Portents and Omens.

In the main square of Roaringshore by the break of dawn three purses would be found sitting out in the open, all sealed with a wax seal bearing the two headed coin of Hoar. It seems somebody had taken it upon themselves to retrieve ill gotten gains and offer them back up to their rightful owners. The seals themselves were black wax, the strictest reminder that these are meant for their rightful owners, and a portent of the fact that the Doombringer turns his gaze now upon Roaringshore for those familiar with the visage of the two headed coin.

A Few Harsh Whispers

All around Roaringshore the words of "Outsider" begin to flood the perception of the Broken Goblet. Fewer and fewer of the local pirates come to visit over the next few tenday as much of the primary business begins to wane. Some say the bartender stood up for those unwelcomed to the area, and others say he brutally beat five pirates to near death. Other rumors circulate that the number was higher, maybe fifteen or twenty. While the number is unclear, many of them agree he was protecting three or four elves and shepherding them through the village.

Roaringshore has recently seen an influx of people. Every now and then a new group- each a mix of humans, halflings and half-orcs- arrives, looking for a shelter and a place to work at.

All of them appear to be people that, for one reason or another, had nowhere else to go.

The High Captains have if to believe rumours, held a joined meeting in which they have involved only three persons of any note. Their names aren't known much- hardly anyone knows who exactly was it.

Still, it doesn't stop the hypothetical names of a various range of pirates.

Meanwhile, Roaringshore continues to receive more wanderers coming to it and settling in the pirate village. For anyone paying attention to it, it seems like these groups of newcomers have begun forming their own circles of friendship or camaraderie.

~Water Sleeps~

The Broken Goblet is abuzz after a smuggler ship "Lavenza" returned from Waterdeep and its crew has been spreading the news regarding High Captain Rensby Caine.

Apparently, his ship was recently found at the Sea of Swords by Waterdhavian privateers patrolling for Luskan pirates. It was missing the main mast and the rudder was snapped. Missing since the Time of Troubles, he was found on the ship alone. No other living soul- not even the bodies of his former crew members- were present. There are a few rumours about it, how he threw overboard one sailor every day to appease Umberlee and hear from her once more, how he fought sea monsters the likes of Sahuagin, malformed tritons and sea trolls. While the truth may never be found, what is known is that he was found wearing nothing but his small clothes and captain's coat, his body unkempt, filthy and malnourished.

Rensby Caine was captured by the privateers and taken to Waterdeep, where the magistrates sealed his fate. Known for his rampant piracy and chased with a bounty on his head, he was promptly sentenced to death by hanging- even in his sorry state. Some of the smugglers that have, supposedly, seen his execution say that he was brought onto the stockades set up in one of the city squares by the docks and his execution was watched by a veritable mass of Waterdhavians. After his crimes have been recounted and he was offered to speak his last words, the shell of a fearsome man screamed seaward "UMBERLEE, WHY TURN AWAY FROM ME?!" after which he hanged from the neck until dead.

Thus ended the story of High Captain Rensby Caine, which presents an opportunity for the pirates of Roaringshore.

The vacated seat must be filled once more.

Raided!

A village near the Sword Coast, just south of the Troll Hills, was razed to the ground!

The few survivors that made it to other villages and eventually Baldur's Gate recount that they've been taken by surprise by some group of men and women- all clad in red- during night-time hours. While the settlement was read for a stray single troll attack, they were not ready for an entire band of bandits engaging the defenders from all sides.

The adventurers hired to protect the village have all been slain. What remains is only ashes and bodies... And a single note- written in blood.

Roaringshore was engulfed in chaos as the hot-blooded pirates rioted through the streets. The air was thick with the scent of burning tar and the sound of shattered glass echoed through the night. Drunken shouts and the clash of swords filled the air as rival pirate crews clashed, fueled by greed and a thirst for power.

Amidst the chaos, Captain Dante Evenwood, a respected pirate captain, stood atop a crate, his voice booming over the commotion. "Enough!" he bellowed, his eyes blazing with authority. "The streets run red with the blood of our own brethren! This madness ends now!"

Slowly, the riotous pirates turned their attention to the captain, their eyes reflecting a mix of fear and respect. Captain Evenwood's stern gaze pierced through their unruly spirits, reminding them of the code they swore to uphold. As the captain's words sank in, a hush fell over the crowd, and the chaos began to subside. Order would be restored, but the tension and rivalry among the pirates remained, simmering just beneath the surface, ready to erupt once again at the next opportune moment.

