Though summer has started and the cold and snow leave people's minds to give place for the current chaos, the spirit of winter doesn't relent.
A snowstorm like those seen during this past winter, harsh and unforgiving, assails the cloudpeaks.
Howls of Winter Wolves echo through the mountain range, as the activity of the snowy creatures rises
And Icedawn's House receives a guest.

Re: DM Rumours of Amn
In the late morning, a large group of armed soldiers and several richly dressed officials come to Nashkel through the Cloud Peaks pass. Their apparent leader, introducing himself as Hieron Ampbel, had organised a meeting in front of Mayor Ghastkill's house. During it, he had spoken the following proclamation:
"By order of the Council of Six, I, Hieron Ampbel, Herald and High Judicator ordained into the newly formed office by their great wisdom, hereby declare that all practitioners of arcane magic- commonly referred to as the Art- are henceforth criminals. The organisation known to everyone as the "Cowled Wizards" has been found to be a malicious cabal with deeply rooted goals of subverting the Council of Six's legitimate and widely-approved government for their own vile ends. As such, in light of the current events involving the Weave as a whole being unpredictable and more dangerous than ever before, the Cowled Wizards are facing total extermination as we speak.
Anyone who is found aiding or protecting any mages- especially those belonging to that dangerous cabal- will be summarily exiled or executed. In order to ensure proper adjustment to the new reality in Amn and its Border Baronies, my colleagues, my retinue and myself have been sent here to help and ensure a smooth transition to the new form of law-keeping. The local contingent of guards will have selected individuals specifically trained in hunting down and combating any practitioner of the Arcane magic- including monsters and people known for deep magical traditions.
I wish to express my deepest gratitude to Mayor Ghastkill for being a generous host for the duration of the transition for which we will remain here.
Glory to Amn and the Council of Six!"

Re: DM Rumours of Amn

An Answer to the Call
Several Amnians and some from Beregost make their way to Nashel to sign up with the Whitewood Vanguard. Each of the men and women seem to carry similar fliers ripped down from the long stretch of the tradeway. The group seems in high spirits, but seem to stop and squabble about who is going to get paid what. For those that see these peasants and mercenaries, it is clear there is an unresolved conflict amongst them.

Re: DM Rumours of Amn

A Crisp Summer Morning
Upon the morning of Kythorn 21st a noble by the name of Lord Kurtis Arencis sat down in his luxury tower. Upon the stacks of books and ledgers found itself a new arrival. His old hands wrapped around the book and his eyes focused through his bifocals on "A Common Cause", a recent manifesto written in Baldur's Gate. As he began to read it his face twisted and frowned as each word struck him like a wounding dagger.. And then, he turned the page; again and again until he had read for hours.
The tendays that followed the small village of the lord were filled with a completely new way of thinking. Lord Arencis became known by the neighboring city of Athkatla as the Broken Noble. Each of his servants became his advisors, and city began receiving a set income provided by the many hands of the village. The small village began restructuring to provide and accommodate its richest and poorest all the same.
Word of this small prospering village reached the lands of Amn with criticism by some and the curious minds of others. In other rumors, A Common Cause has been outlawed in a neighboring city to that of Lord Arencis.

The Trees of Amn
In the far reaches of Amn stands a stark reminder of the region's view of spell casters. As the tendays go on since the death of goddess of magic, Athkatla has exercised their stance on arcane spellcasters with prejudice. Bodies of these magi are left swaying in the execution grounds. Their limp bodies dangling the summer air, while piles of spellbooks crackle in mass as a burning fire exchanges their contents for ash.
The law is spoken. Spellcasting in Amn is strictly forbidden. Those who carry the ability opt to pay service to the local governments, accept banishment, or be executed. While this stance has been clear for some time, the further reaches of Amn have become less lenient. Those that pass through, visit, or make their way towards Amn will make notice of the many swinging bodies of those who practiced magic in the region.
Rumors travel through the further reaches that Nashkel soon may be hoisting its own collection of magus who refuse the law of Amn.

"What Will They do? Cast a Spell?"
Word spreads throughout the far reaches of the great nation of Amn. Some of the merchant's domain have made an offer to their citizens extending throughout the region. Any undocumented magus successfully captured with proof of arcane ability will be brought to death or banished. Their captors will be rewarded with a month's wages. Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of these uncertain times, as those spellcasters who once remained secluded out of threat of retribution are powerless. In the words of a local soldier who has boasted three months wages in the last two days, "What are they going to do? Cast a spell on me? Long live the Council of Six."

Agents of Amn report they have a source that a recent attack to the north in Gullykin by Devils was at the behest of the company of Scorpions. They however also believe the danger has passed and this company has moved their activities south.

Praise to the People of the Merchant's Domain!
The days proceeding the times of troubles are celebrated in Amn. While many of the citizens of Amn have amassed a great deal of wealth brought by the opportunity of the fall of Mystra, the numbers of these "Mage hunters" has faded away with their necessity. The Amnian government have made it clear their satisfaction on the eradication of these dangerous individuals. The Council of Six applauds the efforts of the brave Amnian citizens seeking out and bringing these arcanist to swift resolve.
While the number of active "mage hunters" has decreased significant, it is clear that the role of such has become more dangerous with the return of the arcane. Additionally those in Amn would could attest, the number of arcanist in Amn have declined into near obscurity. Only those with the loyalty and dedication to the Amnian government were allowed to continue their arcane arts. These magus are respected for their efforts as many of them were able to draw eyes to small groups of arcane dissidents who would skulk in the shadows.

