✦ APPEARANCE & PERSONALITY ✦

Physical Description:

She looks like a human, if not for her shimmering eyes marking her as something else: an aasimar. She has ginger red hair and a confident bearing, along with a wonderful scent about her. She tends to keep a messy and rebel bang, although it does seem to give her a fitting look for her persona. Otherwise, her hair has a lot of ringlets. If exposed, her back has some iridescent patterned scales, difficult to spot.

She likes to wear elegant clothes, favoring blue, red, gold and white colours - and rarely, black. What is rarely missing in her outfit is a feathered hat, of a matching color with her outfits. It is rumored she has a whole collection of those!
Psychological Description:

Rose is a rebel, but well-intentioned. She doesn't like slavery, tyranny and anything that goes too close to it. She doesn't believe in authority, but she definitely likes to assist them if they are doing something good for the people.

When she's in the middle of the action, she will rarely put up a drama if some ally did something inconsiderate: she values unity in a group, and she will take her time before retaliating against her ally and scolding or do what is necessary... but she will. Still she's driven by her good-nature, so she will always try to give a second chance to mostly anyone.

If she has a mission to accomplish, that most of the times has the priority and will try to not toss her life away. She tries to be level-headed, although it's not always easy.

Generally, she can't stand people abusing of their own position, nobility or not, to get what they want even if it means other people must suffer: those are the kind of persons she'll never understand. She could decide to kill someone and dispatch that one quickly, if that action would save a lot of people - because sometimes the rot must be estirpated, however painful it may be, to allow something good to bloom. She would not take that decision lightly, however, and that decision would probably haunt her.

She's a bit of a rogue herself: she's always been a brat, to the point her own father gave her the nickname of "Spitfire". She's such especially with family and friends, but she loves every single one of them.

She feels at her ease in the crowd and with everyone: not because she's an attention seeker, but just because that's the place where she belongs to. She doesn't like to drink alcoholics! Although she recently learned to enjoy drinking some mead - only one glass of Mother Gothal's Mead, in friendly company, though she found herself liking Evermead and Elverquisst too, but she doesn't exceed the one glass.

She almost never use her second name, Elizabeth, because she doesn't like it too much.