Silence to the Songs of Doubt

After a long stormy night, the village of Roaringshore is surprisingly quiet in the Broken Goblet. A former captain of a local ship was said to have jumped out the back window of the tavern without regard for the height.

"Two broken legs they say" One pirate says.

"Heard he had company, a few others limping around." Another local comments over a game of cards.

While rumors spread throughout the village on who it was, and what was the cause there is something missing from their conversation. The common talk of the outsider, has moved from whispers to silence. The patrons around the tavern seem to leave out the ramblings any misgivings. Business continued as usual as it seems several of the locals have come to accept the bartender.

The Five High Captains recruitment campaign may have blown off course here and there but fair winds have brought matters back into harbour.

One contender and the crew known as the Tyrhang Reavers were sunk in a battle off Candlekeep and some devils were thought to be involved.

The Evenwood crew put to sea on the back of this news perhaps fearing a similar fate or some other plundering move.

The Blackstonefront Crew held fast in harbour not trusting to the seas for now,and rumour has it they have been recruiting more numbers than their boat might reasonably carry.

//ooc This plot is sailing along and if anyone has work done they wish to be included or actions they wish to take can you let me know if nt already done.

The Blackstonefront Crew returned the worse from their latest sea voyage. Both their ships tied up, damaged and unseaworthy. Most of the crew returned and some still carrying injuries of a fight.

Some of the crew slipped away Others began repair work at once and with pace. A few others were seen once again recruiting along the shore line.

Those that took to the Inns were frugal with their gold and early indications are no loot was had during their latest journey.

The Blackstonefront Crew ships repaired, more crew hired, returned to sea apparently on one last run intended to impress the Captains of Roaringshore.

In other news a long term visitor to Roaringshore and recent resident repairing his ship from southern sailings Captain Wild Gil Sikkok has reportedly died in a dockside duel in Velen, to the south. This reclusive captain obsessed with security seldom leaving his ship on account of securing valuables onboard. He has for many years been said to have been on the trail of the treasure of Torvil the Tide, a long dead pirate. Rumour ha it he never did solve all the clues he had obtained.

In a terrible twist it is said there was a crossbones on crossbones incident at sea with two pirates engaging each other disguised as traders. In the resultant fight Sikkok found his ship broken and washed ashore near Velen before later turning up at that town only to be slain in a late night duel in the docks and within sight of his beloved sea. Those of his crew that survived this series of events are said to have scattered to the winds.

The captains of Roaringshore invited those concerned to raise a glass of rum at the goblet for a fallen patron. They further stated that the matter of the fifth captain would be resolved soon.

On the night of Uktar 30th, fire consumed a house by the docks in Roaringshore. Locals knew it the home of Markus Yarnhand, and his wife and teenage son, Anna and Kory. The fire was eventually put out by dock workers aided by an Umberlant priest that used the opportunity to collect a tithe for the Church. The family has tragically passed away in the flames. Little is known about what started the fire.

Maybe the Yarnhand blaze served as some kind of sombre beacon and whatever the cause of that house fire three ships pulled into harbour in the separately during the evening and into the early morning.

The Evenwood crew tied up and many of their number vanished into the taverns and rumour has it they returned with contraband and chests of gold taken from merchants intent on safe passage.

Shortly behind them the two ships of Admiral Revar Doon tied up reporting they possessed a mixed bag of smuggled goods and some gold seized from traders for safe passage.

Both captains left their cargo in the hand of eager crew and made their way to a meeting of the so called Five Captains.

Hours later a rum filled Admiral Revar Doon was spotted around town buying drink and toasting the fleet declaring he was now the fifth Captain of the Five.

This was later confirmed by a statement from the Five Captains declaring he was one of the five and had special duty of the five to guard against devilish interference in the workings of Roaringshore. A title with a certain barb and responsibility of it's own given recent devil attacks on pirate shipping.

In the same proclamation Captain Dante Evenwood was appointed First Mate of smuggling. A move thought by many to keep his smuggling talent and contacts within Roaringshore.

Yarnhand may have been forgotten for an evening as much rum was shared out.

A STRANGE WITCH IN ROARINGSHORE
Recently, a strange figure that comes and goes with the mists has been spotted in Roaringshore. Muffled mumbles and whispers had soon made pirate think she was a witch, and if some tried to approach her, they came back mumbling strange words themselves. With a mystic reputation building around her, the woman does not seem to particularly care.

She is seen spending much of her time in high points, or in the docks, and avoiding taverns, watching the sea and its waves for long hours as the sun goes down.
