While on a recent visit into the village of Ulgoth's, the High Ranger of the Green Enclave was tasked wtih inspecting the lighthouse and area immediately surrounding it. Part of the small cliffside had fallen into the water and it didn't seem safe to stand on too near the edge. She knelt on a safer piece of ground and spent several moments looking over rot and decay. Concern that clouded her eyes was replaced by a smile that lifted the corners of her mouth as she realized the rot and decay were a normal part of nature's cycle rather than any sort of leftover abyssal taint. While there, she carefully cleaned rot away from small plants that were trying to grow, giving them room to thrive. She prayed quietly as she worked, asking the Forest Queen to bless her efforts and those of the others in various parts of Ulgoth's. When finished, she sat back on her heels, wiped her brow, and her smile grew as she was certain this small bit of land would soon be thriving and beautiful again.

The Demonic presence that had persisted off the coast of the small town of Ulgoth's Beard appears to have been purged. Tales of fights with giant oceanic worms that resembled in some way the tree of eyes that had been in the town, and trips to the Abyss likely abound in various ways. ((Thank you DM Faith and SC!))

With this corruption gone, and his dispensation from the Dukes allowing him and a small entourage to enter the guarded town's ruins, Derik Ranloss would be seen passing through the town. Possibly accompanied by Lylan'synor and Adrian Baker, the resident of the fishing village would be seen taking measurements and stock of various ruins and plots in the area, discussing where best to lay new foundations and disperse the wagons of Chauntean blessed topsoil and fertilizer that had been acquired.

The High Ranger had been sitting around the fire near the gate of the Friendly Arm Inn and getting to know a druid new to the area while visiting with other friends not seen in a while. As she was visiting, a quiet conversation happened inside her head. The result of that conversation led her to the outskirts of Ulgoth's where she spent the rest of her evening patrolling, ensuring the wilds were safe and pausing to look over the recovery of the small town and beach from her perch on a cliff high above.

Derik Ranloss, resident and business owner of Ulgoth's Beard before the demonic invasion and destruction, can now semi-regularly be seen in the town's main area wading through the rot and leftovers of the destroyed buildings.

He mostly at this point is seen clearing debris and rot that would poison the local pond or keep buildings from being repaired and rebuilt. There is also indication he has several wagons full of blessed soil to import into the town when it is cleared enough to help with the immediate farms and greenery restoration, but he has yet to bring that in.

While he is content to work alone with the one-horse wagon he's dragged up from the Bladestone Foundation to clear rubble and the like, he does have permission from the Dukes to let a few others at a time accompany him and does not likely turn down the help. If that restriction is even in place still...

Given the potential danger of pirates and scavengers with less than honest intent, he does remain armed while working.

Silian Gein would be seen visiting the village of Ulgoth's Beard.

The genasi is seen helping clear the rubble and singing curse songs to kill of the hostile mosquito swarms.

Likely much of the former village is soon covered by mosquito corpses.

Occasionally pulled towards the bird nests, with absent gazes of admiration, Silian soon retires back to the Company Lodge as he exhausts himself with the songs.

The Chauntean druid, and Close One of the temple in Greenest, Seharan Cobbler travels with Derik Ranloss into Ulgoth's Beard - alongside Ranloss' wagons of blessed soil, and her own entourage.

She was leading her pack horse that was carrying loaded saddlebags of equipment, four ox-driven wagons loaded with a mulch, a tent and a table, seed bags, plants in pots, and tools of all kinds. Walking beside her is an oak tree she has animated using druidic magic, and a crew of laborers she had hired - 15 man strong.

She has long awaited the opportunity to visit the little village she had been hearing so much about. As they arrived, the first thing to register to her senses was the smell. It was somewhere between rancid and dusty. But she was used to worse smells and her discomfort showed only briefly while her nostrils adjusted. The sight of the landscape was far worse than the smell. The soil was dead and done - there was nothing left to improve upon. And the silence was deafening. There were no birds, no bees, and no critters rustling in the bushes (because there were no bushes or critters) - just a harsh wind blowing in from the shore, whirling up dust that was so dead it might as well have been ash. Some of it probably was ash. At least ash is clean. She crouched down and touched the earth with her hands and dug a little into it. She winced visibly as her touch confirmed what her eyes could see.

As they walked towards what used to be fields, she let her eyes wander over the area, her mind already working hard to figure out what the first steps were going to be - where the soil needed to go, her eyes darting around, measuring lengths with her eyes. She then addresses the warrior from the Bladestone Foundation.

"We're going to need as many hands we can get. The soil you brought is good, but what we especially need is mulch. Just dirt isn't enough. We'll need farms to donate soiled hay, manure, dung, wood chips and charcoal. As much as we can possibly get our hands on. We have some with us, but we will need more. We will cover this entire area in mulch. And any seed to be planted should be planted into the mulch, and never into the earth it covers. Of course I'd love to have full control of the goings on here, but I can't except that much. But we will be putting up signs with some instructions to make sure that our efforts will be as effective as possible."

Some men from her hired crew were tasked with setting up the large tent of meeting and planning and carried furniture in for a drawing board, and chairs and ink and quills and food and water to last the day. This was a big task, and it would take time. Better to set up base camp.

Some of the other laborers started shoveling soil and mulch onto the ground where the village used to be. Eventually, they would work outwards. A third group started taking soil samples from around the area and storing them in small pouches.

As soon as a table was set up, Seharan took out a large sheet of parchment and started drawing a map of the area, marking the village, the shore, and planned tree locations, drawing in even individual bushes and flowers and herbs. She studied the sunlight, making sure to plan that the plants would get sunlight, and shade and the right kinds of soil, and be as close or far away from the water as they needed to be.

"We will start planting trees, and any plant that does well for the season. Plants like mugwort, chervil, henbane, fennel, nettles, garlic, carrots, beans, St. John's Wort, Juniper, Angelica, things like that. Anything biennial or perennial. Plant anything with brambles around the trees to protect them,"
she told herself, while checking off a list of plants.

Naer’eanque visited the small patch of already growing plants. Results of previous efforts.
Maybe, it looked like a little garden in the desert. She poured fresh water from two large waterskins over the plant and soil. The water was taken before, from the clear pools right outside of the sacred grove of Eldath in the north of the Reaching Woods.

After she spent some more moments there, she moved towards Derik and Seharan.
She joined them and the laborers for hearing about the plans, and saw how she could help. It looked like she would be already familiar with dome parts of Seharans words, but she followed the instructions attentivly.

The elf wasn't too delicate for offering her hands for helping with the clearing of the rubble for a time, and she was no stranger to using a shovel or a rake. Even if the group of laborer was likely stronger and more enduring in their work.

Derik is a soldier, not a farmer.

He does not argue with the druids and Chaunteans and the like that say "this plant should be here" or "more dirt and mulch in that spot." He simply moves the debris, puts the dirt down, and plants the plants.

Every so often in the days of this process he will check on the various outlying farms to see if they too need help or just the town proper and bring back that information, as well as let the cleaners and planters know where people will likely rebuild their houses.