✦ RELIGIOUS VIEWS ✦

Image
Milil
The Lord of Song
The Lord of Song is indeed her patron. He represents basically what she believes in, so obviously she finds it easy to find allegiance with Him: art, spreading songs, painting, it's basically her life. When in Roaringshore during the Times of Troubles she happened to shine like a sun, at the Broken Goblet, she thought it was the presence of Milil and His favor during her performances. As a result, her faith and loyalty to Him got stronger. After what transpired into "The Rift", during the events near the waters of Ulgoth's Beard, her faith grew even further, only to find out that her prayers were actually answered by Him.
Image
Sune
Lady Firehair
Sune has a decent weight in her life: if she wasn't aware of Milil existence, she would have probably chosen Sune as her own patron Goddess. She does love to take care of herself, and she strongly believes one cannot love others before loving herself first. She is grateful to Nadine, a priestess of Sune, who performed the wedding for Rose and Mathilde.
Image
Selûne
The Moonmaiden
Although she doesn't pray Her directly for herself, she does ask Her to guide her little brother Theodore, in hope that she'll watch over him. She, however, became slightly more important when Rose made her wedding proposal to her lover Mathilde in front of Selûne's statue, at Shandril's house.
Image
Bane, Bhaal & Myrkul
The Dead Three
Rose definitely doesn't have a good relationship with the Dead Three. Bane followers tried to kidnap her on the road, Myrkul conjured hordes of undead in Waterdeep, and a Bhaalyn with a necromancer in Roaringshore gave her a hard time. She's definitely not in good terms with these deities and their followers.
Image
Torm
The True
She found herself closer to Torm and their followers, especially after they killed Bane... although she still misses a certain paladin who sacrificed himself to help Torm defeating the Lord of Tyranny. Also, a Tormtar helped her to forgive herself for the death of a child that was indirectly killed because of her.
Image
Tyr
The Even-Handed
Strangely enough, she's not a particular fan of the Tyrrans - especially after a certain trial was held.
Image
Ilmater
The Crying God
With Ilmater, she has a good relationship: she admires their desire to assist the needy and ease their pain, and the admiration grew when His followers even healed her up and her friends without asking anything in return, after contracting a Talonite disease. She is grateful to Ilmater after He took care of both Aela and a child that was ravaged and tortured by a creature, that goes by the name of "Valyxia".
Image
Helm
The Vigilant One
She doesn't have strong opinions about Helm, although she respects His work to protect the innocents. Some of His followers even manage to steal her a smile, for some reasons.
Image
Talona
Lady of Poison
She hates Talona. Because of Her followers, many people suffered in the sewers. Even when she faced a warlock of Talona, she was struck by a disease because of Her, or Her follower. She can't help but despise this Goddess.
Image
Waukeen
The Golden Lady
She of course respects the Golden Lady, since she does some merchant work occasionally, to sell some of the junk precious treasures she finds while adventuring along the Coast.
Image
Chauntea
The Great Mother
Although she doesn't have a strong affinity with Chauntea, she does recognize Her importance for humankind. Being also her lover's former deity, she can't help but to give a certain respect toward the Goddess.
Image
Lathander
The Morninglord
She does respect the forgiving nature of Lathander and His followers, even if she feels they can be relatively naive. However, she understands that and she definitely won't judge them.
Image
Auril
The Icedawn
After having a chat with Solaris and being in friendly terms with her, she really can't take seriously the Icedawn. After what transpired in Amn, what the Temple of Auril did to Nashkel and its people, her stance toward the Goddess changed: she now sees Her as the wicked deity that it is.
Image
Hoar
The Doombringer
Although she's not a fan of the God of Poetic Justice, she can understand sometimes the need of it.
Image
Cyric
The Mad God
The least He's around, the better.
Image
Jergal
The Final Scribe
She sees it as an old man who made his time, and yet He remains dangerous: she doesn't condone the use of undeath, even if it is to hunt down other undead, but at least He doesn't promote the random undead summoning like Myrkul did.

➤ Pact: None

➤ Ancestor: Celestial, Lillend
Rose knows she's an aasimar of course, and she was told she was a descendant of a Lillend: a celestial usually meant to serve the deities Sharindlar, Solonor Thelandira, Aerdrie Faenya, Corellon, Hanali Celanil, Labelas Enoreth, Lliira, and Oghma.

One of her ancestors was a faithful of Selûne whom, for the devotion showed, was turned into a Lillend by the Goddess. She is, of course, unaware of this.

The celestial's name is Amliass.

