Huge Change with Crafting needs RCR
Guys the change to crafting wands and potions is massive to players that have built toons to do this work for other toons. It effectively removes the viability of large-scale wand and potion/ elixir use. I am not saying that is a bad change, maybe it is good, but I have characters that are entirely built around that use and availability of such items. For example:
3 characters level 7 to handle making of potions and wands are now obsolete and incapable of fulfilling that role with potions costing 28 EXP and a Imp Mage armor wand costing more than 682 exp. RCR of a 7th level toon is immaterial and all time invested is wasted.
Level 30 toons built with UMD to use wands as primary tools for survival instead of taking feats like armor skin are now no longer viable to use in places like skull gorge and Pirates Island.
Level 30 toons built without blindsight because use of wands to silence casters and dispel invisibility are no longer viable.
Level 30 toons built around the availability of Death Ward wands are now substantially weakened as leveling didn't worry about Will saves as much.
These are just a few examples but for those people that have spent countless hours building out a group that can be effective with wands, potions and UMD this has completely altered the game and made builds obsolete. Again, I am not saying the change is bad or shouldn't happen. I am sure there are reasons for it. But please give us RCR again to adjust to a change this large. RCRing a level 30 into a crafter to replace the now useless level 7 toons is seriously required.

You can still use wands/elixirs and now crafters just need to play their characters. This might affect prices, but likely won't.

Re: Huge Change with Crafting needs RCR
honestly pointing to potion crafting costing 28exp and thinking thats too much is wild!
As Lou said above, all this means is crafters have to RP a bit to counter costs... Honestly just the trading RP of doing an order would be enough to recoup the cost back with the recent changes (read: large buff) to RP Exp
And if having another character is too much for you (or anyone reading this), there are quite a few dedicated crafter mains that would be happy to take in orders!

Well my crafter couldnt make a wand because they only had 682 exp over their level. Throwing away 700+ every time you make a wand to me is what is wild. But hey why respect other peoples time right? Must be the same as yours.

I may be in the minority here, but I think this is a good thing. The fact that martial characters basically had unlimited access to all of the best wards is ridiculous.Ibnshaitan1 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 11:44 am It effectively removes the viability of large-scale wand and potion/ elixir use.

It would be a good thing, but unfortunately it isnt true. The cost may go up a bit, but those items are still in game and theres just an added cost to craft which is easily recouped with a few minutes of RP. It does eliminate self-sufficiency of a single player though, so someone who mains a martial character cant just have an alt (they dont rp with) to supply the main character with everything. That seems to be what this change targeted, and imo it does a good job at itRinzler wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 1:03 pmI may be in the minority here, but I think this is a good thing. If youre a martial main or in general dont want to have to RP your crafter, again, just gotta go buy it from PCs that do it, and there are quite a few of them.

Re: Huge Change with Crafting needs RCR
Beyond lore reasons, it is our intent to cut down on people using crafting alts that they log in, craft a bunch of items for their main/the auction, and then log out. The exp costs for crafting largely do not harm crafting characters who are actively being played, as simply RPing or running dungeons easily makes up the lost exp. It also encourages players who want to make extensive use of consumables to buy them from characters who make them, instead of using an alt for it.
There is no plan to offer an RCR for this change.
We can consider extending the auction house duration from 3 days to 1 week to better support people selling consumables on the auction, as well as possibly looking at the deposit fee to ensure it is economically feasible to use it for this purpose.

Re: Huge Change with Crafting needs RCR
I had planned on making a thread to ask why this change was made, as in my mind it would have absolutely no affect on anyone. However, after reading this thread, I see why the change was made, and I agree with it. This will encourage RP to get consumables rather than the anti-RP practice of using alts to get your own.

I've also been looking into migrating Mudd's storage to MySQL, allowing Mudd NPCs to be placed on both servers without the use of portals. (Though if you don't typically play on S2, that will mean nothing to you.)
No ETA on it yet, but another useful thing we might get out of it when it's done? The ability to allow player vendors in player houses: essentially a private Mudd variant where the owner could sell their items and their items alone. Also, if the UI can be reasonably modified to allow it, it might be interesting to add a search bar so people can filter items by name.
Edit: For reference, in case it helps anyone - a list of all the current crafters I'm familiar with:

- Nalissa Colds (yugo) - sells pretty much anywhere on the surface, sells primarily arcane scrolls/elixirs and any wands (provided she has something to cast the spell from)
- Lyrith Zaphydra (RavenCredale) - drow often loitering in Soubar, sells arcane scrolls and any wands (provided she has something to cast the spell from)
- Edelgarde (Almarea90) - usually found in Candlekeep, sells arcane and mid-level divine scrolls, herbal remedies, and arcane/divine wands
- Rose Rivineth (RoseMiriel) - unpredictable, wares equally unpredictable
- Sirion Te'dwa (Pimple) - unpredictable, sells arcane scrolls and any wands (provided he has something to cast the spell from)
- Ashenie Darakh (Ashenie) - usually found in the Shrine of Suffering, offers herbal remedies

This would be super amazing to have Dalo! Both of the possibilities!DaloLorn wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 6:45 am I've also been looking into migrating Mudd's storage to MySQL, allowing Mudd NPCs to be placed on both servers without the use of portals. Can we also make Mudd an IC thing? I would love to be able to sell my expired wands and poisoned potions without it being seen as OOC harassment.

Re: Huge Change with Crafting needs RCR
I don't think we want to encourage making a lot of low level alts just to flood the server with consumables without interacting with the game's world or RP in any meaningful way. I understand some people find that fun, but it's not really the spirit of the game.
I also don't think it's true that we design our content to be so difficult that it's not "viable" to complete without a full array of wands and other consumables.
