Battle at River's End

Post by DM Mimic »

// This thread will be used to organize player efforts in the coordination of the defense of River's End. This is an IC thread - please keep posts in character.
In lieu of seeking formal military aid, the New Arcane Liberation Front declares that it will stand by its promise to defend River's End. Coordinating with the Church of Mystra and the town council, Sierra the Red and her fellow Liberators issue a call for assistance from heroes and adventurers who represent only their own interests and not those of any regional polities.

Archon Yuri Lichelina would provide Rivers End with supply of Alchemists Fire, Acid Flasks and tanglefoot bags.

Alongside that, Yuri would help coordinate those he spoke to who wishes to aid in Plant Growth to make the area outside the town as inhospitable to an invading army as possible with vines and thorns. Possibly even hiding pits made with Move Earth.

Whenever he would find the time for it, he would be looking to acquire wooden stakes and caltrops for the war effort. Likely having the Vindicators back at Myradon Keep aid in acquiring the supplies necessary to bolster defences.
((I told people who will do plant growth to post here))

DM Mimic Note: The Alchemist's fire, acid flasks, and tanglefoot bags bolster the town's arms and armory supply! Once-delivered, the caltrops will do the same!

Sordoc D'gaffer can be seen co-ordinating with the defenders with to set up many sections of the approaches with thorns and vines with multiple castings of Plant Growth, cultivating the vines and thorns to slow any attackers as directed by the defenders. Often grumbling about the amount of work to re cultivate the land after such growth. He will also try to supply the town with some additional healing herbs gathered from the surrounding forests. He is also likely to be seen turning into a gargoyle to assist with the lifting and digging of trenches, and to weather the occasional stray shot from defenders.
DM Mimic Note: The plant growth begins to reinforce the town and serve as an additional barrier, a moat of living flora and vegetation that will slow down invaders and impede any who try to scale the town's walls. Healing herbs delivered to the town bolster the defenders' supply!

Nicho and Rachel will help with supplying town with various healing herbs and herbal remedies, most notably barks and healing-magic infused ointments. Other than that, rangers would provide several bunches of enchanted arrows to local archers and, when have time, set up Snares via spell, targetting spots with trees nearby first, otherwise coordinating with other druids with better placement of those magical traps. Additionally, they would help with Plant Growth rituals to some extent
(exact number of healing supplies will be sent to Mimic once we consider that we crafted enough)
Update: added note about placing Snares and Plant Growth aid, since apparently. they are in ranger's spell list according to SRD
DM Mimic Note: The plant growth continues to reinforce the town and serve as an additional barrier, a moat of living flora and vegetation that will slow down invaders and impede any who try to scale the town's walls. The snares provide an added level of protection. Arrows and Healing herbs delivered to the town bolster the defenders' supply!

A number of wagons bearing the colors of House Darius arrive with what seems like mostly mundane supplies. Dockhands and guards unload the items, and a blonde man is seen seeking the village Council for a meeting.
DM Mimic Note: Please clarify what are mundane supplies - unless I missed a PM, in which case, please remind me because I have truly received a deluge

Sideplay:
In her free time, between and before, the real tasks would be upcoming, she wandered through the streets. On her shoulder was sitting a squirrel, looking around with wide eyes...sometimes hiddnig the little head in the messy hair of the elven druidess, when the settlement was becoming too frightend for the animal. At some spots she was sitting down and inhale the atmosphere for getting used to that place. After the little fellow was also calming down she gave the small animal with finger gesture commands. The red-fured fellow followed the sign with jumps, dashes or postures. Also jumps through wooden rings were part of that kind of "training". Of course the half-tamed squirrel was squecking from time to time, as if would protest. But then a provided hazelnut eased the little revolution out.
If someone would be interested she hold a lecture about squirrels and maybe also about their favourite foods and how trees are growing.

Sometimes, casualy some colourfull petals were fallen, out of pouches on her hips. Completly out of coincedence...
Maybe, also the one or other flower in a garden would bloom, after she had whispered some soft words.

By all this, she kept Maevyn’s words in mind...

Eleven soldiers file into the town, riding two-by-two, with a Warden-at-Arms at the head. The soldiers wear the markings of House Lyonaler on their armor and the front two carry banners with the House insignia. These soldiers consist of four rangers armed with bows and short swords with light armor, and seven with light lances while riding, longswords at their sides, and shields, as well as heavily armored. The Warden unseats himself and approaches the Council of the Town, offering their support from Lord Aaron Lyonaler, who will arrive at a later time.

For those who might be sent out from the town to scout, the Town Council is informed that the Lord Lyonaler had spotted a small encampment of about ten, dark colored, and heavily armored men in a ruins once called the "Sunrise Spire". a few miles south-west of River End. This should be investigated by those with the talents to move close enough to scout it out.

The soldiers would then locate the Militia Captain and find a place for them to be of use as well as bed down.

--------------------------------------------------

The remaining soldiers at the Bridgefort begin to prepare for the coming days. Security becomes much more tight near to the Fort. The Gates are un-locked to passangers only after they show their faces and state their intent. The Lord of the fort offers the walls to the efforts to thwart the Goblinoid army, to be used as a fall back point and area for triage, due to it's somewhat coseness to Rivers End. Should the forces need a eastern rally point, the fort is available, as well as preparing it as a hospital and refuge for the peoples of the town and surrounding area, should they need to flee. Food stores, medicines, and bedding begins to be prepared within the walls.
DM Mimic Note: The House Lyonaler soldiers join the defense force at River's End, bolstering the town's troop count and defensive power!