✦ BIOGRAPHY ✦

Family

Image
Father
Vincent Wintertal
Information Broker
(Alignment: True Neutral)
He is Rose's father; he's a known information broker in Waterdeep. If you want to learn something, most people should go to him to get what they want. Although he might sound and look grumpy to the untrained eye and ear, he just tries to keep a leveled head, to face the adversities that may come. Besides, he rarely trusts anyone outside the family for the job he does.
Image
Mother
Marguerite Charlotte Grifsteem Wintertal
Homemaker
(Alignment: Neutral Good)
She is Rose's mother, and she's probably the kindest woman in the family. In her young age she was too a brat, like Rose, but differently from her she managed to settle down and focus on what's important. She'll always try to help those in need, and although she sometimes may disagree with what authorities say, she knows they do their best to help people. Rose inherited her ginger hair from Marguerite, and possibly even the celestial blood since it is rumored (but not confirmed) the Grifsteem family did have a few devout Selûnites in their ranks.
Image
Elder Brother
Alexios Wintertal
Mason
(Alignment: Lawful Neutral)
He's Rose's elder brother, and that means he'll always be teased and the target of Rose's pranks: even in her adulthood. He is, of course, unamused by her antics and he believes she should focus on something more productive than being a minstrel - like becoming a tailor, and doing what women are supposed to do. He's a chauvinist through and through, and to Rose he's the personification of boredom.
Image
Younger Brother
Theodore Wintertal
Political Aspirant
(Alignment: Lawful Good)
Theodore is the youngest of the three. Sweet and polite, he's learning the path to politics under the guidance of a well-known politician in Waterdeep, to try and reach nobility for himself and for the family. He holds in high esteem his brother and his sister, loving them both equally. Rose always tried to protect him when he was a child, with the result of becoming naive but with the desire to protect and save others. Under the tutelage of the clergy of Helm and Siamorphe, he is learning his way to the top.
Image
Extended Family
Other Wintertals
Various Relatives
(General Alignment: from LN to CN)
Wintertal is a rather large family; that means there are at least fifty cousins in Waterdeep and outside. Rose, however, likely doesn't know most of them: only the closest ones, and she probably met them only during some family reunions. The family alignment floats between Lawful Neutral and Chaotic Neutral, with some rare Lawful Evil and Lawful Good members.

History

◈ Early Years: A Privileged Beginning
Rose had a spoiled childhood and life until when she decided to become an adventurer and an itinerant minstrel, leaving all of her riches behind her to follow her dream. Born 27 years ago, she's the second of three children within the Wintertal family: not nobility, but certainly a wealthy and respectable family. She has thus two brothers: the elder one named Alexios, and the younger one named Theodore.
"Since when they were young, she was mostly responsible for most of the pranks around town..."
Of course she always gave the blame to Alexios, but only if the pranks were minor. If something really bad happened, she used to take responsibility - especially if her little brother was around, of whom she was particularly protective.

◈ The Awakening: A Fateful Festival
Her desire to become a minstrel was awakened when she reached the age of six. During a festivity she saw an amazing minstrel, capable to make everyone shiver by the excitement, so good he was in playing the instrument.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
That day, it was when she decided to become a minstrel
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

To see if that was truly worth it to have her join the Academy of Bards, especially because it was expensive, they bought her a lute first of all. And when she plucked a few notes, in the right way, something unexpected happened: a globe of light appeared and continued to float around her. Noticing this and her capability to channel the Weave, and the desire she herself has, they decided to have her follow her passions.

◈ Academy Years: Music and Magic
Rose joined the Eltorchul Academy in the Sea Ward to train her magical skills, while to improve her skills as a minstrel she was introduced to one of the assistants of the famous bard Kriios Halambar. Seeing her potential, she was accepted within the Musician Guild (also known as Council of Musicians, Instrument-Makers, & Choristers).

It was expensive for the family, but it was worth it: Rose probably had a good childhood even because of that choice, and followed the road of music with a passion that was rarely matched by others. When she became a teen she assisted to several theatrical performances in both Neverwinter and Athkatla.

◈ The Conspiracy: A Test of Wit
The Academy Intrigue
However Waterdeep isn't immune to politics: in fact it's where politics probably runs stronger than in other places. A sort of conspiracy was born inside the Eltorchul Academy, trying to "dispose" of the owners of the Academy and casting the blame on the Wintertal family.
Through "legal" means, the culprit wanted to take over the Academy and eventually sell off the mansion to an entrepreneur who might have rebuilt it for other purposes. Their plan would have succeeded since they planted some fabricated proofs of Wintertal family attempting to take over in their attempt to achieve nobility. Written notes, fake contracts, all with a very believable sign of Rose's father.

It would have worked, if Rose didn't accidentally found them out when she spilled some ink on her desk, and the quill fell underneath. From that position, she spotted the place where those letters and contracts were hidden.

