weave, unanswered prayers, and all of the inequities caused by the two shall be eligible to receive this aid as a citizen of the city."

Quickly added at the end the old herald added. "Adventurers do not apply."

In lieu of words coming from Waterdeep of religious unrest, the common populace identifying with the Mystran faith has started protests in front of the local Temple of Helm in the Palace District. The faithful of Helm, including some City Watchmen, are seen forming a wall- denying any access inside the temple to the angry protestants. That, in turn, is met with colourful paint thrown at both the temple and the defenders of the sacred building.

It doesn't take long for the City Watch to disperse the protestants with the aid of some Flaming Fist Soldiers. Though the initial mob is gone, the tempers are noticeably running high.

Sounds from the Ducal Palace can be heard as members of the court were shuffling around and preparing for the upcoming trial. Outside of the city gates stands the scaffolding of the gallows as the people prepare for any outcome. Fliers are distributed around Baldur's Gate depicting a blonde haired man with deep marks of stubble. Those who would be familiar of the sketch would know the man as Amos Blackrose.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

Amos Blackrose within Flaming Fist custody awaiting trial Kythorn 5th under Magistrate Kyemore. The trial shall last a day to decide the fate of the accursed Blackrose leader. Those members of the public are permitted to lawfully attend the trial, and are reminded to follow court procedure. Proceedings will take place on the evening of the 5th.

Construction in the Harbor District

Construction on the public kitchen for the poor has begun operations as several of craftsmen and volunteered devotees of Gond have come in collaboration to build the structure. The site rings out with the sounds of nailing and hammering throughout the harbor district. Those who pass by may notice a gathering of poor and elite watching the progress of the building. Voices of the optimistic poor can be heard shouting in excitement for the new accommodating building, while some of the wealthier can be heard muttering, "With this and the Common Courtesy, they'll never get jobs. This is pathetic." The crowds come and go throughout the day while the building is expected to be constructed through the month.

Chaos

Late night and early morning in Baldur's Gate have seen various events happen in quick succession. First, was the spontaneous combustion of a building in the outer city and beings of fire and ice coming through from another dimension. Then, the river Chionthar seemingly dried up... Only to release a large torrent of candy-pink-coloured water akin to a tidal wave from in-land- an event which had seen many who stood by the river banks and at the harbour's piers to be taken with the river. Most of those that were saved from the river's powerful current later died in great agony as, apparently, the water was highly poisonous.

There's a rumour of strange blue fires in the wilderness that, supposedly, cause all creatures to turn into horrifying monsters.

Thankfully, the Flaming Fist with the support of adventurers managed to bring the situation under swift control. The freshwater supply of the city is mostly intact and there are no more spontaneous fires erupting. At least for the time being. It takes two days for River Chionthar to lose its pink colour completely, but the citizen and the city officials prefer to leave the water be for another tenday before they even attempt at testing its condition.
