Cavestalker progression for Spirit Shaman

Cavestalker has nothing to do with Spirit Shamans. We might as well open all classes for everything

Technically it has nothing to do with druids and rangers either. Or rather, it's not supposed to progress their spellcasting or animal companions, only allow use of natural abilities underground. I don't know why BG gave it spellcasting.

It was implemented for those 2 classes. If Spirit Shamans need a High BAB PRC, with spellcasting progression and access to tumble, create a new prc that complements the shaman's abilities

Base Attack Bonus: +2
Skills: Knowledge (dungeoneering) 4 ranks , Survival 8 ranks
Feats: Track
Special: The candidate must have natural darkvision to allow successful navigation of Underdark tunnels.

If you look at the PnP reqs, and what PnP Cavestalker grants, any Base Class that meets the reqs should be able to take Cavestalker for the Underdark Feat benefits.

But as Rhifox points out, the BGTSCC implementation granted additionally:

- Spells per Day/Spells Known: Full caster progression only for rangers or druids (please re-log after gaining Cavestalker PrC, for progression to apply).
- Other progression:
Full Animal companion progression
Increase wildshape uses (but change the dragon shape feat to require 27 levels of Druid)

Why? So why not Spirit Shaman then, since it uses the same Spellbook as Druid?

Lets open it for clerics with animal or plant domain as well. Divine spell book, they have animal companion etc etc

Anyway there is no mechanical issue with opening it for shamans. However, it is better if a PRC for shamans is created with similar attributes but focuses on SS abilities, rather than just opening a PRC that for better of worse, was meant to be only for rangers and druids.

In principle, I agree with the idea of a PrC that supports Spirit Shaman "spirit" feats specifically working or improving in the Underdark.

However...it has taken 3 years for this request to be considered—THREE YEARS!!—and with that as the going rate or standard to work with, having a PrC built is probably decades away from seeing the light of day...or this case, the dark of (underground) night.

Personally I’d like to see these two classes get a bump fix since as Steve said a prc is a decade out or more.

Lets bump this, anything that makes Spirit Shaman more viable is good in my books. I see no good reason not to allow it.

Some years ago (!!!) it was suggested that Cavestalker could progress Telthor Companion, since it progresses Animal Companion for Ranger.

Guys, you know, it's always easier and faster to make decision (and implement if it's positive) when along with general "that'd be better", you give an analyzed balanced description of ready PrC for spirit shaman that would give what you try to achieve with cavestalker.
Just like wiki description of any PrC on wki. If you make similar one for that possible SS PrC, that can boost things a lot. In fact, coming up with idea, making it viable and not under/overpowered is the hardest part in most cases. As you can see, Devs do and can add PrCs into game, after all.

I'm all for Spirit Shamans going Cavestalker. They'll loose some stuff, they'll gain some stuff. More options is good. It makes sense in lore as far as I'm concerned.

I would like to see the Spirit Shaman qualify for the Cavestalker PRC and get full spell and telthor progression. Is this being considered?

I got news. After quite a time of discussion, asking DMs and a bit of arguing inside staff, the decision was made.
No, i'm not writing this to ruin your hopes, i write it to say yes, you will see Cavestalker available for Spirit Shaman in next update. Thanks for keeping this for so long, it will see the light of a day with next update!
