The Mountain
"The End Justifies the Means..."

"Those without purpose... Those without destiny live weak lives without meaning. They live and they die; it is as simple as that."
Full Name: Unknown
Birthdate: Unknown
Birthplace: Unknown

Appearance:
Race: Earth Genasi
Age: 27
Height: 6'7"
Weight: 275lbs
Eyes: Black, Like Obsidian
Hair: Short, Black, Matted, Shimmering.
Ears: Squared.
Skin: Tough, Rigid like rock at his knuckles, elbows, knees, and the back of his neck.
Posture: Tall and Imposing.
Hygiene: Typically Filthy. Usually covered in dirt from days of Wandering/Adventuring.
Scent: Rather repugnant. Typically smells like blood, sweat, leather, and metal.

Physical Description:
Before you stands an atypical Earth Genasi, resembling more of a stone colossus than anything. Standing well above 6' tall, Kayne's hulking, muscular figure displays the strength in his bulging muscles, making him appear bulky and clumsy. Chiseled features cast in a tanned stone-like complexion with unnatural shadows abound his tight squared ears, sharp cheek-bones, and straight jaw, lend to quite an opposing appearance. Gemstone-like, deep obsidian eyes regard his surroundings with a dark, cynical, yet keen observation. Should the cowl of his cloak fall from his head, thick matted black hair would sparkle in the light as if it were made from fine strands of onyx. His hulking figure coupled with the rocky complexion and numerous scars covering his body lend to quite an unattractive visage, yet adds a frightening aspect to his persona. The dark metals of his armor matching the coldness in his eyes, complimenting the straight face and intimidating character, envelop Kayne in a darkened presence. His two most striking features are exquisite tattoos of runic bands wrapping around his wrists, and the massive sword strapped to his back.

Unique Visible Items:
Long Black Cowled Cloak: A long, flowing cloak of midnight is clasped to the pauldrons of Kayne's armor and falls heavily from the towering warrior. The cowl is almost perpetually pulled over the Earth Genasi's head, obscuring a good portion of the rugged man's rough features in shadow.
Panzerhand Gauntlet: Kayne's left arm is covered in a massive, heavy, thick gauntlet that he utilizes as a shield to ward off blows. The swordsman also uses the weight of the panzerhand to his advantage by pummeling his opponents when his sword or sword-arm are compromised.
Bloodbane: The warrior nicknamed "The Mountain" always has an over-sized sword either strapped to his back or wielded. The hilt of the evil troll-forged blade he wields can always be seen protruding through the cloak, coming up between his shoulder blades and extend out past his left shoulder.

Personality Profile:
General Health: Tall, Muscular, Sturdy
Accent: Deep tone with a hint of Tethyrian
Philosophy: "The end justifies the means..."
Deity: Torm (His personal code and weapon of choice match the Loyal Fury's)
Initial Alignment: Chaotic Good.
Profession: Wanderer, Adventurer, Mercenary
Base Class & Proposed Development: Frenzied Swordsman (Fighter/Frenzied Berserker)
Languages: Common, Tethyrian, Abyssal, & Terran.
Strengths: Loyalty, Integrity, Physical Strength
Weaknesses: Loyalty, Stubborn, Cynical, Suspicious.
RP Tools: Feigned Indifference, Sense of Honor, Loyalty, Blunt Truth, a Massive Sword, his Panzerhand (Heavily Gauntleted Left Arm), Size, Brute Strength.

Habits/Hobbies:
Kayne's habits are those of your typical wanderer or mercenary. The swordsman is nearly always clad in his armor and habitually makes sure his weapons are always sharpened and battle ready. He enjoys a good swill of dark ale now and then, but usually keeps to himself away from the crowds inhabiting an inn or pub. He will gravitate towards other silent warriors, as there is always an unspoken code of honor and understanding amongst others of his kind.

Description:
Kayne is your typical wanderer, keeping to himself and not prying into the business of others. When he makes a friend or has mutual respect for another warrior, he can be the most loyal of companions. However, he is mostly callous at times and uncaring if he sees no purpose or need in something that he deems trivial. He often has a dark temper and a foul mouth, and comes across as abrasive, even if he means well with his words. He has very strong morals, and lives by his own personal code of honor, much like a knight would, however he serves no one side over the other. He is deemed a neutral defender, taking side with whom he feels in his heart is righteous. He fights against injustice and oppression and loves the peace of solitude and seclusion. He has a very long temper, but when he is angered he can erupt like a volcano. Although he has inhuman strength and undeniable prowess, he will never display his abilities for mere entertainment, such as a friendly duel or a tournament. The Earth Genasi hides his emotions well and masks a past filled with pain and heartache, using fighting as a way to sate his inner torment.

