"No Helmet" Helmet model

Unread post by Shadowcryer »

Greetings. I think, that I am not the only one, who wishes to see an invisible helmet model on server.
Such thing works pretty good with cloaks, and I would like to make a request to add an invisible helmet model to server. It is pretty simple request, and I hope that it will help with RP issues, without much affecting the balance.

Hello,

I voted no for the simple reason that having an invisible helmet to keep it's powers is kind of "gamey" and I don't know if I could even say "powergame."

Yet I can't put some invisibility enchantment on item (which is allowed by PhB), or I can not craft a helmet with look I want (no model aviable), so it is a double edge.

We have invisible cloaks, don't see why we can't have an invisible helmet. It's been a request for years... :)

"Cloak" represents "Back" slot. It can be everything: a backpack, cape, special pauldrons or something beneath the armor.
So why "Helmet" can't just represent "Head" slot, including helmets, brooches and tattooes? The last two too hard to add as models, so it easily qualifies for invisible helmets.

AFAIK, an "invisible" head-slot item will result in bald-headed PC. This is because the SOP models for helmets (and hair/wigs) replace the baseline hair on the PC's head.

Cloaks are different since they are attached onto the PC's armor. The do not replace anything.

FWIW, an invisible cloak is IMHO a bit cheesy.

There is a way to render characters without their helmet on, in the engine. For cutscenes.

After we update, and presuming its okay, it would be possible to add that to the player options dialogue-menu.

I still think it's gamey to make an item invisible to retain it's power. I have always removed my cloak if I am not wearing one or doesn't want it to appear and also done through roleplay. At this extreme, we could have invisble armor, shield, sword because why not? Cloak can be invisible in the changer...

But hey it's just my opinion.

I think it is easier to leave things alone. There are numerous headband items in the AppChanger. Those can carry enchantments just as much as a full-face helm (silly magic!) without being particularly obvious.

Shadowcryer, just go to the barbershop in BG and buy a hairstyle you like. Then ask a DM to xfer the stats to it and let them keep the old helmet. This will default to the DM/DM teams decision.

Someone could want to have a shawl instead of a cloak... but the models do not allow it, for example. Then there is also the fact that cloaks clip terribly with some armors. Not to mention the 'dracula' effect when sat down or certain poses.

I find that many of the helmets, even the headbands, are not 'ideal'. They obstruct from the hairstyle. The more recently added hairs have not been set to 'long' or whatever their tag is, so when wearing a hat for example, you get the short hair displayed underneath (which I find quite annoying). The newer hairs also are not available as wigs, even in the Toolset.

It is not a big deal for me but if there were invisible helmets, you bet I would use them  I can RP a hairpin having the enchantment.

One can make a custom appearance haircut with magical properties in the toolset, as a helmet item. Then send it to DM Ditto or whomever is doing that now and they can bring it in. I did that to a few individuals before.

There is only a limited selection? Not all hairs, such as the newer ones, are available. Unless I am missing a step on how to enable those!
