Animal Language DM Ruling Request

I'd like to request a DM ruling to be added to the DM ruling thread on "Animal".

Is it a substitute for animal empathy, like it is if we go by lore? If this is the case, a ruling should be made that a person is limited to basic vocilizations, like "hungry", "sleepy", "eat", "sit", "anger", "tired", "lonely", "sad", etc. Things an animal (and other creatures capable of such) would be able to comprehend and communicate.

Is it a langauge of its own, that animals speak? If this is the case, then it would become BG-specific lore, and people could (continue) to use animal empathy to form complex phrases, statments, and questions.

I'd really like to know, so I know what is acceptable to do in BG's lore. I'd prefer if it was animal empathy, but I am willing to see it as a language if that is what is ruled. I just need to know what is acceptable for RP with it.

I would suggest you send in a PM to the DM team as a whole instead It will hopefully make it as a 'player request' where it is then discussed. Not all DMs look at this area of the forums.