Snowfall blankets the region around the Cloudpeaks, covering several small villages and Nashkel in unseasonal weather. The intensity of the snow varies - gentle on occasion, contrasted with full on blizzards that threaten to smother the town. The townsfolk hurry to seek seek shelter. It is said that the Everwatch, accompanied by many adventurers, made a journey deep into the Cloudpeaks. They learned there that the Temple of Auril has issued a warning stating that the snow will not cease until a shrine to the Frostmaiden is erected within the town and monthly tributes are delivered there.
Holed up in his manor, Mayor Ghastkill of Nashkel considers his options.

Outside Nashkel, smaller villages afflicted by the same weather are quick to kowtow to the Frostmaiden's demands. Shrines to Auril are quickly erected on lone farms and in outlying settlements that do not have Nashkel's resources, a desperate effort to appease the Queen of Cold and Frost.
High among the Cloud Peaks, the Temple of Auril stands alone in its bitter and cold austerity.

Meanwhile, Kervel Greencrest receives approval from the town's authorities to extend the aid of Chauntea in bolstering and fortifying any crop that has managed to survive the unnatural cold.

A Burning Opportunity
The recent blizzards bring in those wagons draped with a yellow and orange banner of Kossuth. Those devoted to the Firelord seem to take in the opportunity to bring in new faithful. Large pyres are placed around the city, warding off the cold for any of the citizens that wish to come and warm themselves in the refuge. Nashkel's citizens can be seen visiting the pyres offering gems to the fire in thanks and tribute to the Lord of Flames. Priests and priestesses preach the word of Kossuth, and offer healing from frostbite.

A WAR FOR COLD AND GOLD - OPENING GAMBITS
Credit: Unknown
It is said that a meeting held at the House of the Guardian between Mayor Ghastkill, High Shield Pergin Tandos of Helm, the Everwatch, and their assembled allies against Auril was interrupted twice: first to expel several arcanists that arrived to Amn in contravention of its laws, and second by the arrival of High Judicator Hieron Ampbel, the automaton Baron Forvik Trankret, and the Fire Giant Baron Magnus Skaelung, whose attention on Nashkel suggest the Council of Six are monitoring the situation closely.
Against this backdrop, the Everwatch make their first move. The shrines that had been erected to Auril in the outlying settlements of the Cloudpeak foothills are set ablaze and turned into large bonfires. Helpless to stop the might of the Nashkel's defenders, the villagers in those settlements flee in all directions. Some fear that the Frostmaiden will soon return her frozen wrath to the area and seek shelter wherever they can find it, while others who want no part in this war for ice and gold leave for better opportunities elsewhere.
Whether or not the Temple of Auril will respond to this provocation is yet to be seen ...

Outside the gates of Nashkel a large ice genie approaches the gates. The summoned ice creature is instantly shot with flaming arrows, and disintegrates back to its home plane. Any word, threat, or communication from the creature never reaches the city.

Re: DM Rumours of Amn
What started as a conflict between Nashkel and the Temple of Auril has escalated into a full-blown war. The Aurilites and their allies do not respond directly to the Everwatch's opening gambit, which saw the destruction of the Aurilite shrines in the villages that had kowtowed to the Icedawn's wrath. Instead, rumors suggest that the Aurilites began devoting their energies to finding allies in all places. Tacticians suggest this to be their most prudent course of action as Amn martials a truly staggering host at both Nashkel and Crimmor to suppress the Aurilite threat.
While bandit attacks on supply caravans to Nashkel do hinder the Amnian war machine, depriving the town of much-needed weaponry and raw materials, Nashkel nevertheless assembles a majority of its standing military to a forward base in the Cloudpeak foothills. Led by Captain Sinoc Haven and supported by Pryat Gilthisanthilas, this northern host readies itself to make the long trek into the cold climb of the Cloudpeak Mountains. A rousing speech by the Helmites saw the army to high morale, a much-needed boon for the long trek and harsh environs to come.
Meanwhile, the Helmite force from the House of the Guardian in Nashkel is led by Watcher Wai Li around the Cloudpeak Mountains to Crimmor. The march is an arduous one and interrupted by various setbacks but the Helmites' and their allies persevere. Once at Crimmor, they are met by High Judicator Hieron Ampbel, Baron Forvik Trankret, and Watcher Kaiten of Athkatla, who reinforce Wai Li's southern host with battalions of Black Tower mercenaries, the Baron's own soldiers and Athkatlan Helmites respectively.
Things go relatively smoothly until Wai Li reaches the forward base around the River Weng.
With the Crimmor-based armies preparing to march northward into the mountains, the southern host had split their forces across the River Weng: the Nashkel Helmites and Baron Trankret's forces stationed north of the river and the Black Tower mercenaries and the Athkatlan Helmites stationed south of the river to prepare the siege equipment. Just as Wai Li began her order to march, a dire Sending arrived from Athkatla, which warned of a massive flood that would overwhelm the River Weng. The Watcher quickly ordered the evacuation of the river, sparing many lives, but a massive tidal wave completely destroyed the bridges across the River Weng. Forcibly separated from their reinforcements, the Helmites of Nashkel move quickly to do damage assessments and regroup from their losses.
Those with their eyes on the Cloudpeaks themselves notice increased activity from the Frost Giant Keep. What that means, only those faithful to the cold can say.
All the while, snow continues to fall on Nashkel.
