The Last Anchor RP Thread

In the rain as the morning sun rose, Derik made his way through the town of Ulgoth's Beard to the small cemetery there. Going to a particular headstone, he brushes leaves off the top then plops down in the wet moss covering the ground.

"Hello my love." He begins as he speaks to Lannia's gravestone. "It's been six months. I don't even know what to do about that, really. Declan is up and walking around. His first words were 'Amma', though there is some debate as to which grandmother he was referring to as they were both in the room. I'm not sure what hurts more, that you're not here to see him grow, or that he doesn't seem to look for your anymore. I doubt he even remembers you at this point."

He sighs, tracing a gloved finger across the edge of the stone. "Tellae gave me a royal chewing out, as well as she should. Ronja gave it to me a couple months ago. Same conversation. That you'd be mad at me for just not... going forward. Maybe you would. Maybe not. I'm not sure. All I know is... Gods, I miss you. I miss you so much. The song you used to hum off key when kneading bread. Your smile. That glint in your eye when you were up to something that probably would explode in both our faces. Everything."

"I know that eventually, I'll probably find a way to move on, but I have no idea what it is. Wish you were here now. Could use your help looking into missing people and livestock certainly, from a purely utilitarian point of view. I've been looking into ways that I might be able to talk to you, but I'm not sure you'd even remember me. Speak to Dead certainly isn't going to work because I guess technically, you're not dead, you're just 'ascended' or whatever the term is."

"I see you still you know, when things are quiet and I'm not busy. I see movement of curtains and I think it might be you coming in. I hear someone singing a lullaby and suddenly it's your voice. I see you ever time I close my eyes."

"I'll shut up now for a while, since you're off in the Veil doing whatever, I'm sure something important. But I'm just going to sit here a while if... you know... that's ok..."

And so the warrior falls quiet, a few silent tears streaming down his face to mix with the light rain. He just sits there as the morning passes.

A large party was held tonight at the Last Anchor, celebrating the birthday of Teris, the Anchor's long-time gardener and grounds keeper.

No one knows what day his actual birthday is, or how hold he is, but today seemed as good of day as any!

The place had a huge spread of food including salad, rice balls, and an assortment of non-meat snacks you could hardly imagine. There were many vases all over with myriad flowers of all shapes, sizes, and colors draped and placed about the Anchor, and fresh blueberry cake with a few different types of frosting, made by Teris himself and artfully decorated by Adrian Baker.

There was a great deal of eating, drinking, socializing, and coming and going by a large variety of folks and people, all there to wish Teris a happy birthday.

At some point, a game of Pin the Tail on the Donky got started, with Azariah taking first place and getting a large jar of home made lemon jam, Niyressia as an honorable mention of near second place. Derik Ranloss, the proprietor, came in dead last, not even making it onto the paper with the picture, but most decided it served him right as he seemed to get WAAAAY too much enjoyment out of blindfolding and spinning the 9 other contestants... Towards the end of the evening, there was also a game of dice played.

Eventually, the party started to break up and people went their way, some up to the sauna in the Anchor, others home. It was generally considered a good time had by all.

Word goes out around town and the ferrymen and such that the Last Anchor has obtained several hundred pounds of bounty of fresh fish! For the next several days, prices are down there for fish steaks, fillets, chowder and other such dishes.

A small party was had at the Anchor this morning, thrown by the proprietor Derik Ranloss. In attendance were Ronja and Talio Ruidhri Koel, the mages Sirion and Niyressa, and the druid Teris. The orc-blood warrior Vrok arrived by chance a bit late.

Mostly it was a breakfast tea for companionship and chatting it appeared. Others were also invited but were unable to come due to their various duties conflicting with the time.

The party was interrupted by a young man in armor making his way in after banging on the door... missing an arm! This issue was fixed by a timely Regeneration spell from Teris.

Apparently the man had been part of a party ambushed by some death cultists of one or another and while Ronja snuck out to investigate the town, the young man had a heated private discussion with Derik, which was mostly quiet till it wasn't. Derik seemed to recognize something the man named Delvyn said and the group was soon suited up.

From here it's not clear what took place, some warding and invisibility spells, Ronja was fetched from the town square, and there was some sort of fight not too far out of town limits. In this fight the man named Delvyn was killed, sadly, despite his bravery.

Niyressa and Sirion departed to attend Court, Vrok went her own way for the time being, and Ronja, Talio, and Teris attended to the bodies of the attackers while Derik returned to the Anchor to start some sort of preparations.

A ginger haired Cormyrian in dark purple finery, accompanied by a blue haired Moon Elf in a white and green dress. The couple spent most of their time in the room provided, although they made good use of the sauna for a day of relaxation, as per the directive of Derik Ranloss. Plenty of food was ordered, with a strong tendency for the sweeter, sugary kind

To Celebrate the New Year, the proprietor Derik Ranloss spreads word in Ulgoth's and immediate area that the next 2 days a Buffet will be put out and local residents and frequent visitors are welcome to 1 plate of food and 2 drinks free of charge.

((there is no formal event, just can show up with folk, RP getting food/drink, etc. Feel free if'n you wanna. Both for PCs and NPCs))

Sounds of merriment and silliness abound in the Anchor for a while as it appears Derik's son is making a visit from Waterdeep.

There is a fair amount of exhausted and exasperated staff, chased/played with/loved on house pets, and giggling.

However, Declan is not allowed outside, nor in the main room when business hours are operating.

The proprietor, Derik, is seen talking to John and Mara in the Anchor, mentioning that he is heading north to look into some things. He doesn't seem to divulge what exactly, but his pack is carrying extra provisions.

He then wanders into the wilderness north of Ulgoth's and Baldurs Gate.

Once again the toddler Declan can be found in and about the Last Anchor being a pest and chasing the dog and cat, and now that the Aboleth is gone he is allowed outside to dart about the village as well. Derik is seen spending literally every moment he is able doting on the child.

As the rain of fire from the sky ceases, Derik Ranloss can be seen hurrying into Ulgoth's Beard.

Sizing up any damage, he sets about helping anyone in rubble as he is able either through improvised engineering or sheer strength. He also immediately checks on his own staff in the Anchor as well as Teris to make sure everyone is relatively alright and unscathed.

As for the strange creatures that appear, while magic may be unreliable currently, his sword and shield are not, and if such beasts come near his town and people, may the gods who have fallen silent have mercy on them, because he certainly won't.

When he's not out in the south searching for lost staff for the Bladestone Foundation, which is often, Derik can be seen around Ulgoth's, making sure the populace here is in once piece and looking for any lost villager, especially Teris whom he has not seen since the Meteor shower.

When he sleeps is anyone's guess.

Other than returning on occasion for food and to check on the animals, Teris would have been strangely absent these days. The staff might mention that he seemed stressed and disinterested in much interaction aside from with those he is comfortable with.

In the light of current Oceanic Problems, the Last Anchor announces that until this situation with the fish and such being tainted is resolved, no seafood is being offered on the Menu.

It will be substituted for land-based animals such as boar, venison, and beef from the local farms and forests.

It is noted to the public of the Ulgoth's Beard that if they wish prayer in this time, there is a small shrine of Selune in the Anchor that is open and welcoming to those who wish to partake.