Goals:
Become stronger, both physically and in prowess
Leave a legacy behind with his nickname "The Mountain."
Serve as an arm for those without means to defend themselves.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas:
Kayne understands Abyssal & Terran, however he does not know how he learned them.
Kayne has always had a pair of runic bands around his wrists, but he does not know where they came from.
Kayne is an Earth Genasi, but does not know the origin of his ancestry, only his deceased mother and step-father.

Misc Facts:
He greatly dislikes getting wet.
Kayne masks his sense of honor with contempt and outward indifference to the general population.
His use of foul language and lack of courteous demeanor is his way of distancing himself from everyone else.

Kayne's Biography

Unread post by Kayne »

Biography:

Kayne was born into a small mercenary camp, not having a true birthplace or hometown. His "father" was the acting commander named Maxus, his mother a skilled warrior and a gypsy named Lilia. His mother was sick all during her pregnancy, and died abruptly before going into labor, yet somehow Kayne was born from the dead womb. The mercenaries in camp referred to him as the miracle child, however his father rejected him and refused him as his own, referring to him as cursed, thus naming him Kayne, and held him responsible for his mother's death. As Kayne grew he developed blunt features and a sort of stone-like complexion, his skin appearing rough and dry. Because of his deformities, he was the object of abuse throughout the camp and blamed for many of the other mercenaries' mistakes and punished for mostly anything done wrong. At a very young age, he learned to take quite a beating, whether it be verbally or physically. He trained with a longsword at a young age, as his father told him there were no toys for children to play with in his camp. As Kayne grew and learned swordplay, he found he favored the larger swords as he trained with one much too long for someone his size, and had the blade improved by Zinadan, his only friend and the blacksmith of the camp. As Kayne grew, he had the blade forged larger and larger to accommodate his own growth. Many who come across him notice the enormous sheath and hilt protruding through the cloak on his back before anything else, aside from his hulking muscular figure. He fought in several large battles and conflicts and performed many jobs as a mercenary, however his father claimed all his gold, to repay the "debt" of his mother's death.

Upon one of his jobs, he was to protect a nobleman's daughter while he went out to hunt with the king in his game-lands. The daughter's name was Ariannah, and the two became taken with one another rather quickly. She was the innocent and naive princess in the arms of a young lustful brute. Many a night they shared a bed, and many a day they walked the flowerbeds together holding each other's hands. Following his duty, Ariannah's father learned of their courtship, threatening his life should he spy him on his land again or near his daughter. Of course Kayne with his burning desire and young blood snuck into her bed while he was camped near their land. However, one night, Kayne and the young girl were caught. Ariannah's father vowed to take his life, a longsword held out, daring Kayne to fight him. The noble slashed at him and stabbed, but when Kayne evaded the blows, Ariannah ran to his defense and was impaled with her father's blade. Caught with surprise and overwhelmed with grief, Kayne fell to his knees, holding the dying girl in his arms. The nobleman, Ariannah's father, also fell to his knees in despair. Following her passing, Kayne rose to his feet and made sure her father would pay for taking the only thing that had ever showed loved for him. The nobleman was found dead with his appendages severed from his body, and his torso torn to pieces, as if some terrifying beast ripped the man to shreds. His daughter lain peacefully on the bed with her arms folded across her chest, her eyes closed.

One day in the camp, his father approached him about the young girl her father's demise, but not before he had a bit too much to drink. He had the look he always had when he was about to get violent, however Kayne was a lot larger and ready for him. In an effort of self defense, Kayne struck his father, who stumbled back from the blow and fell on his own blade. Knowing he had no choice but to run, Kayne fled the camp and rode for days, surviving in isolation, taking what he needed from the land and making money when he needed to as a mercenary. Kayne traveled from city to city working as a sellsword and performed many deeds, earning himself a reputation as the "Mountain." His wandering now brings him to Baldur's Gate where the rest of his story shall be written...