After that, when the inspection in her room clearly did not receive the results the culprits hoped for, she made her own investigations, asking the right questions to her room mates and eavesdropping a bit on conversation she shouldn't have, until she discovered who was the one who tried to frame her. It was one of the students there, so she returned the favor. She fabricated letters and a contract, hid them in his room through the assistance of some of her friends, and when they denounced the culprit, he was kicked out of the Academy, where she eventually graduated.

◈ First Adventures: Danger and Discovery
Once reached adulthood, she joined a small adventuring band to reach the Wealdath, but when they noticed the tense situation between elves and humans, they eventually came back to Waterdeep and each went on their own separate ways.
⚠ The Zhentarim Incident ⚠
It was when she was on her own, on that travel, that she was ambushed by Zhentarim forces retreating to Zhentil Keep: noticing she was an aasimar because of her bright eyes, she was kidnapped one night in the attempt to have her turned to Bane. However they did not expect a band of adventurers, managing to free her and all the others.
In the mean while, her brother Alexios became a mason, while Theodore opted to try and climb the ladder of politics within Waterdeep.

◈ The Journey to Baldur's Gate
Once more on her own, she returned to Waterdeep and after a few years she decided to take the road that led to Baldur's Gate. Without issues she reached Baldur's Gate and took a room at the Swords and Stars Inn, in the East District... and there, she met a certain person that is now one of her friends.

◈ Faith and Dedication: Becoming a Sorlyn
After so much time spent in the Coast, her faith in Milil grew, until she actually found herself in having a firm faith in Milil. Now more than ever, she believes that songs can actually alter the course of a war, or a fight, or a squabble, if the right one is picked.

♪━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━♪
Milil answered her prayers
♪━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━♪

She thus found herself with Milil actually answering her prayers, even if in a small fashion; because of that, during one of her journeys back to Waterdeep with her wife, she opted to go to the Temple of Good Cheer in Waterdeep, where she eventually learned rites and rituals of the Church, achieving eventually the title of Chanter and being recognized as Sorlyn. During the ceremony she was fortunate enough to see the Patriarch of the Song, who attended but (so far) has never approached.

◈ A New Mission
Because of who she is now, she decided to use her influence for the good of music and whoever's willing to listen, possibly attempting to create a shrine dedicated to the Lord of Song since, for now, she hasn't seen any in Baldur's Gate. She even found some supporters, saying they were interested to achieve that goal.

◈ The Harpers' Test and Fall from Grace
After some time, and thanks to some of her accomplishments in the Coast - and considering that she even gave new life back to the Phoenix Company, one of the Adventurer's Guilds in Baldur's Gate, Those Who Harp approached her to test her resolve, to see if she was worthy of becoming part of their semi-secret organization. However, she barely began her tests when suddenly she worked alongside the Dreadlord of the Zhentarim - Zerros, in the attempt to stop a greater evil that was about to fall upon the Sword Coast.
⚠ A Fateful Choice ⚠
While moved by noble intent, she went against everything Those Who Harp stood for, and for that reason - their partnership ended that day: although they didn't mark her as traitor, she was branded as someone irresponsible and unreliable.
The Dukes of Baldur's Gate, for the very same reason, banned from the City not only Rose Wintertal but also her wife and everyone who attended.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Only after a few months the ban was rescinded, with public excuses from the Dukes.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

However Those Who Harp stood by their decision, keeping her at a distance as she betrayed their beliefs once too many: even if they understand compromise, they couldn't stand with her choice - behind their backs and telling nothing to their superiors - to ally herself with a wicked creature such as the Dreadlord. For that reason, for that betrayal of trust, they eventually parted ways.
"Every closed door is but a new verse waiting to be sung."
Yet this rejection did not silence Rose's song. If anything, it freed her voice from secret societies and political intrigue. No longer bound by the Harpers' judgement or the Dukes' approval, she embraced what she had always been at heart: a free spirit.
Where they saw irresponsibility, she saw compassion. Where they demanded loyalty to ideals, she chose loyalty to people - real, actual, flawed, struggling people who needed hope more than they needed heroes. Her path thus became her own story: improvised, unpredictable, and always played from the heart.