A tiefling wearing a purple tunic over chain armor arrives, leading a pack-horse pulling a cart. Vaile Redhardt, known apothecary and acolyte of Talona, smiles, pointedly ignoring any comments about her fiendish heritage of the symbol of Talona fitted openly on her belt.

"Hi!" she would great the guard at the garrison. "I just came to drop this off." She gestures to a pair of crates in the cart, one roughly a 2-foot cube, the long a heavy, long crate of about 6 feet long. Both of the crates would have the symbol of Talona, and purple triangle with three golden teardrops, freshly painted onto them.

The larger crate is hefted off first, rattling inside with wood and metal, it is stuffed with an assortment of simple but high quality weapons and armor.

Next, and with much more care, the second crate is retrieved. "40 doses of Barkskin potion. It won't last all day, but it should last longer than most fights."

((Weapons and armor are simple +4, and Items may be collected at the DMs convenience, or rejected.))

DM Mimic Note: The weapons and armor are accepted and have bolstered the arms and armory supply for the town! The potions are viewed with deep skepticism and fear by the vast majority of the militia except for one militia member, who for some reason hoards most of the potions. Then, as a gallows-humor prank, he slips a few into the militia's supply of other potions, causing the militia members to wonder if they might be poisoned everytime they drink any potion ...

As the battle for River's End starts to gear up, Derik Ranloss spends several hours in his office.

Here he toys and tinkers with the patrol routes and guard duties posts to funnel as many resources as possible. Leaving patrols at 2/3 strength and the Lighthouse/Dock and the Foundation itself at 1/2 security strength he diverts 10 guards to the defense of the town led by Lt. Nicholas Whyte (named BSF NPC).

Derik will also leave postings in the school for any Advanced Students who wish to participate may do so at their discretion but to be aware the situation is highly dangerous. (clearly DM's discretion as to any effectiveness of this)

With guards he will send:
1) An assortment of the School's spare weaponry and armor, including spears, shields, assorted simpler 1 handed weapons, crossbows, etc that are used for training.
2) A supply of Smelling Salts and Bandages from the Infirmary, likely resulting in a temporary stock shortage at the Foundation itself.

The Red and Green clad guardsmen will depart immediately so that they can set up and integrate into their defenses while Nicholas shows any local villagers/volunteers how to use the weaponry brought in the Foundation's single wagon. (He is ICly one of the off-camera instructors) Students interested may leave with them or go there on their own. ((what pcs will be there will depend on availability on that day))
DM Mimic Note: Ten guards from the Bladestone Foundation join the River's End defenders! The spare weaponry and armor bolster the town's supply and armory, as well as that of the smelling salts and bandages. The limited training that Nicholas is able to provide helps to improve the town militia's capabilities!

Military Support
Image
Under orders of their Archon, The Myradon Vindicators send out a squad to aid in the defence once all work at Myradon Keep is complete. Their orders are quite simple: To exercise extreme caution and return alive, to keep watch to not be left out of position. This unit is sent to operate as a Supportive Rapid Response Force and plug gaps in at points where the militia or nALF require aid. Be it to help with a momentary push, or to provide assistance in a retreat.

All having been equipped with 3 potions of heal each, and newly purchased armour and weapons. Some quite possibly already at the town already, others delivering additional supply aid. No doubt in the form of wooden stakes or barbed wire with additional delivery of choking powder.

Vindicator Rapid Response Squad: (Named NPC)
Squad Leader: Serrani Windrider (Archer)
Second in Command: Candor (Greatswordsman)
Lysandra (Heavy Infantry)
Kaelin (Ranger/Scout)
Grukk (Wizard)

For those in the know it seems likely that Candor was put in a second in command position with a stern reminder to remain calm and achieve victory to hope at retrieving Ivarra. And if anything this is in part a test to see how the individual members can perform in their first Siege scenario.
"Hold the line, hold formation, return alive. Show them what you're made of, for Peace!" - Archon Yuri Lichelina as he watches the squad leave the Keep.
As the squad makes itself comfortable in Rivers End, there's no doubt they'll be working under the Archons orders to bolster the existing fortifications and make themselves familiar with the lay of the ground.
((If allowed, I'll buy them +3 weapons and body armour where applicable.))
DM Mimic Note: The Vindicators' Support Rapid Response Unit joins River's End's defenders! //The gear purchase is okay, please be sure to hand the items over when you have a chance.

One day before assault of Cyric forces, Storm Sister will arrive to River's End to provide Auril's blessings and healing, for those who are willing to accept it. Winged priestess also summons few ice elementals to reinforce defence and offers specific berries to people she trust, claiming that eating them protects from Divine Conversion.
DM Mimic Note: Before the Town Council accepts the Storm Sister's aid, they will verify if it comes with any expectations of payment or other consideration first. Please confirm!

As the Kelemvorites in Baldur's Gate receive news of the Cyricst's threats and demands on the town of River's End, information is gathered and discussions begin on what they will contribute towards aiding the plight of the town.
