Hello, hello, my good Mages, Spellcasters, Magic Users, and fans!
As promised, on the heels of the Bladestone Foundation Martial Tourney, we are now announcing our planned Spell Duel Tournament! As some of you may or may not know, a Mage Duel is both a competition and a Mystran ceremony. A Mage Duel is an opportunity for those of us that tap into weave, to show our skill, to learn and exchange knowledge and ideas while testing our mettle. As such you can expect this event to be lead by a small give of thanks to the Lady of Mysteries, followed by a competition and hopefully a grand show of the wonders of magic. As all magic on material plane taps into weave, I would like to invite anyone, who considers themself a spellcaster, be it arcane, divine or any in between, to come and participate, show us their skill and give small thanks to our Lady for the wonders we receive thanks to her and her line. In a similar vein, as bardic music is derived from magic and Words of Creation, it and bardic abilities derived from it, will be considered magic for purposes of this duel. I also invite all of you who want to watch the beauty of magic to come and cheer us on, to enjoy exotic refreshments and be merry.
With that being said, any and all who use magic may participate in the Spell Duel Tournament, however please keep in mind that as this is a Mage Duel, magic is the key element that will lead to victory. Rules being as follows:
1) No weapons may be used in the Duel, with the exception of weapons created by a spell, like Enchanted Blade, or Shapechange. Unarmed combat may only be used to deliver a spell's effect to your enemy.
2) No scrolls, potions, wands, staffs or other magical implements will be allowed, as this is a competition of magic, not traders and coinpurses.
3) At the start of each Duel, up to 3 wards will be allowed in preparation and more can be cast during the duel, if both participants agree on lower starting number, they may follow such agreement.
4) Area spells will be allowed, however only in the case that they fit within the confines of the arena, if your spell overflows from the arena, or misfires or otherwise threatens the spectators or the building, you will be immediately disqualified even should your spell otherwise net you win, please bear this in mind and if you are not sure about your spell's size, use another.
5) Other mundane skills such as shadowdancing will be allowed, as long as they are not a physical attack on your opponent. For example you may use the likes of shadows to prepare a spell or deliver an attack with your Enchanted Blade, but you may not use grapples, knockdowns and such.
6) Leaving the arena during a duel substitutes a resignation, an opponent may be forced to leave the arena to same effect, but only as long as such is a result of a spell.
7) Conjuring allies is allowed, including familiars, they are exempt from the confines of the arena, but should they in any way threaten the spectators or the building you will be disqualified.
We are looking forward to see you all at the Warrior's Rest Inn on ((Sunday the 25th of May, at 19:00 GMT, I am moving the start up by 1h to perhaps allow more people to participate, since the last event didn't take up as long as I thought it might)).