◈ Present Day: Back To The Beginning
Now, once more allowed in Baldur's Gate, she intends to resume her work to build the shrine to Milil, although she has no intention to get back inside the Phoenix Company, as she - instead, wants to carry on with her own goals and not that of others.
From this moment forth, she celebrates her own independence - as she has always been, and she will always be, no matter the circumstances.

Future Goals

  • Becoming famous in the coast everywhere!
  • To get occasional employments by the Dukes for Baldurian festivities - for her own notoriety of course.
  • Find, create new stories to be remembered!
  • Discover new musical instruments to play!
  • Help others while she gets known throughout the Coast.
  • With the house built for herself and her wife, she's happy to run her shop "Run a Rig" in Roaringshore!
  • Allow normal people, like commoners, to have a voice - and if through her, so be it!
  • Actively work to preserve the songs, stories, and art of different cultures, especially those at risk of being lost!
  • Campaign against censorship and restrictions on art and expression!
  • Guide younger bards and clerics in both the arts and the path of faith, training them to be compassionate leaders who use their gifts for the good of all!
  • Other goals might come out as she stays in the Coast!

Heirloom Item
✤ Singing Butterfly ✤
This rapier was gifted to her from one of her former lovers. It has mostly a ceremonial use, but when the wielder swings the rapier it makes a certain sound that reminds the voice of a singer. It is rumored this rapier has the possibility to enhance the performance of an actor when impersonating the protagonist of a play, but that's really not true. In fact, she kept it mostly as a memento.

Plot Hooks

  • She dislikes the Zhentarim and anything or anyone related to Bane, but she's open minded - especially in the case of renegades or repentants.
  • Since she managed to thwart a plan to stain her family's reputation in the Eltorchul Academy, it wouldn't be strange if someone would attempt to target her directly to stain her own reputation in Baldur's Gate to get some revenge.
  • Since she had a few lovers in her earlier life, it wouldn't be strange if one of them attempted to find her to try and win her love again, or ask for her help.
  • She would be happy to meet a former colleague from the Academy, of course: to either play together, or compete in a bard off!
  • She would love to work toward the building of a tiny shrine of Milil in Oghma's Temple, or alternatively somewhere else coupled with that of Lliira, like those in Waterdeep.
  • Vincent Wintertal, Rose's father, holds secrets that could implicate powerful figures in Waterdeep or other cities. One of these secrets surfaces, perhaps endangering the family and drawing Rose into an intrigue.
  • Rose's connection to her celestial ancestor, Amliass the Lillend, starts to manifest (in visions? Dreams? Anything?). Amliass is trying to warn Rose about a looming threat tied to Rose's aasimar heritage.
  • The Dead Three (Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul) might have an old grudge against Rose due to her past encounters with their followers. A Bhaalist cultist might try to use Rose's own family or close friends for something they might be interested in.
  • Her elder brother Alexios, resentful of Rose's free-spirited lifestyle and lack of respect for tradition, is manipulated by a rival or enemy of Milil or Sune or Helm, who promises him power and influence. This rival could attempt to turn Alexios against Rose.
  • Ilmater's followers may request that she assists them in some recovery tasks, maybe something that disciples of Talona are chasing.
  • Rose's younger brother, Theodore, under the guidance of Helm's clergy, has grown into an ambitious politician with a goal to reshape certain policies in Waterdeep. Maybe a rival noble faction manipulates his ambitions, stirring up trouble between Helm's and Milil's worshippers by claiming Theodore is using his position to promote a certain moral agenda.
  • Selûne's worshippers approach Rose in searching maybe old songs, perhaps tied to the Moonmaiden and to the Lillend that is her ancestor.
